  1. If when Exporting or Saving a file from Affinity 2.6.3 on Windows, you receive one of the following errors:

'The file could not be created'

    'Can't find file name'

'Changes to the file are not allowed'

First check Windows Controlled Folder access, and check the Block History, you'll likely see that Affinity has been blocked.  If you click on 'Allow an app through Controlled Folder access', you'll be able to Add Affinity to the allowed list.  If you then try exporting, Affinity should export without error.

If you are running a 3rd party A/V software, you will need to add Affinity to its allowed list, you'll then be able to export.

  2. Hi @Stef71,

Can you try a basic reset of Affinity.  To do this, start Affinity while holding down the Ctrl key and you'll get shown a Clear User Data screen and 3 options will be selected and you can just click on Clear and Affinity will start as normal.  Now try using the app and let me know the results.

@Sarah the ColoristCan you try disabling hardware acceleration under Edit>Settings>Performance in Affinity, close Settings and you'll be asked to restart Affinity.  Once restarted, try your normal workflow and if you still encounter crashes, please start a New Thread and we can look into your issue separately.

  3. Hi @Michael Murray,

Can you save your EventViewer logs and i'll see if that helps point to where the issue is.

To get logs do the following:
    1. Open Windows Run (Windows Key + R) and type the following - eventvwr
    2. In the window that opens, select the Windows Logs drop-down list on the left and then Applications
    3. With the Applications logs selected, navigate to the right side of the window and select Save All Events As... and save them as .evtx (the default option).
    4. Upload the logs to our Dropbox here

If you can THEN repeat the above steps but at step 2, instead of selecting Applications, select System from the list and save those and upload to the link above.

  4. Hi @MyChemicalRomance3and Welcome to the Forums,

Which Nvidia card do you have?  There's some issues with the 50 series cards, which can be worked around by disabling Hardware Acceleration in Edit>Settings>Performance in Affinity.  Even if you don't have 50 series, it would be worth disabling that option and seeing if you still have any issues with Affinity.

I also just quickly tested this on my Windows laptop which has a Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti and with a brush over 4000 pixels and i didn't have any issues.

  5. Hi @bbiesele,

I've just quickly tested this on my Mac and i'm not having any issues exporting a panorama.

Where are your images stored that you trying to stitch?  Can you try a basic reset of Affinity and see if you still have the same trouble?  To reset Affinity, start it while holding down the Control key and you'll get shown a Clear User Data screen and 3 options will be ticked and you can just click on Clear.  Affinity will then load as normal.  Now try stitching an panorama and let me know the results.

  6. Hi @RogerF,

When you first installed Affinity Photo you likely downloaded the MSI/EXE version and then when you got prompted about the 2.6.3 update, you've then downloaded the MSIX version, which is why you have 2 versions installed.  The good news is its an easy fix!

If you open Settings in Windows and select Apps>Installed Apps you'll see a list of installs apps.  You should see Affinity Photo 2 listed twice.  You should see the installed size on the right, you'll need to uninstall the one that shows the smallest size as that will be the MSIX install (the MSI/EXE should show as 1.48GB or there abouts),  Once thats uninstalled, download the MSI/EXE version from here:
    https://store.serif.com/update/windows/photo/2/

and that will update as expected and leave you with 1 install of Affinity.

  7. Hi @Michael Murray,

I've been trying to replicate this here on 3 different Windows PCs and haven't been able to with the MSIX or MSI/EXE build of Affinity.

From the Errors, it does look like a permissions issues but i can't see how that would be related to the 2.6.3 update.

As a test, can you uninstall the MSIX version of 2.6.2 and install the MSI/EXE version and see if you get the same error?  You can download the MSI/EXE version from this link

layer key points, nothing seems to snap.

Try selecting the Node Tool or the Point Transform tool and then snapping, it should now work.

It is logged to get this information added to the Help file as it doesn't state this.

    layer geometry

This will work in the following situations:
When drawing a new object - either with the Pen or Quick Shape Tools

When resizing an object with the Move Tool - not when moving the object directly

When using the Node Tool to move nodes for a selected Curve object.

I need to make images pngs the exact size they appear are in Affinity Publisher. How do I do this? Then I can not reduce res in export pdf.

You can try right clicking on the image on the page in Publisher and selecting Rasterise but that will be rasterised to your documents DPI, so depending what that is, it may be best to open each image in Affinity Photo and resize the images to the needed size and export them.  Then place them on the page in Publisher.

If that still produces a larger PDF than you'd like, try lowering the JPG compression on the Export window and that should give you a smaller export.  I'd start by lowering the JPG compression option by 5 each time and checking the size and quality of the exported PDF.

  10. Hi @Michael Murray,

Before rolling back, can you see if your able to export a new blank document from Affinity?

I've tried your afphoto file in my 2.6.3 and its exporting fine here.  I did notice the error message in your first post has a different filename to the file you uploaded to the Forums, but i take it the file you did upload, gives the same error?

  11. Bonjour @Michel Lefebvre,

    ------

Please try starting Affinity while holding down the CTRL key and you'll get shown a Clear User Data screen and 3 options will be ticked.  If you can also tick the box for Disable Hardware Acceleration and then click on Clear.  Affinity will then load as normal.  Now try using the app and let me know the results.
