The one thing I was really looking forward to in the 2.1 release of Publisher were the long awaited cross references. It seems it didn't make it into the final release. Still, never mind. I love the running headers. Mind you considering PagePlus X9 had problems with cross references, maybe the wait will be worth it. Hopefully they will add captions and tables of figures as well. That would provide a really powerful facility.

Downloading extra fonts
Archangel replied to Adrian Collett's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Congratulations, the static fonts are downloaded with the variable fonts but are in the static sub-directory. -

Well if you downloaded the font into a download folder and unzipped it. you should be OK to right click on the filename of the otf or ttf file to install it on windows with the context menu option. I just tried it and windows installed the files correctly. -
This is not a silly request. Adding this sort of functionality to a suite of applications which includes all you need for creating print publications is really a sensible idea. Implementation of a full font editor persona into Affinity would perhaps be preferable to simply allowing a basic export of designer vectors into a simple font file. However, it sounds like a major effort of system designer and programmer time to implement it in a high quality and professional manner. If it were successfully implemented then Affinity would become a suite with serious clout in the creative field much more than it currently has. Although the purchase price of the software would also have to increase substantially. Plugin support maybe the way to go for this to allow third party programs to fill the gap.

multi 1950s-style ‘Creature Feature’ movie title still experiments
Archangel replied to GarryP's topic in Share your work
Sounds like a very interesting premise for a movie. A sort of proto-demonic ASMR dystopian future? Or film linked to a range of sweets or popping candy? Other interpretations may be available. -
multi 1950s-style ‘Creature Feature’ movie title still experiments
Archangel replied to GarryP's topic in Share your work
Very evocative of the era. My parents used to watch reruns of these types of movies on late-night TV in the early 1970's. I was reared on vintage horror and science fiction films. To be honest they were no scarier than Grimm's Fairytales. Great Job. -
affinity publisher Affinity Publisher v2 Justify Left
Archangel replied to Archangel's topic in V2 Bugs found on Windows
Fascinating and extremely curious. It does appear to be related to the optical justification issue using the font setting. Although turning it off for all paragraphs creates its own open quote glitch.- 4 replies

Running Affinity Publisher 2 v2.04 on Windows 10. I copied some text from Microsoft Word (a story I have written). I wanted to see how Affinity handled the warning to readers. Experimenting with type sizes using the Verdana font I noticed an anomaly in the second paragraph at 16 points. I'm not sure why this justification glitch is happening. Please look at the image and afpub file to see if this is a known issue. Other point sizes justify correctly. Although full justification looks quite odd. Stoneydale justify left.afpub

2023 Pantone Colors
Archangel replied to Jakub Trybowski's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Not exactly a solution to spot colour matching but this might be a useful freeware tool for Windows and Mac users. Seems to work with different colour spaces. https://annystudio.com/software/colorpicker/ And this might be useful for Digital Artists rather than print artists. https://yeun.github.io/open-color/ -
2023 Pantone Colors
Archangel replied to Jakub Trybowski's topic in Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Time for an alternative colour matching scheme to compete with Pantone. Open source would be best much as Ghostscript did for Postscript. Everyone would benefit and Pantone would no longer have a monopoly on the colour matching environment. -
Thanks, @walt.farrellI didn't know that. I was wondering if there might be any possibility of supporting Word-perfect files. I know it's not as widespread use as Word but many legal professionals still use it. Although Corel has its brand of DTP software so maybe adding support in Affinity Publisher would not be a lucrative prospect.

I would love Affinity Publisher to import open document format files as well as the Docx format. I know Microsoft has taken over the world with their brand of office software but the main open-source suites should possibly be supported as well. Rich Text Format might also be useful. Yes, we can save from Libre Office as Docx but risk losing information in the transfer. Thanks again for the great software.

At least you had decent DTP software on your platform with its hi-res mono graphics. A very underrated platform the ST. It did well in the music industry and low-end DTP. Amiga had gotten got the video market sewn up but played second fiddle to the ST in the music field. Although the Amiga did well with multitasking.

I must admit I miss Proper Grammar II by Softwood on the Amiga. It was the only decent grammar checker on that platform. It was incorporated into Final Writer though. Really with the advent of deep learning algorithms, I would assume that an AI Editor will not be too far away. Whether that will be offline, however, will remain to be seen.

I was thinking of Publisher in particular. Although the thesaurus facility would be useful in Photo and Designer. Not so much the grammar checker perhaps. Although Artistic Text might benefit from a Grammar Checker as well.
