  1. I have noticed the 'Add' feature is also broken and does the same thing when combining shapes. The bug is probably related. I have attached a file. Try expanding only the topmost stroke, then combine it to the top shape. You will see a very similar problem where it fills the right area of the combined shape. My guess is in both cases, where the intersection happens, you are forgetting to create a node (or point). rig-icon.afdesign
  2. I'm beginning to think they can't actually add this feature as it is very complex. They probably need to hire a mathematician who specializes in vectors.
  3. I'm experiencing the same issue. This is a pretty serious problem. It makes the software almost unusable as I use this feature a lot. It's especially problematic when designing at smaller sizes. For example, when I am designing icons, the expand stroke feature is ridiculously bad. I can not use Affinity Designer for designing symbols or icons. Yes it's that bad. Please fix it soon.
  4. Has the Affinity team considered looking at the Inkscape repo to see how they have implemented envelope / distort. It is after all an open source project. You could probably glean some ideas there.
  5. I've run into this problem a couple times now using Affiinity Designer 1.6.1 where it renders a duplicate set of artboards on zoom in and out. They appear briefly while zooming in and out, then disappear. It seems to be fine after I restart the app. I got into this state as I shut off my Mac without closing Affinity Designer. Then after restarting my Mac, Affinity Designer reopened and I got into this strange state. This also happens sometimes while I am just using the app. I'm running macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 on a Macbook Pro (Retina, Retina 13-inch, Early 2015). 16GB Ram, 2.7 GHz Intel core i5 (Benq SW2700pt external display, via HDMI). See posted video. affinity_designer_zoom_bug.m4v
  6. @davemike Well I guess Adobe can take your money and run with it (that's what they did to me). Even after leaving Adobe, they offered me 3 months of creative suite for free. After my 3 free months were up they didn't actually cancel my subscription as I assumed they would. No, they actually started started billing me again and never reimbursed me (criminal). Personally, I'll wait until this summer for Affinity Publisher. Good bye Adobe.
  7. I've noticed crashes happen for me when I'm editing a symbol on an artboard, and then move the symbol off the artboard (AF beta 4). I'm using El Capitan 10.11.5
  8. I don't think the problem is the magic mouse. I have a magic mouse 1 and 2. When I use Illustrator I don't have the same problem. I think Illustrator has permanently turned down the fidelity though. Panning in Illustrator is not smooth, and it shifts in about 5px increments. However, my solution is to turn the panning fidelity down ONLY on mouse down (like Illustrator). Turn the fidelity back up on mouse up. I don't know if this is possible, but obviously this is not a big problem in Illustrator. I still love your product though.
  9. It would be nice to have an option in the transform panel to rotate relative to the shape or rotate relative to the rotation centre.
  10. I'm using Affinity Designer 1.4.2 and I could not figure out how to edit a group. I double clicked the group to no avail. Finally I realized that I actually could edit the group, but there was no visual cue to tell me that I was in edit mode. I think having a greyed out transparent background would be helpful (similar to Adobe Illustrator's isolation mode). This would tell me that I'm now able to edit the group.
  11. I'm not sure if AD uses SVG as it's default file format, but the <symbol> definition is pretty easy to implement. Here is a quick example: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/SVG/Element/symbol
  12. It would be nice if AD could create interactive prototypes for wire frameing. This could be handled by attaching actions to objects and then turning on / off certain layers. You could also allow the action to go to a different page or artboard (I know artboards are still coming). You could export the whole thing as an interactive SVG for viewing in a browser, or export as html. As many designers use multiple tools to handle this already, you would be doing everyone a service by combining all the tools in one. Just my opinion.
  13. +1 for me. Global swatches are very useful for UI design (especially true when you have multiple art boards).
  14. That's excellent news Dave. It should reduce the number of complaints for sure. Good to see Affinity is focusing on the fine details. Very important when building large scale products.
  15. I'm not sure if this makes sense, but you could add some basic 3D options to Affinity Designer. I noticed you have 3D in your DrawPlus program. Or it might make more sense to have a separate 3D program. Anyway, it's just a thought.
  16. Wow, some people feel very strongly about having a lighter UI. If it's any consolation, I like the dark interface and it actually performs better with accessibility. However, given the number of disgruntled customers here, you should probably add a light theme. I would also like to add that Adobes default interface sports a dark UI, and I'm guessing that was done for accessibility, not because someone it was someones favourite colour.
  17. Great, that will probably help your usability.
  18. I have the beta version also (1.1.2.23308). I have not been able to figure out how to use the eyedropper to transfer styles as Gatada has mentioned.
  19. Good point ronnyb. The tool could also be buried in a submenu similar to what Adobe does, but I also prefer to use modifier keys.
  20. Yes ronnyb, I agree with you. It seems like strange behaviour to me, but then again what do I know. I'm sure we're not the only ones who think this. I'm sure the folks at Affinity will figure it out.
  21. Petar, I'm not sure I understand you statement "text would diminish by the outline width". I assume you mean that the letters will lose some of their width (or appear lighter) when you add a stroke around them. For this reason I think the Affinity developers should add the default width to the outside of the letter or send the stroke behind the fill. Petar, did you realize that stroking the text is a feature that exists already? I'm just curious because I was unaware of this until the Affinty developers told me how to do this. To the Affinty developers, I initially highlighted the word with the text tool and looked to change the stroke effects on the TOPBAR. Hope this helps.
  22. You guys are even more awesome than I initially thought.
  23. Yes, sorry for my negative comment. I realize what I'm suggesting would not be very discoverable by users. However I think this feature can be a learned thing as advanced users like myself don't even use this feature in illustrator. Would it be useful... absolutely. That being said, I am concerned about interface bloat. I think the developers at Affinity should consider customers comments, but I don't think we should drive the product. We can not see the whole roadmap, they can. And when it comes to new features they should be considerate of the interface and how to build it out. I'm sure the interface could get bloated very quickly, especially if they added every feature customers were asking for. I would rather see a clean, easy to use user interface where the features perform well, than a bloated, feature rich interface that breaks all the time. That is why I ask Affinity to carefully consider the roadmap. I hope that helps explain my point of view.
  24. Hmmm, ok so this is not very discoverable. I tried selecting an individual word and then used the colour swatch to add a stroke. Nothing. Then I realized I needed to actually add a stroke... whola! You should probably add a default width to the stroke of text when users choose a colour (either 1px or the last stroke setting they used). However, if the last stroke setting they used was "none" then I guess users wouldn't see anything. So for that reason you should probably default to 1px. Otherwise people like me will think the feature doesn't exist. Great work so far guys.
  25. Awesome! This seems like a small thing, but I'm sure many people besides myself will find it very useful. If you've ever tried to do interface design without a table tool you would realize how tedious this can be.
