Magicsophicorn
Hello, I have Affinity Designer on my laptop which was bought for me by my employer. I have now left that job but want to keep Affinity Designer for personal use, so I have just purchased myself a new license key. However I cannot figure out how to change the licence key stored in the product? I have tried uninstalling and re-installing designer but it seems to have remembered the old key and didn't ask me for a key at the end of the re-install. What should I do? Thank you. Staff DWright Posted March 21, 2020 Staff Share Posted March 21, 2020 Hi @Magicsophicorn, Welcome to the forum If you delete the licence.xml file from the following location then the next time you start Designer you will be asked to enter your Email address and product key Mac /Users/<username>/Library/Group Containers/6LVTQB9699.com.seriflabs/ Windows C:\Program Files\Affinity\Affinity Designer\
AffiniTea
On a Windows 10 machine, the licence.xml file is located here (for each module): Affinity Photo: C:\ProgramData\Affinity\Photo\1.0\licence.xml Affinity Publisher: C:\ProgramData\Affinity\Publisher\1.0\licence.xml Affinity Designer: C:\ProgramData\Affinity\Designer\1.0\licence.xml Notes: You can either delete that file or edit it If you chose to edit the file and replace the old key/email with the new key/email, don’t forget to remove the hyphen (or dash) in the registration key that you copied from the Affinity Store If you deleted the file, the next time you run the software, it will ask you to enter your email and the reg. key If you edited the file, the next time you run the software, it will not ask your for anything. It will recognize the license and everything will work as normal Edited March 21, 2020 by Affinish
Magicsophicorn
Hi @DWright Thanks for replying. I have the Windows version but I cannot find the licence.xml file at all in the Affinity folders in Program Files. Is there anything else I can try? Thanks. MentalJelly
It is likely that your ProgramData folder is still "marked" as a hidden resource within Windows Explorer's properties. Click to see hidden folders and file types and you should then be able to see it within the Windows Explorer window for your PC. You could also access the folder/file via a command prompt. Magicsophicorn
Aha! That was it, the folder was hidden. Thank you so much everyone, I have now successfully managed to update the license key.

wonderings
Can't you simply uninstall and install from scratch? **edit** Sorry just saw you had tried that already. There is an app for Mac called "AppCleaner" that pulls and deletes all files associated with the application. Maybe there is something similar for Windows? Did you find the licence XML file in your ProgramData folder? And if so, did you get an error sound or message when you tried to delete it? If an error message, what was the exact wording? emmrecs01
@mak1631 Your images show you have somehow opened your Program Data folder in a web browser, rather than in a Windows Explorer window. Assuming you are running Win 10, if you're not sure how to access Windows Explorer, go to the search box (most commonly a magnifying glass icon, bottom left hand corner of your desktop), click on the icon and in the search box type This PC. Click on the entry that says "This PC App". That will open the Windows Explorer display of all your hard drives. Double-click on the C:\ drive to open a window showing its contents and go to Program Data and then to the exact location you were previously shown for your licence file. Now, the right-click option to delete should be available. If you do not see the Program Data folder, check the View tab (at the top of that Explorer screen and make sure that "Hidden Items" (towards the right hand end of the ribbon at the top) is ticked.
