  1. It sounds as though you should be able to achieve your goal with a simple bit of masking, but what do you mean by “splash of”? It would probably be helpful if you could post examples of the image and the run of text that you’re working with. Please also let us know which Affinity app(s) you have.
  2. Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Nikolaus. The Context toolbar options for the Clone Brush Tool include an ‘Aligned’ setting which determines whether the sample origin moves or not.
  3. Good point! I was thinking about the tools in general, including those that are used to alter selected layers/objects, rather than the object creation tools in particular.
  4. That’s what I thought, Thomas, but Lenette said “It's no difference with or without a document open.”
  5. “Learner Appreciation Sale ends today” Here’s a link to just one of numerous options: https://www.udemy.com/course/affinity-photo-2-solid-foundations/
  6. I’m confused, @Lenette! Your previous screenshot shows all the tools greyed out, but in the latest one they’re in full glorious Technicolor.
  7. There’s no need to rely on your memory! The ‘See their activity’ button on your profile page invokes a list of all your posts: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/profile/178302-lphilpot/content/ Alternatively, use the search box on any forum page to search ‘Everywhere’ for posts on the topic, and then use the ‘More search options’ button to access the ‘Search By Author’ text box: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&q=Floating&quick=1&author=lphilpot&search_and_or=and&sortby=relevancy
  8. You can only choose tools that are applicable to the selected layer(s) in the current document, so you need to create or open a document.
  9. Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Cheshire. If you use the Rectangle Tool to create a rectangle of a suitable size and position it on top of the photo, you should see controls (both on the shape itself and on the Context Toolbar while the shape is selected) for adjusting the roundness of the corners. The photo is very slightly rotated, with the top left-hand corner lower than the top right-hand corner, so you’ll also need to rotate either the rectangle or the photo before cropping. Once the rounded rectangle is exactly covering the photo, go to the Layers panel and drag the rectangle layer onto the thumbnail of the photo layer. By the way (not that it matters in this particular instance) in general it’s a good idea to state which Affinity app you’re using.
  10. Firstly, A4 is 210 mm × 297 mm, not 210 mm × 296 mm: the short side of A5 is 148 mm instead of 148.5 mm because half millimetres in the A series are discarded when you progress from one size to the next size down. Secondly, the 3 mm bleed is there precisely(!) because trimming is never going to be accurate to the nearest millimetre; likewise, a consumer-grade printer’s paper feed isn’t guaranteed to give you exactly the same margins from one sheet of paper to the next, even if you ignore the effects of temperature and humidity on the dimensions and smoothness of each sheet.
  11. This thread is in the ‘Feedback for the Affinity V1 Products [ARCHIVE]’ section of the forums. A new V2 thread is more likely to attract attention.
  12. If you prefer not to share it publicly you’ll need to wait for @NathanC to provide a private Dropbox link, but otherwise attaching a 90 MB file to a forum post shouldn’t pose any problems.
  13. For some of us it’s not merely strenuous. On my Windows laptop the LMB and RMB switches are covered by a single strip of hard plastic, so it’s impossible to press both at the same time.
  14. While it may be available for free from unofficial sources, FF Scratch is (like other fonts from the FontFont foundry) a commercial font, and quite an expensive one!
  15. If you’re selecting the shape with the Move Tool, switch to one of the Shape Tools and try again.
  16. Kerning determines the space between a single pair of characters, not multiple characters in a word. Do you mean tracking?
  17. As noted above, this feature isn’t available on Windows.
  18. I agree. Looking at that distinctive cloud formation, I’d say there’s probably an overlap of only 10% or so. While you might not need as much as 30%, anything less than 20% or 25% is unlikely to work for images with so much sea and sky. The shift in the horizon is also likely to work against you.
  19. If you’re using the MAS version and you don’t have a Time Machine (or similar) backup, I think you’re out of luck. If you’re using the Affinity Store version, you can download the DMG file via the relevant link on one of the following pages: https://store.serif.com/update/macos/designer/2 https://store.serif.com/update/macos/photo/2 https://store.serif.com/update/macos/publisher/2
  20. Please see: http://luc.devroye.org/fonts-34582.html Here’s the relevant portion of the text on the above web page: In other words, there are no glyphs mapped to the standard alphanumeric characters, so you’re seeing a fallback font (probably Arial rather than Helvetica). Instead of typing your text you would need to use the Glyph Browser.
  21. Wouldn’t you expect “German” to have a wiggly underline, too?
