  1. In Affinity Photo, if I move the pixel, its edge will become smoothed out. (I always draw with brush with 85% hardness above) Regardless it is select all pixel in a layer then move; or select a portion of a layer with selection tool then move, the hardness of the pixel become very soft. Is this a feature? Or simply the pixel too low? lol
  2. Hi Support Sorry for the large video file - I haven't figured how to reduce it yet. Can you check the video to see what the problem is. Affinity Designer 2020-09-17 15-41-48.mp4 The problem I'm having is that layers go missing mysteriously if I embed a pixel layer. I was doing it fine when I started (you'll notice that there is no problem with the ships body that has a pixel layer embedded in the vector layer) on the file but this seemed to happen as I progressed. I don't remember having this problem before. Is this a known issue with the update? - I tried looking but the closest I saw was the application crashing when users started to use layers (which is not a problem I have).
  3. Hello, new user here. I'm very happy with the purchase, but there's a little thing I'd like to ask in order to be able to ditch exporting to Photoshop completely. I intend to use AD mostly to generate 2D artwork in multiple resolutions*, and it's really important to control the amount of antialiasing. Without that, there's always a lengthy "pixel cleanup" stage that follows the creation of any asset. While being able to fine tune the antialias intensity would be amazing, I'd be happy with a simple "turn off antialiasing" option for both the pixel preview and the "rasterise"option. I originally thought that's what the "View quality" option in the preferences would do, but it seems to have no effect in the image. Bug, maybe? Thanks! * These are intended to be used in "pixel perfect" graphics (no scaling and no fractional coordinates, thus no filtering and maximum sharpness).
  4. Is there a way to change the default measurements in A.Photo to inches from pixels? Inches Decimal would be even better! Thanks, Ken
  5. Hi, I am working on a pixel art design, and need to use a pixel grid (just a grid with 1px), but de grid is not working under 4px size. It is normal? I am making anything wrong? Thanks in advance RPReplay_Final1586418326.mov
  6. Hey, I've worked on a vector + pixel job and want to iterate several times on the pixel part. I would like to delete / reset all pixel layers as a bulk operation. Right now I have to select them one by one, it's tedious. Is there a way to bulk select all layers of a certain type? In this case, select all pixel layers?
  7. Designer on iPad, recently updated: when I want to DUPLICATE a BRUSH from a list, the message "new brush added" appears, but no brush appears at the bottom of the list. In Affinity Photo duplication occurs, but in Designer NO
  8. I've probably read all the posts on the forums about this topic. Even the ones from almost 3 year ago. Yet the issue still remains. Is there a way to snap objects together without having a gap between the objects? I have tried the force pixel alignment and move by whole pixels. I also find that this does not only happen when snapping shapes to shapes, but also having a shape on top of another shape. It is also visible when a shape is on the side of the art board and exported to PDF format. I also tested this in Adobe Illustrator CS6, which is old, and I don't see this issue when putting shapes next to each other and exporting the file to other formats(jpg, png). The strange part is, while writing this post, I tested it in two documents. In the one I see the gaps and then in another the gap between the two shapes are gone. Please see the documents attached with examples. snapping_test.afdesign shows the gaps and snapping_test_successful.afdesign exports correctly without showing any gaps in the exported file, only in Designer itself. Please explain this, or I would really appreciate if this can be fixed or improved with an update. snapping_test_successful.afdesign snapping_test.afdesign
  9. I've been experiencing significant amount of initial brush lag/latency in 1.8, whether using a tablet or mouse - I'm using an iMac (HD, not retina, for what it's worth). I've seen this mentioned in the Windows specific section, but thought I'd bring it to the Mac section too as it seems to be an issue across the board. I addition to that (possibly related) I've also experienced weird thin tapers at the beginning of my strokes when using my drawing tablet (XP-Pen Artist 22R Pro), even if I press really hard with my tablet pen from the moment I put the pen down - the unwanted tapered beginnings are a lot more noticeable when drawing fast. I've mentioned this before, but it hasn't been addressed yet, and figured I'd being it up here. Here's a screen recording to show the lag and tapers for a better look - I also tested in Photoshop for comparison, but there are no issues there. I've kept the 'click-indicator' on in the recording so that you can see where the stroke starts: Affinity 1.8 Brush Issues (Lag and Unwanted Tapers): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GJ52So6GUU In both cases it seems as if the software takes a second to read and interpret my tablet pen input, even after I've already started drawing. I've looked into it extensively and done a bunch of testing, thinking it could just be my tablet or tablet driver, but it's not the case as it works perfectly in all other software.
  10. So far I've figured out this: In order to make pixel art (which would look something like this), I use Pixel Persona mode then create a square brush and then click on the Pixel Tool. Yes, I've turned on the grid and snapping, but I can't seem to draw the way I would want a pixel brush to draw. It's a bit hard for me to describe but I want the brush to move less like a painting brush and more like its snapping to the grid. This free drawing program is the best example I could find (just click New Drawing and test it out for yourself) of the way the brush moves which makes it so much easier to make pixel art. I also attached a video that might help understand what I mean. I know I could just make a square in vector mode and create pixel art square by square but that sounds tedious. If this sort of thing can't be achieved in Affinity Designer, that's all right I just want to know if its possible. Thank you. Screen_Recording_2020-04-25_at_11_47.28_AM.mov
  11. Created a design (all vector), but now I'm told it needs to be exported to PNG file format. I know now that vector and PNG don't really go together. Searching for best way to get my design exported to PNG while maintaing image quality.
  12. So I want to make pixel art and I see the pixel persona being used for that but I don't want it to be raster I'd like to export my pixel art as an SVG (with no raster) so I was wondering if that was possible with something made in pixel persona. If not is there some sort of pixel tool for the normal designer persona? All I saw there was the rectangle tool and that'd be a pain to use for pixel art.
  13. If you read this solution: https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/a/79248 And watch this video: You'll see how effect this method is for converting Raster Pixel Art to Vector Pixel Art and I think it would be an amazing tool for Affinity Designer to have!
  14. Hi all, On Affinity designer for Ipad, how would you merge two pixel layers: I started a drawing. I accidentally finished the drawing in a different pixel layer. Now I still want the drawing all in one layer. I've been looking everywhere, and I can't find something where I can merge down one layer into the other. Actually, I think this has been asked before, but they mention a 'Rasterize' action that I can't find (and also, I'm reluctant to rasterize a pixel layer)
  15. Hi, I love Affinity Photo. There's only one feature that keeps me from switching completely and opening Photoshop anymore. I'm doing lots of Pixel Art for Games and in Photoshop, you can set the pixel aspect ratio to be other than square. Here you can see that a pixel is actually 2:1, 2 pixels wide and 1 pixel tall. This is the standard multicolor mode for many old computers like the C64, Plus/4 etc. It would be fantastic to have this on your feature list. I can't stand using Photoshop anymore. Help me. Cheers, Esshahn
  16. Hi, this is probably known issue, but it still apears in AfPub. When entering the isolation mode of some pixel mask in a document with multiple pages, the mask preview is showing all the time on the first page only.
  17. This past weekend I met up with some working professional freelance illustrators and concept artists (five of them to be exact, and myself) for a coffee drink-and-draw at a local coffee shop. Affinity came up as a topic, and we had a good, long chat about it - I suppose like a mini focus group. I figured that if 6 illustrators had a unanimous opinion about something, then it's probably true for many others. The general consensus was that Affinity apps for iPad are essential tools, and by far the best range of robust tools for industry work on the iPad (aside from the obvious, Procreate). With desktop, while the response was mostly positive, and while most agreed that it is technically possible to replace their current software with Affinity, the biggest issue was the brush tool. All the illustrators I spoke to work with dedicated drawing tablets on their desktop (among them was the Huion Kamvas, XP-Pen display tablets, and Wacom Cintiq and Intuos tablets), and digitally draw/paint their work in either Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint. Everyone said that, while the pixel brushes themselves looked nice and that they liked the customisable features in the brushes panel, they 'felt' a bit clunky to draw with (for lack of a better word), and lack the same 'buttery' fluidity, perfect precision, and perfect pressure sensitivity of some of Affinity's competitors. I think 'felt' is a really important word here. The brushes can often 'feel' a bit stiff and inaccurate to the tablet input at times, especially when doing work that requires a great deal of precise brush work, which results in the experience feeling just a bit off. The final illustration work may look fine when it's finished, but the drawing/painting experience is not quite there (i.e. there's a lot more cmd+z involved than should be necessary), which can hinder workflow, efficiency, and can be a bit frustrating at times. As a dedicated user of Affinity software (almost exclusively for over a year now), I felt it was important to mention this in the forums, as I have the same concern. I've mentioned tablet input inaccuracy in a few posts, and I'm really hoping that it gets addressed or looked into soon. Sadly, I've heard time and time again that this is a deal breaker for a lot of illustrators and digital artists looking to use the software, not for vector art or photo editing, but for pixel-based digital painting, professional comics, and precise and/or detailed linework. Fixing the tablet input accuracy issues could open a lot of doors for Affinity, and for potential users that are getting more and more frustrated with monthly subscriptions, but feel tied down out of necessity. A very large portion of Photoshop's user base is made up of digital artists, and I definitely think Affinity Photo has a huge potential to make an impact in that field too. I'm sure there's (hopefully) a fairly easy fix for this, as Photoshop, Sketchbook Pro, Clip Studio Paint, Krita, and so many others have already managed to get their brushes to feel near perfect for drawing and painting. Sorry for the long winded post, but I guess this is more like my pitch to get this issue smoothed out for a better user experience.
  18. Instant crash upon clicking with eraser tool. Repeated many times. Problem persists in New Document and after Restarts. 1.8
  19. Hi! Drawing using symmetry and mirroring works fine, there's a tiny bit of slow down sometimes, but nothing too serious. But drawing using only symmetry is a lot slower, to the point is almost unusable. I find it odd since I'd presume both functions would work the same. See the attached video for a visual sample of the issue. Happens on an iPad Pro 9.7" (2016) with the latest iPadOS (13.3.1) and latest Affinity Designer (1.7.3). Thanks! RPReplay_Final1580374739.mp4
  20. Every single brush in Pixel Persona is too pixelated, with jagged edges. I do not want to use the Vector Brush, as I like the feel and workflow of the Pixel mode. I’m hoping to replace Procreate with this app, but these jagged brushes are not awesome. I’ve attached screenshots of the document at 100% and at Fit. I’m using an iPad, with latest software update. Anyone else experienced this?
  21. Can I draw rounded rectangle on ipad and scale it with fixed corner radius? I cannot find even corner radius input box like desktop version. Please help me, thanks.
  22. Hey all. I'm currently trying out Affinity on the trial and first impressions are fantastic. There's a lot I really like but unfortunately I digital paint more than anything else and I'm finding the program borderline unusable on that front. I'm sure there's some options somewhere that I haven't found that can help so any advice would be hugely greatful. 1. The biggest problem I'm having is to do with the layers. When I click a new layer and start painting it'll work fine for a while but for no reason as far as I can tell, the paint will just stop showing on the page. When I select the layer and try to paint, the assistant tells me it's added a new raster layer but still nothing. I've tried using my mouse button to check it's not my tablet but nothing. It just adds another pixel layer underneath the main layer every time I click on it. I have to keep restarting the program to be able to paint again. 2. The second problem I have is the eyedropper tool. I have 2 documents open at the same time next to each other when I paint sometimes. In Photoshop for example I can just select the eyedropper grab a colour from the other document and continue painting when needed. In Affinity, the selected colour doesn't transfer over between documents. 3. The third problem is again to do with switching documents. If I have the paintbrush selected in one document, then select the second document to zoom in or whatever, when I return to the first document it defaults back to the move tool. Sorry for moaning on but I really like this program and want it to be my go to for everything but these problems just completely kill the flow of painting. Any help appreciated. Thanks.
  23. Hi, Is there a way to work with Affinity Designer so that I never get decimals in the Transform panel? I'm getting mixed results with using "Force Pixel Alignment" and "Move by Whole Pixel" and due to snapping/aligning, I sometimes still end up getting : X: 900px | Y:62,5px Of course this makes sense, if you align something in the middle, and the heights don't match, you do the divide by 2, and get a ,5 decimal... but it makes me always having to check the transform panel to make sure I don't have "badly" positioned elements. The reason I want this is for better export. I found that export works best if things are aligned on full pixel value. Maybe you can change the logic of the "Force Pixel Alignment" and/or "Move by Whole Pixel" to actually reflect this and do rounding of values whenever decimals are present. The explanations above are a bit all over the place, hopefully you understand the goal. If I were to go deeper into implementation, I would say this would make sense for "Move by Whole Pixel" with the rounding of the X / Y values. If user holds ALT / OPTION key pressed, then maybe allow decimal values, as an exception. Width and Height with decimals are maybe not that big of a deal, because the export slice can be set to a whole number, but the reference point (X/Y) is pretty important.
Gracias.
