razorpig Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Hi, I reached out to the FontBase team recently to ask if they had auto-activation for Affinity apps on their road map. Apparently they have contacted you guys several times about this but they haven't had a reply. FontBase and Affinity are such great pieces of software, it would be amazing if they could talk to each other. Hope something can be done. If more users can get behind this maybe it will happen. Guest Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 FWIW auto-activation using Typeface (check 'Auto Activation for other apps' in Typeface's preferences) with Affinity apps works really well. Quote
razorpig Posted April 1, 2021 Author Posted April 1, 2021 @Bryan Rieger Thanks Bryan. I appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately it looks like macOS only. Quote
RNKLN Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Typeface indeed is Mac only. Typeface does have the ability to auto-activate fonts in Affinity products. I don't know if Serif has done anything particular to make that possible, so I'm wondering if your request should go to Serif or to the developer of FontBase? razorpig 1 Quote Affinity Photo - Affinity Designer - Affinity Publisher | macOS Sequoia (15.4) on 16GB MBP14 2021 with 2.6.x versions
myclay Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 An alternative for font handling on windows would be eagle.cool, it installs fonts into the system folder which then instantly gets recognized in all Affinity programs, removal/deactivation works too. razorpig 1 Quote Sketchbook (with Affinity Suite usage) | timurariman.com | artstation store Windows 11 Pro - 24H2 | Ryzen 5800X3D | RTX 3090 - 24GB | 128GB | Main SSD with 1TB | SSD 4TB | PCIe SSD 256GB (configured as Scratch disk) |
razorpig Posted April 6, 2021 Author Posted April 6, 2021 @RNKLN Yes I did reach out to FontBase initially. They've tried to contact Serif several times but haven't had a reply. They suggested if a few Affinity users put in the request, maybe it would get things moving. This was my motivation for posting - let's see what happens. Personally I'm not very hopeful ! @myclay Thanks for the suggestion ! I'll definitely check that out. Quote
RNKLN Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Shame that the developers didn't respond, although I haven't heard their side of the story, of course. Anyway, this is the preference setting in Typeface for Mac. Nothing specifically done for Affinity, it seems, just for Adobe. Therefore, I'm still wondering if any action is needed on the side of Serif. It could be a Mac related thing, e.g. that any app which wants to do it can somehow activate a font with little effort. tarknz Posted April 29, 2021 Posted April 29, 2021 Razorpig - I had exactly the same sort of reply from Fontbase two days ago. Affinity either doesn't seem to read their emails or have the courtesy to reply to the makers of a very good font management app. Quote
IronStrikesIron Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 I was just coming here to ask about this very thing. I don't know know what the issue is in the delay getting back to Fontbase. Sure would be nice to use both products together seamlessly. Quote
SheldonIkin Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 Yep I want the same thing. life would be soo much better with both of these apps working together Quote
ASAP Posted December 27, 2023 Posted December 27, 2023 I'm requesting this functionality in 2023! And soon...it will be 2024 in 5 days! Come on now! I've been using font base and affinity for years... please make it easier for us, Affinity! Quote
