I have lived long enough on both sides to know this. Yes our pay is lower but we have to pay double for anything imported and still make a living. I am also old enough to know that we can't influence this in any manner. But I feel for any person who gets upset  by 'well it is only 500 dollars' because we have to work a month after basic expenses for that.
Hence, yes, I do support the smaller business. May they live and thrive and write code for real world photographers.

anita reacted to Juergen S in My first impressions after 2 trial days
    Hello Affinity community
I am a long-time Photoshop user, but due to the unacceptable company policy I would like to change the software.
After 2 " trial days" with AP, I noticed the following first impressions:
    1) Frequently used functions are hidden or only accessible with difficulty. For example: "fill contour". Here I have to activate a layer effect (outline) and then call up the function "Fill" in the main menu and select "Protocol" again. This is very complicated and definitely not a fast workflow. Is there not a shorter way?
    2) It can happen that no layer is selected and therefore an editing does not work. Why? It does not make sense to activate NO layer.
    3) For my website I regularly create JPEGs with 40% quality. IN PS, the results look very good. In AP, however, not at all, even at 85% quality, the result cannot compete with PS at 40%.
    4) The attempt to change a PNG file (with the same pixel size!) from 72 dpi resolution to 300 dpi resulted in an extremely strong artefact formation.
    5) When cropping an object in the masking mode (refine mask), editing remained without result. Only after closing and re-opening it, it suddenly started to sparkle. I have checked my procedure several times!
    6) When an editing window pops up at the bottom of the UI, I have to click it 2-3 times with the left mouse button pressed down before I can move it up. So it has a very unruly behaviour.
    Summary
It is quite clear that a software that is still relatively new on the market and is also available at a more than fair price cannot compete with software that has matured over many, many years. Therefore I would like to contribute with my feedback to make AP better and perhaps in the foreseeable future to make it possible to work without significant bugs. Then the market price may be raised a little bit!
    Kind regards
    Juergen

Hey Guys, An Important Heads up for Affinity users looking to purchase NIK Collection 3 - I purchased this software form DXO Today thinking that it would be an improvement on version 2 - with a new dashboard and easier access! This is not the case! The new dashboard feature only works in Photoshop + The new perspective tool will not work inside affinity (Only as a stand-alone tool) I cannot find any improvement in any other functionality - It strikes me that DXO has opted to develop this for Photoshop I am seriously questioning the cost of the upgrade £49.99 To make things worse DXO is flashing up a sign saying that if you buy the software in the next 30 mins you will get 30 % off - This is rubbish! - They take 30% their offer is completely misleading. Caveat Emptor on this one - Let the buyer beware Simon

Thank you @Alfred .For all who would like to know, the correct link for Designer is
    https://store.serif.com/es/update/macos/designer/1/.
As a result my Designer definitely launches faster again. BTW I also have the beta and that comes as fast as the 1.8.4.

you speak straight from the depth of my heart.
I came to Affinity because I was a long term Macromedia client and fan. Designer, a´part from a few quirks, replaces freehand which I used for 20 years first as Aldus than Macromedia. We all know the use for Affinity photo but Adobe swallowed Dreamweaver and I am not thinking of going there. The new one isn't half as good and I really can't afford the subscription.
I downloaded Designer because i was hoping, like you, that there would be an HTML export.
Oh yes, I would go for that immediately. But as it stands, I need a good counsel what to use instead.

Looks good for a first attempt, the problem with the handlebars is that they are set at a wrong angle and the eye sort of hangs on that. Have a try at working with a perspective grid to apply angles and directions, then you will be on your way.

We've had a query about what is viewed as 'acceptable' content, and what our stance on it is.

This topic is one which is typically fairly volatile because everyone is so different and what is acceptable for one person, can be shocking or inflammatory to another. We don't want everyone to feel cautious about what they click, just in case they are faced with something they'd rather not see, but we also don't want to discourage people from sharing the amazing work they've been creating, so... We think the simplest, clearest thing to do is:

If you think your image could in any way be described as controversial...

    - Start a new topic with an appropriate title
    - Upload your image to a sharing site (Flickr, Behance, Instagram, etc) - you can even use the 'Share' link in the app's File menu
    - Write a proper description of your work in the body of your post and add a text link to the image you have shared

Now, if people think they'd be offended, they just don't have to click the link and they won't see it at all.

    Thanks,
    Matt

It is a pity the serif has decided to drop the website design webplus, I used it fir many years, it was quite simply the best software to design your website with, all others do not have the versatility and are sadly lacking, I have tried others only to find that hmmm feeling, wix is ok but again not upto the job as webplus was, I would like to see an affinity version, like the old plus series so you can put your designs or photos from one app straight into your designed website, pageplus also had some web design features. The advertising alone would be good, website made via infinity apps, I used to use all the drawplus, photoplus pageplus and webplus, the x period and so on, I always had a serif logo at the bottom of the webpage and link to the serif website but I guess it is hard to keep up with the ever evolving www, security and so on, I also found the forum part was better than most as they got hacked but not serif, I trusted it completely, I have had a backdoor takeover from other commercial forums that allowed people to send out emails using the sites email boxes for junk mail or worse, had to shut the site down in the end, since then I have used the limited wix but no longer feel enthusiastic about web design due to the demise of webplus and it's ease of use to do professional looking website the way you want it.

thank you for telling me.. I recently received some emails from Luminar advertising very similar things. As a long term photographer and small time designer I was appalled by these 'features'. Most photo websites are these days flooded with impossible skies, impossible skin etc. Not to speak of a macho idea of woman's bodies.
I still have CS5 which doesn't need upgrading or subscription. The only nuisance is it doesn't work so nicely with newer plugins, but still does Silverefex and exposure.
Have to say that between Affinity, Exposure which has involved into a proper editing tool and Fast Raw viewer to do the sorting I hardly use PS now.
I did once try to subscribe. it was 10$ and they did not inform the local taxes. But boy was I p..d off when they near on instantly wanted to download a huge upgrade. Well in CR 4 GB of internet is about 20 USD on top of the subscription and you couldn't opt to have only parts of it. So I unsubscribed very fast and then had 2 months struggle to get the money back.
Never, Ever again. and they can put their sky replacement together with Luminar back to some intoxicated dream, I can live without it.

Nop. Not quite so. I have travelled last year to Europe (I visited England, France and Spain) and clothes were there cheaper than in my country (in Euros or pounds) and food about the same. Cars here cost more than double than in USA (in US dollars). For most thing which are imported, we have to pay twice what they cost in USA (even if they are Chinese). And I know this because I often look at prices in Amazon USA or e-bay and compare. I don’t know how much a subscription to PS (just PS) costs in other countries (nor in yours), but I have just entered Adobe’s web page for us, and it costs for us 814 $ per month (which would be something as 10 U$S dollars a month to which we have to add 35 % of tax for spending money abroad, which means 13,5 dollars per month). I don’t know, you tell me if PS is cheaper for us than for you. But it is not important. I (and many others I suppose) simply don’t share your opinion, that you can’t do the job if not having Adobe’s programs and that if you haven’t Adobe’s programs in particular, you are not a professional. No mater from which country (first or third world).
But I do think that professionals, even if they do not share your same tastes, deserve a bit of respects. Luckily for Serif and many other program developers, we do not all think the same way. And as somebody said before,....”vive la différence!”

Not many people can afford a ferrari and neither can it go any faster than a fiat 500 on major roads.  My point being that if you give a project to a whizz kid on adobe and the same project to a whizz kid on Affinity, they could both Achieve EXACTLY the same product in EXACTLY the same quality albeit the adobe guy might finnish FIRST, but who cares when both the ferrari and the fiat 500 can take you to EXACTLY the same destination.🙂

Andy05, If I haven’t understood wrongly, you are saying that those who do not earn good money with what they do, can’t be considered a professional (but correct me if I misunderstood you). I am sorry to say that it seems we live in different worlds or at least, we do think differently.
There are lots of countries where there is a lot of unemployment for which reason professionals of any kind are being paid little money. There are countries in which, because of their economic situation, people in general are paid pitiful salaries, and there are countries in which now and again, restrictions to be able to pay in foreign money are imposed (restrictions of the kind might come and go and affect the feasibility to keep paying an engaged rent to a company abroad). I live in one of those countries, so I know what I am talking about.
Lots of companies from first world countries or multinationals appeal to professionals (and labourers) from third world countries because, even if them being good professionals, they can be paid little money.
My nephew and my wife’s daughter’s boyfriend work (through the internet) for American firms (from the USA) in computer programming (the first one works for an oil company). They are paid a tenth of what somebody in the USA earns for the same job they do here and, because of the coronavirus, although those firms have been firing employees from the USA, they (both) are keeping their works (so they are probably not bad professionals).
Just to give an example of the point I am trying to make, I can mention that doctors in my country that work for the public health system earn very little money, and they can be excellent. Luis Federico Leloir received a Nobel Prize in chemistry, and he lived in a very humble way earning little money. Rene Favaloro was the doctor who developed the heart bypass surgery, he received lots of international prizes, and ended up committing suicide overwhelmed by debts.
And regarding paying for Adobe’s licensing, though probably not nowadays (it has become more difficult to do in time) most people in my country used to work with pirated software, even in governmental offices. They only paid for a windows licence, but Photoshop, Autocad and even Microsoft Office they hacked. I am against piracy and think that smaller program developers ought to be supported and that it is healthy to do so, so instead of using hacked programs, I went for alternative programs and paid for them (and I have been mocked by my pairs for doing this). And therefore I bought and used Serif’s programs (among others) with which as I have already said before in this thread, I could get my work done and never had a compatibility problem when having to share my work with others (I am not a designer as you Andy, but an architect, urban designer and city planner, and a hobbyist photographer).
All of those mentioned being some of the reasons for which I do respect professionals even if they have to struggle for a living, and even if they can’t afford to pay for Adobe’s licence (rent) or even if they opt not to do so for whichever reason.
And sorry for this intervention, but this thread seems now and then to lose its way with regards to what this forum I think is supposed to be for (at least in my humble -honestly humble- opinion), and I have lost it myself this time I ought to recognize. So my apologies.
