  1. This is a simple technique I use regularly to copy a path in Illustrator, then in After Effects I create a shape layer that I then paste onto so I can animate it (aka like a logo)...but while I can copy the path in Affinity Designer, After Effects doesn't paste it. Does anyone know why? And whether there is a solution or setting I can change that will enable this? This is kind of a vital feature I need in order to decouple from Illustrator. Thanks.
  2. This feature is from illustrator (i used cs4). this is very powerful features which allow to re-color any part of an object: symbols, shapes, groups etc' It shows the user all the color used, and let him modify any of them. saves the user time of selecting objects and sub object individually. Attaching pic. also the ability to make a keyboard short cut to it is vey important. I'm very miss this thing. Thanks, Rotem.
  3. Hello! I am a new user and I love the experience so far! But I have an issue... I can't export my files to AI without losing the paths. When opening the file in AI for editing the design is outlined.
  4. Hi all, I was wondering if someone knows a way to export svg with the content that is outside artboard? I have tried everything but only solution is to expand the artboard which isn't something I like to do.When I have a scene with elements outside the canvas like for example a car I would like to have all of the elements exported not only the visible one
  5. Hi, id like to ask if is possible to have in Affinity Designer a effect similar to Ai Zig Zag? Maybe with custom brushes, effects or some kind of trick, maybe? Is that even possible? Thanks
  6. Hi, This is my first attempt at using Affinity Designer and have come to a hurdle; I am trying to edit the text on an existing logo that was created in AI. I cannot seem to be able to select the text, is this maybe because it has been rasterised? Is there a way I can do this please? Thanks.
  7. In Acrobat, it's shown correctly. mask_test x4.pdf mask_test.ai
  8. The closest I can find in the Help guide is the Pen Tool in either "Pen" Mode or "Smart" Mode, but I'm not very skilled (if anti-skilled were a thing, I'd use that) at using the Pen Tool. Is there a "pre-fabricated" tool like what Illustrator or iDraw has for those of us falling into the "Artistically Deficient" category? ;)
  9. Hi, There's a function hidden away in Illustrator that I actually use often. It's "Paste Remembers Layers." This is a frequent scenario I encounter: usually I work in separate documents in order to create a finished piece. Lots of layers. Then I paste what I've done into the one "Master" piece. I'd like to retain the layers I created. Is this functionality in the software and I'm missing it? Or perhaps slated for a future version? Thanks!
  10. Hi all! I am considering making the switch from Adobe Illustrator to Affinity Designer. I am wondering how I can replicate a similar result with Illustrator's shapes tool in Designer. In Illustrator, I had the following workflow: Add two lines. Add a circle. Select all shapes. Activate the shapes tool (shortcut shift-M on a Mac). Hold alt, hover and select the exterior of the circle to "cut" away that portion, thus leaving two lines with an angle (arc) in between. I would like to know how I can "cut" away a circle in Designer, leaving just the a
  11. Is there a way in Affinity Designer to quickly copy a text style? In Illustrator it was fairly easy to do that with the eye dropper too since that worked both as a colour picker as well as a text style picker. I just want to be able to select a text block and quickly apply the style and format of another text block. I can't seem to find a quick way in Affinity Designer. Thanks!
  12. Decided to have a little fun and made this digital sketch of Bernie Sanders 😁
  13. Hi, I've just downloaded the Affinity Designer trial, and am quite impressed. However, I am a design student and my school computers have adobe programs. As far as I can tell, I can't find any way of exporting Designer files as Ai files? I can see the option to export as psd, and I've tried to open Ai files using Designer with no problems - but I wanted to check whether there was a way of exporting to Ai that I had missed. Thanks
  14. I made this illustration based on a picture book from the 1960s with illustrations made by Doris Dumler. I tried to recreate it using Designer, usng the Shinznizzle styles for texture and patterns. It was interesting how a convincing mid-century look can be recreated.
  15. I'm working in affinity for last 6 months now and I despise Illustrator. I can't stop talking about how anti-intuitive is Illustrator. But they have an undoubtedly nice feature called package. It saves the raw file, the fonts involved and other things plus a report in a folder. Can we do the same in Affinity somehow? That report document is very important when we work for clients or with other designers to know what kind of colour space and font and etc etc was used on the specific project.
  16. Hello, I downloaded this file https://www.freepik.com/free-vector/bacteria-infection-virus-flu-background_7080504.htm from freepik. The EPS file opening properly on illustrator but opening as a image file only in Affinity Designer. I attached the EPS file. 23913.eps
  17. So I tried Illustrator for iPad... it turns out Serif doesn’t have any competition 😅 for starters, the pen tool was kinda janky especially when closing a shape(if Adobe can’t even get the basics right...), no width variance features for strokes or corner smoothing, and for €10 a month!? Vector software has to at least get these fundamentals working out of the box or it’s a 👎 from me. Anyone lose have a better experience?
  18. Affinity Forums Hello friends, greetings from Honduras, now will share a link to download vectors and more. link: http://es.all-free-download.com The site is ideal for use with Affinity Designer. greetings To You
  19. We open a lot of Illustrator files in Affinity Designer. Normally this works great. Now we have an Illustrator file where the text will not load into AD. There is not a single text block loaded in the document. Not even missing fonts. When we export to PDF from Illustrator and open the PDF in Edge or Adobe Reader the text is displayed perfectly. When importing that PDF into AD everything disappears again. When I use Ghostscript to convert the AI to PDF the PDF is also displayed ok in the browser or Adobe Reader. When opening in AD I get some missing fonts. When I replace them
  20. Here’s a suggestion, Serif need to capitalise on the fact the recent Illustrator release for iPad is brutal. Demonstrate how you get way more bang for your buck in terms of features and abilities, and all without being locked into a subscription. Seriously, get some live demos out there while the iron’s hot and steal the limelight. Designer has so much potential, routing for y’all 🤘
  21. HI to all I am try to open file coming from Illustrator and Designer lost all the Group and Layer, in complex file is quite a big problem. There is a solution? Thank you for any help 14.ai
  22. For those of you who needs Pantone colors support in Affinity Designer before the Serif team release an official support in it, here is a trick you can do. Firstly, you need an Adobe Illustrator licence to be able to do this, or install a demo version of Illustrator. Then you need to install SwatchBooker. http://www.selapa.net/swatchbooker/ Or you compile it yourself to get a Mac version, or you use it under Linux, or use it with Windows. Personally, I installed the Windows version into a CrossOver bottle and it works out of the box. Launch SwatchBooker Editor, in the File menu,
  23. Hey Guys, I'm a fashion design student and I switched from Adobe Illustrator to Affinity Desginer. I don't want to use AD just for drawings but for technical drawings too. My problem: in Illustrator I had brushes for zippers and stitches. Everytime I drew a straight line I could change the brush into a zipper or a stitch but for AD there is nothing like this pre made brushes available (or haven't found it yet). So, is it possible that someone can explain me how I make this brushes in AD or it would be nice if someone do it for me I attached you the ad file with the pre m
  24. In illustrator one could directly copy some content of a file, and paste as picture in most other programs. When hitting STRG+Copy in Affinity designer, then trying to paste into another program affinity designer silently closes. This is in my opinion not the wanted behaviour, and therefore I consider this a bug. 1.according to the figure I use the latest version, (1.8.5 [703]). 2. yes I can multiple times. 3. not in a file created with AD, but with Illustrator. copied the relevant 2 boxes into this new document.... For further things please enquire thanks JK Unbenannt.a
