stojames got a reaction from v_kyr in Photo restoration, colorization, AP v1
I took a photo restoration class a while ago. Class used photoshop, but I did all my work with Affinity Photo v1. I have a damaged image provided in the class here. I did my restoration work on it and then I tried colorizing it on my own (not an assignment for this image). I have been restoring quite a few old family photos. Some are too damaged for me to do anything with.

I had 2 photos of castle in Varazdin Croatia. I used Affinity Photo v1 to stitch the 2 photos together. I removed myself and a friend and had to reconstruct part of lawn and walkway. I took liberty of removing someone in red from doorway. AP worked great to make the 2 photos into a single photo of the full castle.

I created a menu for an Italian Pizza restaurant. I changed the phone and address as I didn’t want to post the real ones. I used Affinity Photo for the photos and Designer for creating the icons and shapes. Lots of text, tables to work with.
These are jpg and don’t look as sharp as in Publisher or as the final PDFs used to print the menus.

First test of complex drawing in Affinity Designer 2. Crashed three times - first crash moderate data loss, the following second significant data loss. Image is not finished yet, but I ordered a new computer and will wait for the new rig to arrive before continuing to work on this 100% vector drawing. Rendered image on top, vector outline below. Progress sequence in my portfolio blog: https://communicats.blogspot.com/2022/11/continuing-jaguar-illustration-in.html
Update November 22 2022: Felt the urge to continue the project in spite of the unpleasant crash experiences on my very old computer (2004). I drew some reflections in the water and detailed the hair in the ear areas with the pen tool as Stuart RC suggested.
Update 24 November 2022: Started to draw the jag's fur texture in its face. The image below is downscaled and shows less accurate detail than the actual size. The old machine crashed only one time (....). Details and sequence images in my portfolio blog.
Update November 26 2022: Worked on the tail, the left eye that I enlarged slightly and began experimenting with the overall fur texture. I don't want a single pixel in this drawing; it must remain 100% vector. This means no 'vector' brushes, symbols and patterns are included, since they do not contain real vectors. I temporarily used the Styles function in just one shape, but that is to observe the result. Later I will use a method that exclusively involves pure vector shapes and strokes in a specific way. I may probably have to wait until the more powerful computer, that I ordered, arrives to successfully draw the jag's fur texture.

    Below is the previous stage.

Below is the vector outline view of one of the most recent stages.

I'm relatively new to illustration and Affinity and this is my first image upload (1500x2000 px jpg image). I used Designer v2 to create this illustration of my custom-built classical guitar and thought it came out fairly well, given my very limited experience and familiarity with the program. I still have a tremendous amount to learn about illustration and Designer, but I'm having fun doing it. I'm a long-time photographer and photo editor, but illustration is a whole new ballgame, as I am discovering. As a photographer, I paid attention to lighting, highlights, shadows, reflections, etc, but those elements were already pre-existing in a photo and I could easily enhance them, as desired. In illustration, I have to create these elements myself, which I have found forces me to pay much more attention to highlights, shadows and reflections. It makes me appreciate how important these elements are to form, depth and realism. It's quite an education, and will no doubt make me a better photographer and photo editor too.
I'm very open to any suggestions and constructive criticisms. I want to get better at illustration. So, if you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

I've always loved the design and scale of some of the crop circles. Who cares how they ended up in some poor farmer's field. It has been a hobby of mine to rejig the phenomenon in Affinity Designer. Now V2 is out I'm looking fwd to new versions. Let me know what you think

I took a photo of this particular homestead in Cades Cove at Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee, USA. My photo looked very dark and dull as it was quite foggy and misty. I created this scene as a vector drawing, then added brush work in Pixel layers.
I took a couple of liberties to make it brighter and less foggy. My wife wanted smoke from chimney of building on far right and so I added some. These homesteads here are not active and would not have any smoke.

Yeah I know, I'm lazy but that's all I'm doing (probably), it's fiddly. I wanted to see how her face would turn out. She recognised it, so that's something!

Nice job @dannyg9. I had to redraw some of the white stripes on navy guy above and I know from others I have done about trying to fix areas like your plaid jackets can be tedious. Having to do tile walls and floors for example too or rug patterns, etc.

Ha, ha! I don’t mind the critique, @Giovanni Pietri. I had no say in the design at all. I just created what was already designed by someone else as they provided. It is also very difficult to change if the menu changes much at all. Could cause a major do-over and headache for sure. I just posted this to show some of what Publisher can do along with photo and designer. Something I haven’t seen from anyone else. It actually doesn’t look too bad when printed and folded. Many other pizza/sub style businesses in the area here, have menus that look very similar in design.

stojames got a reaction from dannyg9 in Diner logo and wall jukebox, designer vector
Wife and I went to a 50’s style diner (Bel Air) and they had a wall jukebox (brought back old memories of playing music on jukeboxes) at our booth. I took a photo of it and their logo signs. I thought I would try creating vector images of their logo and the wall jukebox. I put all the song text inside the jukebox. The letter and number keys really were not perfectly the same. The cards inside the jukebox with the song titles were in rough shape (I didn’t try to duplicate that). I then created a counter with stools and root beer floats and a neon style Diner sign to add something extra.

    Hope somebody likes it.
