  1. I'm currently learning Affinity Designer and saw a tutorial for making some icons in Adobe Illustrator. I decided to try making some to use and learn different tools and processes. In the tutorial they show how to make a shadow of the icon by moving to the side and using 'Blend Options' to create many steps so that it looks like a continuous shadow and not a duplicate shape behind (In the hyperlinked tutorial on Icon 1, Step 5). Just a shape behind, not continuous. Continuous. What I'm trying to achieve. So basically, I am asking to see what is the best way to achieve this in Affinity designer? Is there a similar feature available to that in Illustrator?
  2. I apologize if this is a common topic, but I searched and none of the solutions have worked. I made a shape using the pen tool, and when I try to fill it, it ends up doing this (see photo). The photo is zoomed in because I can't show the entire project yet, but that's not important. Why does it do this and how can I fill the shape? I don't know why there's straight lines going through the shape, I didn't put them there... they appeared when I tried to fill the entire shape. Any advice please? This is a recurring issue and it's really preventing me from moving forward. Thanks!
  3. Ok this is starting to drive me nuts. I've been using Affinity Designer for at least 6 months for various small non-professional projects and it's been fantastic. I'm trying to create a drawing of the side panel of a bar-top arcade game I'm building which I'll print out and use as a cutting template. I've drawn two shapes and want to join/ add them. The two shapes have given every indication of having snapped together, but every time I select them using the move tool and hitting the add button it groups the two shapes/ curves rather than adding them and losing the line between them leaving just the outline. I've used add to create the top shape, but these two won't add together. Ultimately I could live with this, but I really want to put a radius corner on the bottom right corner of the top shape where it connects to the bottom. Can anyone explain where I might be going wrong? I'm using v 1.5.2 on a Mac (10.12.3) in the draw persona.
  4. Hi! I didn't find anything like this so I ask you guys. Using Inkscape I can crop ("clip" as it's called) a raster image using any vector shape The way to do this is putting the shape above the raster image, select both, go Object > Clip > Set; the result is a raster image like the following example in the attached PNG. That's the way I put some texture or anything in certain shapes. Is there a way to do something like that? If that's not the case, sounds reasonable as a Feature request? Best regards!
  5. When I Ctrl+Click on a shape layer with no fill, I won't get a selection. If it has a fill, I do.
  6. Here is a .gif that illustrates the issue. I'm unable to select the heart shape tool. http://www.giphy.com/gifs/3o6ZtqnvmHMMlA3ZPG
  7. 8. Apologies if this has been asked before, I did look a bit. I'm just trying to create a shape of a specific size I.E. rectangle the size of 1920x1080. All help appreciated.
  9. is there a chance to join the function export shape for Apple Motion ? Export as Motion shape.js.zip
  10. I've been able to change the shortcut for the Rectangle, Ellipse, and Rounded-Rectangle Tools, but I don't see a listing for the Tool that includes the rest of the shapes (triangle, arrow, etc.). I noticed that, when hovering over that tool before I changed things, the "Shapes" Tool displayed the M shortcut--same as the Rectangle Tool. After changing the Rectangle to R, no shortcut is listed on the Shapes Tool, so it must have been "removed" somewhere. Does anyone know how to access the shortcut entry field for it? I couldn't find anything related under the Draw/Tools list in the Keyboard Shortcuts section of Preferences.
  11. Hi Folks, Been a while since I've been on here! Anyway I'm after help yet again. So I'm putting together a logo design for a friend and the design is a full circle with a smaller circle within the outer. However, the inner circle needs to be broken at the bottom... I have attached a couple of rough sketch's that I have done so that you get the idea what I am talking about. Basically what is the best way to create the break in the inner circle? Confused? you will be   Cheers in advance, because I know you lot will know the answer ;) Mark Logo sketch.pdf
  12. Hi all - This may appear as a complete 'nob head' question but I am hiding behind the excuse of being new to Affinity... Question: How to center text both center and middle in a shape? I have a number of squares, each generated with the corresponding shape tool, and want to put a block of text in each, each possibly of a different lenght. Irrespective their character number, each text block should become positioned exactly in their square's center. I've run past the text tutorials - each of which are excellent - but couldn't find the answer I am looking for. Could anyone help me out here?
  13. Hey guys, First of all, wonderful job on this app. It's so promising and I'm so happy to be a part of the community. I haven't been able to integrate it into my daily workflow because it's missing some key points, and every time I use it I stumble upon a lot of those. One small detail which actually makes a big difference on regular usage is the fact that while creating a shape or resizing it, I can't hold space bar to move it. That's a feature most vector graphics apps out there include, and it makes life a lot easier in terms of positioning elements on the screen. Does anyone else miss this?
  14. I'm new to affinity, trying it out to see if I like it. But I'm struggling here.... How do you delete or erase part of a line segment in a shape? I have two overlapping shapes, and I want to make them into one and delete the overlap. I rasterized the shape, but is there a way to un-rasterize it in its new form? Or is there a way to get a cleaner cut from a line segment with out it being pixelated in the first place?
  15. Hello there, Today I noticed that for some reason, the selection of a compound shape shows an outline that is different from the actual shape. But this only happen on a very particular region, one that have a round corner applied. To be honest, this is not a big problem for me, I am just curious about it, not sure if it is a bug, a mistake I did or if it works like this by software design (probably not). Here is a screenshot, look how the outline of the selection differs from the actual shape in the round corners. Maybe I am doing something wrong?
  16. I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm new to Designer and I have been watching the tutorials to get help, but now I"m stuck. I watched the tutorial about "power duplicate" and in the tutorial when he creates another star shape, in the layers you can see that the star shape is in the same layer as the original star. When I create a copy of my star shape Designer is creating the star shape in a brand new layer instead of in the same layer. Instead of having multiple stars in the same layer like in the tutorial I have multiple layers of one star. Is there a setting I'm missing? Can someone assist me? HELP!
  17. Hi, everyone! As I haven't found any topic on this, so the decision was made to post a new one. I have one elliptical shape, which I want to be distributed along any free line at certain density. Something like the image below, only at much higher density, but just so you can understand my needs. Maybe just a simple vector brush would do? But I haven't figured out how to make one. — the shape actually mustn't rotate; needs to stay in its default orientaiton — I would prefer the shape to have an exact dimensions (set in milimeters) — variable density would be useful, but not necessary Is there a way to do this in Affinity Designer? I need this for typeface design :) Thank you.
  18. Hello there! :) I have a really strange issue with my Affinity Designer. Maybe I unconsciously pushed some wrong buttons before, but when I click any object, it gets this weird pink-ish outline coming from nowhere. See the attached file. The huge green shape actually is drawn as the pink outline shows, but the Corner Tool is applied so it doesn't match in corners. Also the odd happens to text, you can see on the left only the first letter gets the outline. I should also add that it is only a viewer issue, Designer doesn't create an actual object/shape and the outline doesn't show in exports. Plus I tested and it seems to be app-oriented stuff as it happens to all documents I open and then select an object. Thanks for any input on this. I've tried going through the View menu and Preferences, but couldn't solve it on my own. Regards, Radek
  19. Hey all! I am having a problem with a shuriken I designed. I made a star and omitted sections by masking with other shapes. The only problem is that the whole outline is rendered with the image when I try to export. How can I be rid of those lines so that only the shuriken is rendered, not the whole star in outline form?
  20. Hi everyone - I've been trying to solve this for a while now and can't. I'm sure it's obvious but...I've lost my special shapes. On my left hand dock, I have the rectangle through the triangle tools and below that the "A." I've used the special shapes (cog, star, etc.) before but now I can't find them. I lost a bunch of stuff today somehow (control panels, etc.) and got everything back except this. Can someone tell me how to restore or find these shapes? Thanks so much in advance! Katie
  21. Hi, Something strange happens when I want to get the selection of a shape on a rotated image. Here is the process : 1- Open an image 2- Rotate it (Document/Rotation 90°) 3- Draw a closed shape with the pen tool (P) 4- Create a selection by cliking the "selection" button in the pen tool options As you can see, the selection appear at the wrong place, as if it kept the old image coordinates (before the rotation). Thanks by advance to your answer. Note : It would be good to click on the "mask" button and having the possibility to invert the mask ... problem_rotation-shape-selection.mov
  22. Hi, I draw some strokes for a logo (look at the attached picture). I used strokes and changed the pressure to have different width along the line. The end of the stroke is round. I wanted to export my work in eps format to be able to print it ou use it with Illustrator... I saw in the eps file in illustrator that the round of my stokes became broken lines. Come back in AD, I decide to vectorise the stroke (layer menu). In french it's called "vectoriser le contour". And I obtain the same result : broken lines... Is it a normal behavior ? I also wonder why there are so many nodes (and no tools to simplify all those nodes). It's very difficult to change/adjust quickly the curve with so many useless nodes !! I hope my explanation is clear. Thank you.
  23. Hi guys, This is a workaround tutorial. I have summarized the findings of this discussion thread in a short video tutorial. It shows a way how to make a shape, how to assign a distortion filter, how to adjust the effect within the shape and how to make the effect movable around the picture. However, it also shows the limitations. It is currently not possible to directly associate a shape with a lens effect. Better would be: that we could assign a live filter directly to a shape, that the life filter is moving its position relative to the shape Possibly, the Affinity Photo team can comment it? Best regards Blauer Claus Tutorial Distortion Effect.mov
