Exactly and as far as I remember Darktable also applies open source camera specific colour profiles, open source camera specific noise profiles to RAW images (if you enable these features) and even more. Darktable is an open source program that glues other open source components together in a very transparent way. Impressive work made outside labs by volunteers for free. They only need the magic extras that big companies and their research and specialists provide in DxO, Capture One and Photoshop of course. "Serif Labs Raw Engine" ... Labs? RAW engine? Adobe engineers made their own RAW engine, DxO engineers made their astounding RAW engine. There is no real advantage in opening RAW files in AP. I wonder how many open source components they glued together and sold me.

Compared to Photoshop (latest version) it is obvious that the new HSL L control desaturates the colours. Even in 8-bit mode.

No, sorry, I was just joking. DrawPlus is no longer supported, it works just fine, but some day in the future it wont. I guess it will work for years, but I is a weird situation, is it not? That you have to go back in time to get a decent design program from Serif. I like to draw and design shapes with the pen tool in Affinity Designer. Problem is, the second you fx need to add some perspective to a shape (fx a shape from another project), Affinity Designer is next to useless. Especially if time has any value for you. Serif focused so much on isometric grids they forgot the basics of drawing and workflows. What I did was to export a shape to SVG and into DrawPlus to finish it there. Then I exported it back to Affinity Designer. It is not unusual for designers to construct shapes outside Adobe Illustrator in other programs so I had tried it before. It is just silly in this case. But it was just me monkeying around in my spare time. They money I spend on Serif software was earned using Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. I am always curious when a newcomer enters the market, but in this case the complex parts of the machinery is only "promised" features on a roadmap - not reality. Serif retired the software that could help you - replaced it with AD that can't for years to come? You can do what I did or what @Checkmate did. Or look for other options.

It is amusing that you are requesting and waiting for this feature that is available in an even cheaper program developed by a company... heard about it? Serif Software. They abandoned it so you could wait all over for similar features for years. It is not supported anymore - but chances are... it will support your workflow. Works like a charm on Windows 10. Reintroducing Serif Drawplus X8 from 2015 featuring: Envelope tool Distortion tool Roughen tool Knife tool Replicate tool Blend tool Palette designer Mesh fill Support for multiple pages Erase tool Flood fill tool I suspect that this was possible with the help of Microsoft technology (code libraries that Serif had to purchase licenses for) - and that Serif must to develop these features from the bottom and up now. Perhaps. Personally I don't expect to see any of these features before version 2.0. When? 2021? The roadmap is just promises. I suspect someone also had a roadmap for Brexit... Anyway - purchase the good not so old performer Drawplus X8 from Serif right here

I couldn't find any posts about this. You are probably aware of it but here goes: Windows 10 Professional. Latest beta 1.7 build of Publisher (206), Designer and Photo (206). The icon in the title bar suffers from jagged edges and doesn't look right. My Windows installation is "out of the box" ish - app font size is 100% fx. Icon was fine in earlier builds, I think.

The new icons are fine as icons and logos. Start creating with the software.

You are right. It does nothing whatsoever in LAB mode (Windows). BUG! It works in 1.6.5 - so it is a regression.

Rewriting features and replacing old ones (and pixels with percent) is confusing. It not great that he has to come here with questions and for work arounds (he has to remember) either. Why not name these methods and give users a choice, like in Capture Pro: Then you can even add presets or additional methods in later versions of Photo.

Photo Beta 1.7.0.178, Windows build on Windows 10 Pro Affected: RAW develop module Observed: Imported image from Panasonic micro four thirds camera does not benefit much from detail refinement. At full strength with a proper radius the image is only a wee bit more sharp than a RAW image imported in Adobe Camera RAW 11 with NO sharpening applied. Third example below shows same image in Adobe Camera RAW with just the default sharpening applied - and even a bit of masking. Note: The demosaic code in use in Affinity Photo (I assume you are using the open source UFRaw, results are similar) render images slightly blurred and does not enhance details much. Perhaps as a result of this Below: Same image developed in Photo with no detail refinement in RAW - now tried with 1px radius unsharp mask applied, factor 2.4 (a lot). 0.8px is probably a bettter setting but still - image suffered from a poor demosaic technology. The unsharp mask had less to work with. "CITY" is not affected much by any radius. Below: Last example: Left totally unsharpened Nikon RAW image (from expensive, SHARP macro lens) from Camera RAW 11. Right same totally unsharpened Nikon RAW image i Affinity Photo ... and from the Nikon OOC JPG with just a little sharpening for comparison.. ... DxO Photolab 1 with no sharpening (but with lens modules (standard)) for comparison Capture One vs Affinity Photo Top: Unsharpened and sharpened a bit. Nice micro contrast and well defined edges. There is even noise reduction included. (Capture One Pro) Bottom: Unsharpened, sharpened a bit and massively sharpened. Radius is the same but I have to push the factor slider far too much. This causes artifacts on the rest of the image. (Affinity Photo) Disclaimer: To be honest - normally pixel peeping is for amateurs. What matters is the image as a whole on paper or screen. Sometimes you need the details though - and heavily cropped images (sometimes you have to) will look worse than images from other RAW converters. A little smartphonish. And a more effective demosaic would give sharpening tools a little more to work with - images will be sharpened more naturally. Especially minor details. I am not after the sharpest demosaic method on the market - I am concerned about the rendering of the image, thats why I use Capture One Pro myself, but in Affinity Photo RAW images are undercooked by... UFRaw?

Welcome to software development. Dependencies and architecture. Many feature requests are accompanied by a handful of changes to the architecture. Thats why we design and prepare the core for the future as far as is humanly possible. Smart thinking early means more fun later. But remember that developers don't run the company. Business decisions counts. We are in fact scaling projects up massively when needed - and down after release - otherwise we could never deliver certain features before we retire. That also means that we get input and insights from new architects and programmers and user experience designers from time to time. Serif published a road map. What I would like to know if it is their business strategy to develop many projects simultaneously with limited resources thus lettings us wait for many years for whatever is listed on their OWN PUBLIC road map. If they know we have to wait a decade - tell us. Or remove the road map entirely. Waiting four to six years or more?? in the dark is pointless. I enjoy the user interface very much - and the new approach to some features - but they years of waiting with no solution in sight killed my enthusiasm.

I am employed in a huge software company - I do know about iterations and complexity. Especially the role of architecture. I also know about a fact - we secured our always growing market share by delivering and in the right order I might add. Giving our customers a plate but letting them wait for fork, knife and spoon certainly never was an option. Temporarily scaling projects up did make more sense - when needed. "Bear with us" is a no go in communication with customers. After a number of years with hard work and late nights at work we are harvesting. Several users here aired concern about the size of Serif and the number of software projects they are working on - when Publisher is released fx, will Serif work on an iPad version too? Sure they will. Publisher, Designer, Photo for Windows, iOS and OS X. A mouthful too big. Complexity of architecture is a minor factor compared to the complexity caused by limited resources and too many projects.

Ehm, I was referring to his very simple cutting example (break curve). I did not in any way discus how Serif will implement the knife tool. I need support for most of the the knife cutting scenarios you described. It simply accelerates and simplifies work flows (and reduces cost - customers tend to like that, business survival relies on it). Let's see if 2019 or 2020 or 2021 will be the year of the knife tool.
