How to apply double shadows

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm a bit confused about applying shadows. I wanted to apply a double shadow to a single object to achieve the effect as in the image attached (Using Sketch). It doesn't seem that it's possible to add two shadows to a single object so I duplicated the object, changed the shadow color and "angle" but still I did not get the desired result.
How can achieve that?

In your sample is one Outer Shadow and one Outer Glow, which fx can set.

In Adobe Photoshop CC you can add as many drop shadows as you like, this gives you a massive range of effects that can be achieved not to mention all the other fx that can be duplicated.

In Affinity Photo you can only add one outer shadow per object.

Add your first shadow as normal

Then group the object (it will be the only object in the group)

You can now apply a second shadow to the group.

If you need a third shadow just group the group again and apply a shadow to that group

etc etc etc

That’s a really great tip carl123, thanks for sharing that.
My attached image shows an example using that tip to have two drop shadows. (Note: The white one needs a different Blend Mode – to the default Multiply – to be seen using the colours I used).

Thanks, this method gave me a close result to what I wanted, but still not flexible enough.

I tried this method but still wasn't what I originally wanted, would you please ( if it's not much of a bother ) share the shadow values you used?

Why didn't Affinity just use the common method of applying shadows with x,y and blur?

Well the OP probably means a feature like this, where you can also apply effects multiple times (not only stroke/fill) ...

... pretty much the same as firstdefence showed above in PS, but here from vector tools (shown image is from Graphic, though Amadine offers these things too).
