Mark Teague
Typing Framed Text on Shape. I am running Affinity Photo for Mac 1.9.1 and am having problems typing Framed Text onto a Shape such as a rectangle. I create the shape, choose a fill color then grab the Framed Text tool. When I move the tool to the shape and left click to type, the fill color disappears. Has anyone else had this problem?
firstdefence
What you are doing is converting the shape into a text frame, that is why the shape loses some of it’s shape properties. dmstraker 1 Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.4.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... Was just about to reply the same thing 🙂 @Mark Teague, welcome to the forum. If you own Affinity Publisher you can switch to that ('File > Edit in Publisher...'). There you will find under 'View > Studio > Text Frame' an extra palette where you can set fill and stroke of the text frame. This is an APub exclusive feature. d. walt.farrell
And if you do not own Publisher, you need to duplicate the shape and Fill it as you want, then convert one of the shapes to a text frame. The one you convert will use its Fill and Stroke, but the other one will still have them. carl123
Or just create the text frame outside the Rectangle and then drag it into position on top the Rectangle (resizing it as required) Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. Mark Teague
Typing directly onto a shape should be possible in AP 1.9. See the video:

But what is not possible is keeping the stroke and fill of the shape. If you want to keep the stroke and fill you need to use one of the methods we've mentioned. One would need to ask @dmstraker about that since what he shows is not the way that Photo works. On the other hand, in the comments on that YouTube video he mentions using Photo 1.7 Beta on Windows for that one. Perhaps there was a bug at that time and it failed to replace the Stroke and Fill. Disclaimer 1: The video was done a while ago. I don't have previous versions of APh so tricky to check. Disclaimer 2: I'm more of a photo guy so make little use of text (so claim limited expertise here). Disclaimer 3: My brain hurts! (any brain surgeons out there?) Otherwise I get both the original question and the explanation. It is a bit of a confuser if you don't know what's happening.
