  1. I cannot write the letter "u" in Affinity with the font "EB Garamond". It is always replaced by "v". In Pages, oddly enough, the font works fine, so I don't think it's the font itself. Does anyone have any idea if there is a setting for this?
  2. Hi, I have a company font, which I can use in almost all MacOS applications. When I use this font in one of the Affinity applications, the characters are replaced by a default font. See attachments. How to resolve this? Br, Jaap
  3. Hi, can anyone write by brand in this style? Will pay for the work. Lee
  4. Not sure if this is a bug or as featured on Publisher 1.9. Recently I updated my collection of Open Sans font by Google (So I use the last official and clean version). As I open a Publisher document, now i'm greeted with a message about Open Sans Regular being missing and it shows as that in preflight. No issue here, i go to font manager and select Open Sans Regular as replacement font. But keeps asking for the original Open Sans and it seems not to register the font substitution. This is not happening with any other Open Sans Style and, if I recall correctly, when i replaced other open sans styles and other fonts in general, it gets updated correctly and never ask for it again. Is not a life threatening issue. Open Sans is correctly used but the message and the error in the preflight is annoying.
  5. Hello, I'm working with Affinity Photo 1.8.6 on a Mac running OS 10.14.6 I have the 'Symbol' font installed in the operating system (ie Font Book.app). It's a standard font that always comes with the operating system and is used for greek symbols/letters. Here's a snapshot In all other applications I'm using (e.g. Microsoft Word), the Symbol font is working just fine. In Affinity Photo, the Symbol font does appear in the drop-down font menu when I select "All Fonts" as the category. However, if I type some text, highlight it, then select "Symbol" from the drop-down menu, it doesn't work. Instead, an exclamation mark appears in front of the font name, and on the canvas the Symbol font is not displayed: So somehow it seems that Affinity Photo is having problems accessing this font? Is there any way to fix this? Thanks !
  6. A problem I run into every time I make the simplest poster.... I come up with a dozen fonts I like and I want to quickly compare them in my design and switch back and forth. How do I do this?? I always end up writing a phrase out on a new doc and setting all the different fonts to compare. Ridiculous. Is there a way to make a font set in Affinity so I can quickly compare??
  7. Hello. When choosing a font from the font menu in Affinity Designer, I cannot change the font of the text by scrolling. So there is no font preview. Is this a mistake? I had no such issue before the last Big Sur update.
  8. Whenever I go to open up an Affinity document which another colleague has created, unfortunately all of the fonts do not automatically load in. To resolve this we have had to manually select the font for each section of text on every Artboard (please see attachment). This has become quite time confusing in order to do for each document now and I was wondering whether this was a bug or there's an easier way to resolve this perhaps? Any help would be much appreciated. Just to note, each of the fonts we use have already been installed, and we work on Macbooks. Thank you in advance, Kind Regards, Chris.
  9. I have been trying to load a few new fonts to Affinity Designer on my iPad Pro. When I select the fonts and then press open I get a message saying. Can’t communicate with helper application. I have tried quitting and resetting but get the same message every time. I don’t know what helper application the message refers to. Any suggestions. I’d really like to use more fonts.
  10. Which PDF setting renders body type the best? I regularly produce a 26 page brochure using Affinity Publisher. NONE of the AP PDF settings would render really crisp small type. The closest I got to an acceptable result was creating my own custom settings with No Downsampling. It is acceptable, but not really crisp (see the page sample I have attached to this question). I hate to say it, but the PDF renderings I used to get with InDesign were always crisp. I think that is because InDesign PDF's included a setting option to "Include All Fonts". What can I do to make sure all fonts are included with my AP PDF's? Is there something I am not understanding? Can anyone help me please? — FYI, I am using a MacBook Pro with 27" Apple display. 11. I've search the forum to see if this was addressed and didn't find anything yet. I have a number of fonts that will not render at all and are replaced with Arial across Publisher and Designer. When I open up the Font Manager in Publisher, it says that there are unsupported characters. However, I did notice that if I attempt to set up a Character Style, the font is rendered correctly in the browser. Additionally, if I activate the Glyph panel, the font appears correctly and, though time consuming, can be applied. I saw mention that Variable and SVG types weren't supported but I'm not exactly sure how to check that. The attached image show a list of some of the affected fonts (Arial is just a baseline) and how it appears when viewing the Character Style.
  12. Hello everyone, I recently purchased some fonts and in one of the font families I have both Desktop Fonts and Web Fonts When I want to add both types of a single font it says that they are duplicates. 1) even though one extension is .ttf and the other .otf 2) even if I change the file name of one of the files (so that both the file name and the extension is different) I still get the same problem Is there a way to have both a Desktop and a Web version of the same font? I need the Web for designing websites (obviously ) but I would like to take advantage of the ligatures and other versions of some letters that the font designers have designed for print and avertising applications and I do need the Desktop .otf version as well. Thanks in advance! Best Regards Boyan
  13. Create 2 color Glyphs and fonts Affinity Photo & Affinity Designer tutorial. Here’s a trick to create a two color glyph or font in both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. It can even follow a path in Designer. https://youtu.be/FoqFwikwM1A
  14. Hello, I am trying to make transparent png files, that are only words, no pictures. These are forms that can be digitally imported into apps such as Good Notes. I have made the forms, it's just the sharpness of the font isn't what I would like, I mean the finished file is 'acceptable' but I want it crisper, sharper. I have tried setting up the document at 300 dpi and also at 400 dpi, I do not see much improvement at the 400 dpi. I have tried Serif and San Serif fonts. I have also tried using both the regular text tool and the artistic text tool. I do not want to make pdfs. I want the user to be able to be able to place the file over different backgrounds. Are there other settings I should be using? Thanks!
  15. Affinity Projects move between Desktop and iPad. Fonts must move easier than today. This would be the easiest way to get used fonts to iPad: ☑️ Embed Fonts in Affinity file. 👈 feature request I would like to see fonts embedded in affinity files to seamlessly continue a project on the iPad that was started on a Mac or PC.
  16. I got this message that a font is missing in the preflight. In font manager all shows OK so this is related to an imported PDF file. This imported PDF is a generated report and I have chosen a font that I already use in the document, but still it shows as missing? Is the only way here to rastersize this? Would be great to just leave as is and when updated I wont need to do the process again.
  17. I'm disappointed that FONTS are no longer available on the top left menu of Designer 1.8.3! This must have been in an "update". Having the font at the top left was so practical. I liked the quick reference of FONTS at the top menu and now its literally a chore to have to go find the FONT info in the character tab. FONTS have always been in the studio but I always used the more convenient option in the Toolbar. It would have been helpful to at least leave an option for users to put the Fonts menu back in the Toolbar using the "Customize Toolbar" option, but it is not an option. I think this was a bad software design move. I know it's just a small thing and we will all learn to live with it. I'm most disappointed that I actually feel this way... and that it has affected my enjoyment of using Affinity Designer. 😥
  18. Hi! I must say that I'm coming to love Affinity software! I'm trying to figure out how I can disable font smoothing when using a tff format pixel font. I've tried following instruction below (adjusting the coverage map), which does remove the anti-aliasing but the font becomes mangled. Is this supported for this in Affinity Photo? https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/57282-how-to-turn-off-anti-aliasing-for-text/ Thanks Jim
  19. Hi, I just wanted to check if there a way to see the list of fonts used in a Affinity Designer document? I generally convert all the fonts to curve before sending the file (PDF) to printer to avoid missing fonts issue. But some font's don't get converted with ctrl+select (eg. fonts used in symbols). Finding the list of fonts in the document would help to identify if there's still some fonts that are not converted. Thank you.
  20. I just wanted to let everyone know that Monotype, the creators of FontExplorer X, told me via a tweet that they definitely have Affinity products on their radar for integration. This is really good news, however as with all software development they have not been able to provide a timeline. I recommend that everyone who wants font activation and enjoy using FontExplorer X as much as I have over the past 10 years, should contact them and let them know there is a huge community wanting auto font activation. It's such a pain to do it manually. See below. @nathan_ford @monotype This is definitely on our radar, and we agree that Affinity apps are impressive. Thank you for your input, Chris! 2/27/20
  21. I need to export a few files to PDF format so that they can be edited in illustrator. Maybe this isnt the best way, but i tried exporting as eps, and everything was exported as curves instead of editable type I . I have been exporting other projects as "pdf (for export)" and most of the files have been fine, albeit a bit janky at times and have to sort of reassemble the way the text gets formatted. This particular file however, no matter what way i choose to export it as pdf, I cant get the type to export not as jibberish text. Is there something that im missing here? Thanks for the help all. I included what the text should look like, the pdf, and the design file X4_Itani_Menu__06-18-20.pdf X4_Itani_Menu__06-18-20.afdesign
  22. Affinity Photo & Designer 1.8.3 (App Store installed) macOS Mojave 10.14.6 On my MBP either program was unable to open any editable file from anywhere on the file system nor could it save a new file that was created, resulting in a warning of "Permission Denied." However, on my Mac Pro, everything worked just fine. After some research someone said it was related to the number of fonts installed on the system. I confirmed this case by reducing the number of fonts to match my Mac Pro on my MBP. MBP had 2,800 fonts and the MP had 2,300 enabled. Also, an interesting side note, Publisher which I've purchase direct instead of the App Store had no problems with 2,800 fonts. No other program is affected by the number of fonts enabled, this bug should be fixed.
  23. I haven't gone through my entire collection yet, but I've noticed this problem specifically with two families: Bahnschrift and Cascadia Code. Both happen to be Microsoft typefaces included in Windows 10, though other Microsoft typefaces are fine. Photo 1.8.4.674 and all previous betas I've tried exhibit the same behaviour. Despite the typeface offering several styles (light, condensed, bold, black, italic, etc.), all styles show up as "Regular". Photo seems to know that there is more than one style, and it gets the count correct (e.g., there are indeed 15 styles for Bahnschrift and 6 styles for Cascadia Code). Selecting any of the styles just results in the Regular one being chosen. Photo seems to be the only software that is confused here. Everything else I tried, whether it be Microsoft software like Notepad or Paint, or Adobe Photoshop, or ShareX (my screenshot tool), or Firefox or Brave, etc. are all able to see and apply the different styles. So what's different about these two typefaces that are causing problems with Photo? It doesn't look like Microsoft provides a separate download for Bahnschrift, but you can get Cascadia Code at https://github.com/microsoft/cascadia-code
  24. Hello, thank you for watching. Here are some of my suggestions 1. Perspective tool: I hope that the shortcut operation of the perspective tool can be increased. Currently, the perspective tool can only drag a single stroke point to adjust, but the work needs, I sometimes need to allow two anchor points on a line to be mirrored and transformed at the same time, similar to the square adjustment. Trapezoid, now you can only use the anchor point to look at the numerical adjustment, which is more troublesome 1. 2. Selection: You can stroke the selection. At present, if you want to stroke the selection, you can only call up the selection and then use the shape tool to fill the color. It will be more troublesome, and I found that dragging the mouse to adjust the selection only supports expansion and not indentation. 2. 3. Layers: You can set shortcut keys for cutting layers, and now you can only drag layers with the mouse to adjust the overlay relationship 3. 4. Embedded object: It can quickly convert the layer into an embedded object, similar to a new smart object, without saving the file before placing it. 4. 5. Brushes: The secondary brushes in the brush tool hope to add those texture brushes that come with the software. Currently, only the round brushes and textures are supported. If you can add other brushes, I believe that you can make more effects. 5. 6. Font: It is a pity that many Chinese is not very friendly at present, the system Chinese font can not preview Chinese, and the font title is not Chinese, so it will be more troublesome to use 6. 7. The font layer will be rasterized after exporting the file in psd format, so the handover of the project with colleagues will be more troublesome. 7. 8. Artboard function: I hope that AP can have the same artboard function as AD, which is convenient for putting multiple items in one file for reference and comparison. 8. 9. As a member of many Chinese users, I would like to talk about my own feelings. Now more and more Chinese people are using Affinity series software. We especially like this software, and we have been working hard to study the usage skills. , I hope to increase the Chinese community section, so that more people can put forward their own experience and suggestions, I hope you can do better. 9.
  25. Would be nice if you could offer a font pack as either of bundled or separated product. Especially Japanese fonts are expensive if I buy them from a font developer directly. So Adobe or Corel is bundling some fonts to their product and it's convenient for users. So people in Japan are hoping you to provide a font pack.
