hi @Ash  I tested and wanted to thank you for this massive improvement

I use pencil tool every day and this was one of the most game changer feature for illustrators like me,

Also I'm really happy to see these tools getting attention.

I did a video to show my followers how affinity is getting better and better

    1. And I hate it that the end points often get moved together. It's a real trial and error clicking them and hoping you can get to move just one of them.
    2. Also, when you make a steep curve profile with a high peak or low valley, it can be that you can't actually double click to add a pressure point in the graph, because it is out of view.
    3. Could the option be added that the graph is not an interpolate curve? I'd like to specify on a per point basis whether it's a linear or smooth pressure transition.
    4. If the panel ends up being reworked, please add the reset pressure button to the strole panel immediately? That'll save lots of clicks, especially if you can reset multiple curves this way at once. Perhaps adding a reset shortcut could also be added?
    5. Will the bug that strokes cannot be expanded when they have a pressure curve applied (i.e. the pressure curve is omitted and treated as single width) also be fixed?
That said, I'm really happy to finally see this tool. It's been on the top of my wish list for a long time! 🥳🎉

MattP reacted to Bryan Rieger in Line Width Tool
Oh, that does help, but it's not overly intuitive as there's no indication in the appearance panel that the stroke has a width profile associated with it. Perhaps adding another attribute such as 'Profile' (see mockup below) could help to indicate that the stroke has additional width/profile data associated with it?

Addendum: I added a few more thoughts on the overall stroke width 'Profile' UX in another post.

Just had a quick preview!.. Wow! You have been busy!. This is a great addition and personally going to have a lot of fun with it....
    a. One small thing related is that I noticed.. Adding the tool option for this (Combined) has a tooltip just for pencil and not the multiple option. I believe this applies to a number of the drag > toolbar multiple tool options.. To get the correct tool (with the growing number!) is trial and error now.. Could the tooltips be amended to reflect the combined tool options?
    b. Agree with @Frozen Death Knight that the panels should eventually be updated to reflect the improvements!
    c. Like the way the profile graph can be edited to reflect the line width

    Apps: Designer
    Platforms: macOS, Windows and iPad
Affinity Designer now includes a new width tool which is available by default alongside the pencil tool in your toolbar:

The Line Width Tool gives you an on-document way of editing the pressure profile of any curve. For example the curve below has 3 pressure points (5 including the start and end pressure). While in the Line Width tool the position of those points are shown along the curve, and you have the ability to drag to change the width and position of them.
You can also click to add a new pressure point, or double click to remove any pressure point on a curve.

There are various modifiers available which you can see in the status bar:
Shift + Drag - allows you to modify the width at any point without adjusting it's position
Cmd (Mac) / Ctrl (Win) + Click - manually enter the width required at the chosen point
Ctrl (Mac) / Ctrl (Win) + Drag - move the point position without adjusting the width
Double click - remove pressure point
Additionally you will find some other options in the context toolbar when using this tool:

Adjust Line Weight - if this is turned on then should you drag the width of any point to be greater than the current line width (i.e. greater than 100% pressure) the line width will be increased to allow you to drag the width unrestricted. If it is turned off then the maximum width you can drag to is 100% of the set line width.
Allow point reordering - This option allows to you to specify whether you want to allow the tool to drag one point past another along the curve, effectively swapping their order, or not.
Snap to curve nodes - This will show any nodes on the curve as small white dots and will snap any pressure points to those nodes
Snap to widths on same curve - this will snap the width at any pressure point on a curve to other widths which already exist on that curve. This only applies when holding shift (i.e. you are adjusting the width without altering the point position).
Snap to curve geometry - this will snap the width to the geometry of any selected curves (again if you are holding shift).

We've had a query about what is viewed as 'acceptable' content, and what our stance on it is.

This topic is one which is typically fairly volatile because everyone is so different and what is acceptable for one person, can be shocking or inflammatory to another. We don't want everyone to feel cautious about what they click, just in case they are faced with something they'd rather not see, but we also don't want to discourage people from sharing the amazing work they've been creating, so... We think the simplest, clearest thing to do is:

If you think your image could in any way be described as controversial...

    - Start a new topic with an appropriate title
    - Upload your image to a sharing site (Flickr, Behance, Instagram, etc) - you can even use the 'Share' link in the app's File menu
    - Write a proper description of your work in the body of your post and add a text link to the image you have shared

Now, if people think they'd be offended, they just don't have to click the link and they won't see it at all.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Hmmm, interesting to see that script Paolo, thanks :) I'm sure we could get a very basic support quite easily - but people would expect it to be far more than basic if we officially tried to support it, and that may prove to be very time-consuming... Perhaps it's something we can consider for the future...

MattP got a reaction from Intuos5 in Affinity, we need clarification: are you or aren’t you working on a DAM?
I know I'm arriving at this party very late (because I didn't see it until now...) but nobody is trying to 'not answer' anything and there are no 'difficult questions' - there are only questions that some moderators may not know the answer to as they're not privy to all information. I'll say this: I'm sitting next to the guys that are writing the DAM... It's a thing.

    Hello and greetings to all.
This is more an idea in progress than a finished piece. Inspired after seeing a small wooden carving from Poland (see inset pic).

Thanks also to the industrious hardworking Serif teams and forum support staff.

Thanks Bob. I appreciate it probably doesn’t make much sense if you’re not familiar with Brighton in the UK. I guess I meant that the city has been anthropomorphised into a human character. For example, her dress represents the beach (sequins are pebbles, the skirt represents the sea, and the belt is the ruins of a famous pier stranded off the coast). Her crown is the dome of the Brighton Pavilion, her halo is another landmark - the Hove bandstand. Her ice cream is identical to the helter skelter on the end of Brighton pier, the hem of her shroud are the promenade railings, etc. (As I say, there are 33 of these…)

New work - Our Lady of Brighthelmstone.
This was my recent submission for a call to artists put out by a new gallery opening in the city of Brighton & Hove - sadly rejected.
The theme was metamorphosis, so I painted the city morphed into a fabulous drag queen, in the style of an Uber-kitsch religious painting (taking “Our Lady of Guadeloupe” as my main inspiration - Brighthelmstone is the old name for the city of Brighton).
There are a total of 33 visual “easter eggs” contained within the picture, some architectural, some cultural. If any of you are familiar with the place, have fun spotting them!
