Here's what I loved / learnt / found out Speed. Being a native app, it is way faster than anything like Figma. Super fast preview of fonts, colors, styles etc. I can see how it looks while hover my mouse on! (mind blown and great for creating fast) Learnt to use character and paragraph styles Learnt to use global color swatches Learnt to use symbols (but didn't actually use it) Learnt to use Effects (overlay, shadow etc.) Spent a lot of time on typography panels - character, paragraph and few others. There was an option to stop showing text sizes in points Here are some complaints / feedback / bugs When I export to PDF it exports with a different variation/style of the font. So I had to use PNG exports for now. (tested multiple times) The snapping was driving me mad, but using the 'UI Design' preset under the snapping manager made it easier. I wish I could configure it like I want. I wish there was feedback from the interface when I do things like 'create style', for a while I was confused between normal styles and text styles. Bizarre things happen when I try to select some text partially in a layer that in deep in hierarchy, and paste it outside. Huge bounding box. Text navigation was inconsistent with Mac text navigation, I'm used to using alt + left/right for word navigation. Here it seems to alter kerning. Text panels need simplification, I was lost often among so many exposed options. Perhaps a reduced mode for web supported options? The alignment panel didn't let me choose align to artboard or selection bounds. It was always in artboard, and now it changed to bounding box (which I prefer). I wish I knew why sometimes it was greyed out Overall I understand I'm probably the odd one here using this tool for webdesign among a sea of illustrators and graphic designers. I'd like to hear from other who might use it for webdesign. I wish there was a one-click setup or a setup wizard that showed me presets (where I could pick web design, before I start a file). I'll still continue to use this amazing tool, and share my learnings.

I have just started a new A3 portrait orientation document, with a 3 mm bleed on each edge. I have View Show Bleed ticked. That shoes the area. However, I seem to remember that there is a way to have a visual indication of which area is document and which area is bleed, in the form of a rectangle, possibly red. However, I don't remember how to do that. i have tried looking in the help facility but I could not find it. Can someone remind me please? William William

On MacBook Pro 16" Intel, macOS 11.6.7, Affinity Photo and Publisher 1.10.5 with Apple Cinema Display 30" (notebook screen closed) In Preferences I've changed Performance Settings for Hardware Acceleration, Display and Rendering but situation is not affected. Attaching the documents did not work in this form, so I have uploaded then here for you to download: https://www.gidman.ch/downloads/support/affinity_support_220615.zip 01 When I place the document created in Photo into Designer the appearance changes; it gets more contrast and is darker. See Screenshot: 01_affinity_photo_document_placed_in_publisher_is_darker.jpg 02 If I quit the programs and reopen the Publisher document, the Photo document image is displaying at a much lower resolution. Occasionally I can get it to display with higher resolution if I right click over the image, while the image layer is not selected, and wait a moment. Context: Suppose I have many small objects scattered and selected all over the canvas (selected objects belong to different hierarchical levels, e.g. grouped, nested groups and so on). Now when they are all selected, I know that 50% of the screen should not be selected. Goal: I need to de-select 50% of the screen easily, sort of like with a lasso tool just by going around area that I do not need. Currently, there's no such opportunity in AD. This is something I am in need of very often and my only option is selecting (or de-selecting) one-by-one. It would be really nice if Affinity team added support for such an operation.

Still playing with the transform Tool, with command+j and change color on line and interior, Try to understand how to do it faster, it's great keep the values in the transfomation tool but what about color? Add some variations with duplicate and mirror, and how to get a more vivid color with layer alpha and effects.

Hi all, hope all is well, its been a while since I posted any updates. I've finally completed the first of many children's picture books, you may have seen a copy a while back, but I wasn't happy with the end results from the printers and there has been many, many changes. I have also designed the website in Affinity Designer which contains games and free activities for schools and parents. Ohhh My Strawberry Monkey is the series of books and are stories of friendship based around a cute, pink, lovable, but somewhat clumsy monkey who will certainly cause a few chuckles. Hi guys, recently I modified a lot of properties for a project and now I get this weird, way to big of a space between the sentences after pressing enter. I've already tried EDIT/Standard Values/Reset but its seems to reset everything but the space. Any idea where to look? Cheers Alex

Hey, I found something annoying in designer. When putting a lot of colors on top of eachother and clipping them, they start to bleed out on the edges and start to look like a stroke. If you look closely you can even see the orange line in the purple bottom part. Weird thing is, it's in the exported svg as well but if I import that svg again in Designer, then it's gone! Is this normal? Should I report it as a bug? I have turned hardware acceleration off and on but no change then. I've added the image so if you want to take a look yourself, be my guest. Yesterday I generated some artwork in Affinity Designer. I saved the file as I went along. When I had got in electronic form the idea that I had in my mind, I exported a png file at one third size in both axes (so a ninth of the area) and posted it in the Share your work section. Loking at what i produced is probably not relevant to the question in this post, but for completeness, here is a link to the thread. https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/163212-art-and-a-poem-using-language-independent-glyphs/ So earlier this evening I decided to produce a full size jpg version (so as to inspect it and if fine get a hardcopy greetings card made featuring the artwork). However, when I opened the file I was offerd a recovery file. This is not the first time this has happened, not with this project, but with other projects. So I accepted and saved as an .afdesign file with a new name (in fact, as before but _recovey file_added. The artwork seems the same in both files, though that without detailed checking. So my question please is as follows. Does exporting a png file where one alters the size of the exported image or one alters anything about the export get regarded as changing the file, even if the artwork itself has not been altered since saving before the exporting dialogue was entered? Hello Affinity Team, I would love to have the origin of my coordinates (x,y) in the center of my page. Because I align my objects in relation to the center, it is essential to my workflow to have the origin in the center of my page. Example: If my page is 80x40 how do I bring the origin of the coordinate system to 40x20? Thank you, very appreciate your support. Vitaly

These are Affinity SVG parsing/interpretation bugs, since according to the SVG spec, a style attribute prevails ... In Affinity however the above defined SVG rectangle will be always shown in aliceblue instead of beige, since the precedence over the fill attribute never takes place! - This probably affects all Affinity platform versions! Designer 1.10.5.1342 on Windows 10. I seem to have arrived at a position where I cannot drag Symbols from the Symbol Panel in the attached document – see video. I can duplicate a symbol just fine, I just don’t seem to be able to drag any new ones from the panel. If I close the document and application, and then launch the application and open the file then all is fine again. Just before I recorded the video, one drag attempt brought a ‘mega symbol’ containing six ‘originally-coloured’ symbols but I don’t seem to be able to replicate that. I’ve managed to get this document into the same ‘state’ twice but I can’t remember what I did. Hi, I've had this problem actually from the start, with Designer for Mac OS, regardless of updates. If I have a proximity of small curves and I try to select one with the Move Tool, Designer will select a nearby curve but not the one I'm directly selecting. It's as if the selection were offset. The selection works fine with large curves. This can become quite a problem when I have lots of close strokes. Has anyone else had this happen? Thanks.
