  1. I have an Affinity Designer document on which I have set up a 1-inch grid. I wish to use the Pixel Persona and a Paint Brush Tool brush to draw lines that snap to the grid. That is, when I place my cursor near the grid and draw, the lines on the Pixel layer should follow right angles on the grid only. Is it possible to turn this behavior on—perhaps with a snapping setting of some sort? I've tried checking all settings contained within the "Enable Snapping" drop-down, but it doesn't happen. None of the help pages or Serif tutorial videos I've seen seem to include or mention this behavior, so I want to know for certain if it is possible.
  2. Hallo affinity team, I still have a question about the Brushes: so far I have been working in Illustrator, and use the program for design drawings of bags and textiles. It is very helpful that with per brush I was able to create different zipper variants and chains as brushes, which are then available as vectorbrush. Hence my question: how can I import them into Affinity design or create them there? I send you a screenshot of the panel I usually use to create them there.
  3. Hi there I´am trying to erase part of a mask using the brush in overlay blend mode. It suposse that if the mask is un black and white and the brush in overlay mode, when the brush pass over a white part of the mask, it should not affect whites, but it does. How can I fix this?
  4. Hi, I'm new to use Affinity Photo and Affinity Design. Till now I used Photoshop. I'm missing some function in Affinity. Can someone tell me how to rotate the canvas in Affinity Photo and how to change the Brush size with the mouse like Photoshop.
  5. Wouldn't it be great if someone made a set of brushes like these for Affinity? Or maybe you know of a set like these: https://www.mightydeals.com/deal/zen-fine-liner-art-mandala-creator.html?ref=ognews&refNL=bottom_signup P.S. This isn't a promo for anyone. It's the only way I had of showing what I'm referring to.
  6. Each time I zoom in / out on my A4 canvas I have some delay for the first paint brush input (both with wacom tablet and mouse). I don't have this problem on Affinity Photo. (Same config, same brush, same canvas) With smaller canvas it's better but I also feel the slight delay. I tried with OpenGL and Metal to see differences but it's the same for both renderer. laggypaintbrush.mov
  7. Hey guys......so I was working on my new course...and got the the lesson on making brushes.....sooooo I had to amek some brushes. 8. The Shiznizzle brushes say they have been imported but are not in my list I purchased Shiznizzle and Concept Master today. Everything installed fine to Affinity Photo windows desktop except the brushes for Shiznizze. I tried import twice (because I thought I forgot to import them on the first go), and I tried drag and drop the 3rd time. I got notifications each time that the brushes had imported successfully, and the second and third time it added 2 and 3 after the name of the brush. New brushes always appear at the bottom of my list, but I went through my list of brushes multiple times anyway. So, how can I use these missing but installed brushes?
  9. Short things short, I imported abr brushes from photoshop to affinity photo, some of them work all right, some of them have some weird lines and look really unlike they originally do, and some of them are a real mess. For now I'm posting only 1 example with weird lines and brush looking quite different, later on I'll update the post with ones where it's really messed up. Here's a comparison between AP (Affinity Photo) and PS(Photoshop). Abr brush pack is obtainable from here: Deviant art brushes In both scenarios used brush is as 5. As shown in image above.
  10. I would like Sreif to bring back "real" vector brush from DrawPlus to Affinity. Affinity's vector brush is actually a raster brush stroke with a curve, pseudo vector brush. Why this has been changed when Affinity was developed?
  11. Hi, Say I stroke a closed shape with a Vector Brush (in Designer). There is always a gap at the terminal point. Say you don't want the gap. No matter how you edit the brush's Properties – including Head or Tail Offset, Overlap, Pull, etc., – there's always a gap at the closing node. Is there a trick I don't know? (Besides opening the curve and tugging the end nodes for visual stroke overlap.) Wouldn't visual vector-brush stroke closure be a desirable feature for some/many purposes? ¿Could this option be designed into Brush Properties, in a later A.D. update? thanks in advance, – pbass
  12. So run into this problem where the head and tail offsets for a brush don’t seem to work for closed shapes (broken since 2017 btw). Outside of converting to curves and breaking the line, which creates other issues, the only way I see to fix this is to modify the brush texture image so there are no gaps on the ends and making the endpoints so they can be tiled. The question is, how do I export a textured brush’s source image (like from the default brushes) so that I can modify the the texture so there’s no gaps - since it seems that in 3 years Serif hasn’t bothered to fix this.
  13. Designer on iPad, recently updated: when I want to DUPLICATE a BRUSH from a list, the message "new brush added" appears, but no brush appears at the bottom of the list. In Affinity Photo duplication occurs, but in Designer NO
  14. Aside from having the ability to change your brush view in the Brushes panel from a list to a grid/icons, it would be really nice to be able to rearrange the brush categories. Every time new brushes are added, they are added in a new category at the bottom of the category list, but that category then can't be moved up or down. This removes the ability to (for example) move all of my inking brush categories closer together and all of my painting brush categories together, to keep things tidy and organised. Basically, in the same way you can move brushes up and down in the category list, it would be great to be able to do this with the brush categories themselves too. Not a big deal, but it would be a handy little addition to the brushes panel that would be nice to see in a future update - I also can't imagine it being very difficult to implement something like this.
  15. I read that the windows shortcut for brush size and hardness are holding Alt + Right Mouse Button and then dragging left/right or up/down. However this is not working for me. Am I doing something wrong?
  16. I'm trying to just get a basic brush but everything that says 'reset' doesn't rest them (under more button and also under preferences pane)...any other ideas or is this a bug?
  17. 1;使用马克笔的时候,用左手旋转画布后,画笔的旋转方向没有跟随手中的笔,而是跟随的画布 1;’When using the marker, rotate the canvas with your left hand, and the direction of rotation of the brush does not follow the pen in your hand, but the canvas 2;笔刷太快,尾部对流量的控制不是很好,在“流量”上甚至会有延迟 2;The brush is too fast, the tail does not control the flow very well, and there is even a delay in the "flow" 3;我的画笔不能按照我想要的顺序排列 3;My brushes can't be arranged in the order I want them to be 4;另外,我无法通过画笔里面的“动态”来轻松的设置我想要的笔刷,我希望有个完整的图文教程,或视频教程来说明 4;In addition, I can't easily set the brush I want by using the "dynamic" in the brush. I would like to have a full graphic tutorial or video tutorial to illustrate this
  18. Please add the ability to add pure vector based vector brushes based on vector objects for texture instead of PNGs. For now we can only add pixel based vector brushes. Being able to add pure vector brushes based on vector objects would allow us to create vector based textures and designs, which would be much easier to handle for any kind of (print) production. For example I tried to separate the colours to a spot colour PDF for screen print from this awesome work by Pierre Kleinhouse made for the Affinity Work from home series https://youtu.be/lL6gc8Oi2uw .afdesign file on DropBox: https://affin.co/LD2020PierreKleinhouse It was sort of a nightmare. I couldn't find a way to create a vector based spray texture within the Affinity Suite like in the second screen shot with the chimney. Expand stroke, working with spot colours, working with boolean operations ... a lot would be easier.
  19. Is there a way to make the paint brush less... juttery? When I hold down the bracket key shortcut to resize my brush, it does not resize smoothly. Here's a 10 second video of me resizing my brush. The first 2 seconds are at normal speed, and then the same clip slowed down to showcase the jutter. https://www.dropbox.com/s/7agz3uabfdwfwrd/Slow Brush.mp4?dl=0 Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is this just Affinity not working well? I am using a 2019 MacBook Pro, Affinity Photo version 1.8.3.
  20. Hi, this is my situation: In Designer I open a new document, then choose the vector brush tool. On the right side I click "brushes" and acrylic 128. Now , how can I return to the brush before I selected the acrylic 128 type... How can I switch back to it? Thank you for your help, Regards Jo
  21. Brush color(black/white) behave differently from on Quick Mask or Layer Mask. I can paint only white regardless of brush color. I would like brush to behave like on Quick Mask or Layer Mask. Is this a bug?
  22. My raster brushes are lagging a lot in Affinity Designer. I tried with both Windows 10 on and off. I'm using placard by Frankentoon. What might be the problem? My specs are: Windows 10, Intel G4560, 16Gb RAM. Running on a SSD and no GPU.
  23. Hi, i ran into weird brush opacity issue in AP 1.8. See the attached image. What i did: 1. Create new document (attached) 2. Select Brush tool via 'B' shortcut 3. Select Brush 2 4. Select 'Black 50%' color swatch from the Grays palette 5. Draw upper left X 6. Select Brush 1 7. Draw middle left X 8. Select Brush 2 9. Draw bottom left X. Here is the issue: why there seems to be opacity in the color/brush?!?! If i switch to Move tool, and then back to Brush, and redo everything (right side), it happens again. Windows 10 64bit Home, AP 1.8.3.641 Cheers -k brush_issue.afphoto
  24. I've been experiencing significant amount of initial brush lag/latency in 1.8, whether using a tablet or mouse - I'm using an iMac (HD, not retina, for what it's worth). I've seen this mentioned in the Windows specific section, but thought I'd bring it to the Mac section too as it seems to be an issue across the board. I addition to that (possibly related) I've also experienced weird thin tapers at the beginning of my strokes when using my drawing tablet (XP-Pen Artist 22R Pro), even if I press really hard with my tablet pen from the moment I put the pen down - the unwanted tapered beginnings are a lot more noticeable when drawing fast. I've mentioned this before, but it hasn't been addressed yet, and figured I'd being it up here. Here's a screen recording to show the lag and tapers for a better look - I also tested in Photoshop for comparison, but there are no issues there. I've kept the 'click-indicator' on in the recording so that you can see where the stroke starts: Affinity 1.8 Brush Issues (Lag and Unwanted Tapers): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2GJ52So6GUU In both cases it seems as if the software takes a second to read and interpret my tablet pen input, even after I've already started drawing. I've looked into it extensively and done a bunch of testing, thinking it could just be my tablet or tablet driver, but it's not the case as it works perfectly in all other software.
