silverdust got a reaction from Alfred in Erase and contrast negate
I can but the 2 reasons why I'm not doing so is 1) These circles are just a contrived example. In the real case, one of the circles is a group of shapes that make up a logo. Clicking it against the single circle does not allow the combine feature since it's a group. 2) I would like to repeat this same thing with mix-blend-mode on the web so I wanted to know how best to achieve this with affinity blend modes.

Instead of messing around with blend modes, can’t you simply use the ‘Xor’ (aka ‘Combine’) Geometry command?

silverdust reacted to Jim Jerry in The shape builder tool
Hey guys, my name is Fin
Well, I will not mention the other program .... but if there is one thing that they do and I miss in affinity designer , that is the shape builder tool.
I'm sure that I'm not the first one to ask this, but it is almost essential for some of us.
keep doing the great work.

Thank you in advance

You can also draw your shape, then click 'Insert inside the selection' and then 'File>Place' your image and click and drag the image inside the shape - this method leaves you with an image you can still select and re-scale within the shape.

Sort of, make your shape, place an image on the page. Now in the layers pallet drag the image into the shape. Helps if you align and adjust the sizes first on the page.

Designer doesn't (yet, at least) have Picture Frames.
However, you should be able to
draw your rectangle, then use File > Place to add your image as a layer above the rectangle, dragging the cursor to make the image the size you want, then using the Layers panel, nest the image into the rectangle. That will clip the image to the size of the rectangle. You can then click on the image with the Move Tool and slide it around within the rectangle.

silverdust reacted to toltec in Slicing curve
If it's a simple circle, you could subtract using boolean operations but I'm guessing it is full of cheese and stuff. (Damn, I'm hungry now)
I think it best to make masking shapes. Unless someone has a better idea?
You will have to keep making slicer layers and rotating and masking to slice the pizza.

silverdust reacted to R C-R in Inconsistent snapping to center and middle
If I understand what you mean about vertical and horizontal centers correctly, these are the snapping options you want checked:
Margins are self explanatory; "spread" is equivalent to canvas or artboard size.

silverdust reacted to R C-R in Convert text to curve
You can also use the Break Curve action for this, but keep in mind two things:
1. You can only break a curve at an existing node (so you may need to add one or more nodes to break the curve where you want).
2. The action only works on one node at a time, so to break a closed shape into two parts, you will have to select two nodes, one at a time, & break the curve at each of them.
You don't necessarily need to close the open curves this creates. Below, I broke the Arial font S at the two nodes indicated by the red circles.
Closing either one of the two resultant curves will eliminate the gap Alfred mentioned.

Alternatively, conceal the gap by curving one of the 'join' lines with the Node Tool to make it overlap the other one.

In Affinity Designer, select the text object with the Move tool & choose "Convert to Curves" from the Layer Menu.

You can also use the Context Menu, but you will have to Ctrl + click the entire text frame with the Move Tool, not the entered text itself with one of the text tools.

silverdust reacted to gdenby in Vintage/Faded style paint
Hey, Silverdust,
Bunch of ways to do this. Here's a quick illustration of what I came up w.:
Couple of vector objects, and a couple of copies of a pixel object nested in them, with blend set to erase.
May not be quite what you need, but perhaps work in that direction.

Very Distressing.
At least thats what it's called. "Distressing".
Find a black and white image for the texture. Place it on a layer above the logo layer and go Layer > Rasterize to Mask and there will be holes in your logo.

silverdust got a reaction from malyKeri in Different rounded corners and image adjustment to shape
I can add corners to a rectangle but what if I want to only add it to some corners of the rectangle and not all corners? How may I go about this? Also, if I have an image which I'd like to take the shape of some shape I've created. Maybe for a rounded image inside a circle or whatever other shaped I'd drawn, how can this be done? Using AD to prototype a web app and I find myself needing these things

silverdust reacted to Alfred in Blend pattern into color
Position the face image on top of the texture image and experiment with the various blend modes (applied to the upper layer) in the Layers panel. 'Overlay' is an obvious choice, but 'Multiply' and 'Hard Light' can also yield good results.

I've been thinking of spending a summer in Cuba and I drew this. Sometimes you go to places before actually being there

silverdust reacted to Alfred in Text archs
You can create text on a path in Affinity Designer – see the Vimeo link in my first post to this thread – but not in Affinity Photo. Affinity Designer still doesn't have a Mesh Warp/Distortion Tool, but it's on the 1.x roadmap.

silverdust reacted to R C-R in Pay for Affinity without App Store
You can buy physical iTunes Gift Cards in many bricks & mortar stores in the U.S., including many grocery & pharmacy chain stores. Look for a rack with gift cards from many vendors somewhere in the store or ask an employee. They come in fixed denominations of $15, $25, $30, $50, & $100.
For the physical cards, you don't even have to type in the redemption code: in iTunes on a Mac, just follow the instructions to hold up the card to the camera & it will read the code from the card.

This was on Apple.com although it's the UK page.
Give the gift of
iTunes and Apple Music.
When you give iTunes Gift Cards and iTunes Gifts to friends and family, they can choose whatever they want from the App Store on their devices, as well as the iTunes Store and iBooks Store. And with Apple Music Gift Cards, you can give a 3-month or 12-month subscription.

Thanks so much everyone. I'll give the Giftcards a try and see if that works. Was good to have voiced out for these great suggestions
