PeterB. Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Hi, as mentioned here I have a publisher document where multiple paragraph styles can be applied to text. is this an expected behavior? to me it seems that there is something "stuck"... Quote
Staff Pauls Posted February 5, 2020 Staff Posted February 5, 2020 Just had a read through that thread. Can you upload the file here please Quote
PeterB. Posted February 5, 2020 Author Posted February 5, 2020 the original document with links and fonts or just the clean test document? Quote
Staff Pauls Posted February 5, 2020 Staff Posted February 5, 2020 I'll take both if you dont mind Quote
PeterB. Posted February 5, 2020 Author Posted February 5, 2020 ok I uploaded the files – are they kept private as this is costumer related data? what I recently found out while trying to recover the document: if I select the text frame and click multiple times on revert defaults (5-15x) then select the complete text and apply [no style] paragraph and text to it and again select the text frame und multiple click on revert it seems that styles are mostly working as normal again for that one text frame. but I don't know if this is a good solution... Staff Pauls Posted February 5, 2020 Staff Posted February 5, 2020 From what I can see in the test file it looks like the characters have the 'normal' paragraph style applied as character formatting. You can see it in the text style description. If you select the "Detach Characters from.." option the text style burger menu it then behaves as you would expect. As to why it thinks that style has been applied as character formatting I do not know at this point. Quote

It may be due to the confusing nature of the "Apply to paragraphs and clear character styles" option. Rather than clear character styles, as it claims, it actually applies a style as both a paragraph style and a character style. Later, if you apply a different paragraph style, you are left with the new paragraph style and the previous paragraph style still applied a character style. I know I use that command often in InDesign but categorically avoid it in Publisher because of this odd behavior. MikeW 1 Quote
MikeW Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Yes, text style behavior is...odd...in APub. Quote
Staff Pauls Posted February 5, 2020 Staff Posted February 5, 2020 The "Apply to paragraphs and clear character styles" bug has been fixed in the beta. garrettm30 1 Quote
PeterB. Posted February 5, 2020 Author Posted February 5, 2020 I tried it in the latest beta but the behavior on my mac is the same... so should I not use character styles? Quote
