Sunset reacted to Jonopen in Rocket (with warp mesh example)
Hi, I thought I'd share this image, not because it's anything particularly special (it'll never fly!), but mainly to demonstrate a potential use for the Warp mesh tool when applied to a group of parallel lines. By adding nodes and moving them around the warp group, some interesting effects can be achived.
In other design apps a blend tool might be used to do this, but using 'Power duplicate' and 'Mesh warp', maybe goes someway towards help make simple 'blend' like effects easier. Obviously this is no substitute for a proper blend tool. (thanks!) 🙂

    Hi @kittyridge,
Welcome to the Affinity Forums & sorry to see you're having trouble!
I can confirm this issue is still logged with our development team, I will be sure to 'bump' this with your post here, to bring it to our devs attention once again.
    I hope this helps

Many thanks for providing these for me Hilary, I'll be sure to forward these to our team here for you now -  we've already made improvements and bug fixes for Warp Groups in the latest Designer beta (2.0.3) so hopefully this update should reduce the crashing behaviour.
If this issue returns for you, please don't hesitate to let me know here

Thank you for that, I could continue to warp with the node tool selected, but I noticed a few times that if you warp, then work with another element, then go back to warp, it changes the effect, as if it has a horizontal line through the letters and moves the top and lower halves of the letters in different ways.  BUT - good news, I have worked out that I just need to go through the layers to find the point where I left off, and now I can continue to warp nicely. I think I can see why it was spitting the letters, too.
An interesting first look at warp. The issue, of course, was when the program suddenly closed.
    Thank you for your advice.

Hi, I'm Hilary Hartigan, AKA sunset. I always said that when I retired I would buy a new (electric) piano. Yesterday hubby asked me which would I prefer, a piano or a Mac. Let's just say that the Mac will arrive in the next few days :) And, after working my way through Windows 3.1 to Windows 8.1.  I am going to be a complete novice with the Mac.

I'm a total fan of things Serif but I really need something new as 'I'm all scrapped out' (a CraftArtist expression) and I don't want to get left behind on a Windows-Shelf. This looks different and exciting and fresh. By trade I'm a part time lecturer (computing out in the community), a self employed publisher and designer (but looking to change tack), a family history researcher and recorder (nearly finished) and a lover of logic and order. I have a head overflowing with ideas  :D and tons of ambitions  :D . I hope that I can make a useful contribution  :)

    Hi there,
I'm Samantha. I've been using Adobe for many years before making the commitment to jump ship to Affinity products. With few exceptions, I have enjoyed the Affinity Suite! I'm happy to be relieved of my monthly obligation to Adobe. Affinity products are a viable alternative that I recommend to any graphic designer who asks about it.

Hi I'm Randall, New to photo editing of any kind.  Used to develop B/W film in the seventies.  I've had a long vacation from film.   For the last year I've been collecting Minolta technology.  Main focus for me is B/W film and I'm planning on using a DSLR to scan the negatives.  I'll be using Affinity Photo to convert the film negative files to positives and for editing.  Anything color will be direct from a Digital camera  I live in Minesota USA

I'm not a developer or software wizard, I'm an old typesetter who learned all the applications used by us users of printing and publishing software since the early 1980's.
I bought the 3 main Affinity applications and am just starting to work with them. I'm intending to walk away from Adobe forever when my current year's subscription ends next Spring. I've had an Adobe account since it began, but they've gone far beyond their original mission.
Please, why do I keep getting messages about the "sparkle-project"? I'm not a developer, I have no idea what this is all about, and I hope I never have to learn anything about this stuff, I just design books and use the best legal and least expensive software available to me.
    Thank you.

It's a long time since I last posted, I've been busy all through lockdown, using Affinity Designer and Photo everyday for creating content for a large charity website. All enjoyable, sensible work! But I've been a Serif customer for 12 years now, and this experiment with Affinity Photo and Twisted Brushes stems back to the days when a group of us just used to experiment and push boundaries. Using just three Twisted brushes, I first created the yellow shape on the left and thought it looked like an angry ostrich. Mmm. Better make another ostrich opposite - these brushes are great and create unexpected patterns when woven around the page. The second ostrich seemed to be recoiling from the first. Chosse a different brush and create fabulous foliage and some water. But it needed a story - so a third Twisted Brush creates a couple of rather supernatural beings who are trying to goad the two ostriches into a proper fight. I just loved what I could do with the brushes.

Anything is possible, I was working to a tight deadline, I hadn't done a flowchart since college in 1973 so I created my own symbols, it is possible I also flitted between my desktop Windows and my Macbook - all of which I love being able to do with Affinity. And, although I'm 'absolutely certain' that I opened the afdesigner file from the 'Open Recent' menu today - perhaps I didn't!
Thanks for checking and forwarding it to the developers. I've fixed what I needed to do, job is done ahead of schedule, I'm happy.

I can't find it now but there was a topic a year or two ago about this approach, some of which was devoted to using Affinity Photo macros to partially automate & simplify the process. Unfortunately, much like with my macro experiments there were problems getting that to work as well as we had hoped for.

I also believe that drop shadow is different from an outer shadow and comes in many variations. To recreate some things in Affinity I think about how they were created in DP, what we had there was a nicely packaged, user-friendly version of drop shadow creation. Here is my view on how to replicate it in Affinity - using copy, colour, shear and a little gaussian blur if appropriate.

If you're sitting comfortably.....the MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display. It had to be a laptop because my workhorse souped up desktop with decent sized monitor will still be my office computer, and I couldn't work with a smaller screen.

And it's going to have to pay for itself, that's my motivation. I have a niece who designs and sells to Liberty, etc etc, so I have something to work towards (and we'll be able to discuss Macs, now). Also, I'll never give up CraftArtist but I'm well into the stage where I want to be working with my own original designs (aspirations for the DT shop??).

Virginia Woolf famously said  'a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction' - this is what I've bought, a room of my own to create graphics. Can you tell that I'm excited  :D  :D  :D ?

A rare chance, lately, to just be creative for half an hour. The result if a mix of two of my photographs - the Albert Memorial outside Manchester Town Hall and a bright, dazzling sunset from one of my upstairs windows. Fast forward a couple of weeks to a very cold day, a little light blending in Affinity Photo, and I now have 'Manchester in the Cold'
