If you are in Photo I would just add a fill layer and place it at the bottom of the layers and pick any grey that will work for you. If you are in Designer I would put a rectangle at the bottom of the layers and fill it with a grey as well. You can lock either of these so you don't move or select them. Just turn off those layers before exporting or printing the final files.

As a workaround, another forum member provided a macro that does work, in another topic. We're not sure how he recorded it, but perhaps it is one he did back in 1.6.
In any case, the macro works on 1.7 and (I believe) 1.8, so here it is in case some of you find it useful:

    Hi @TOS.
Welcome to the forums and sorry for the delayed reply.
I replicated this and logged it with our developers.
    Thanks,
    Gabe.

    Hi all,
the creation of a macro that changes the DPI setting only, leads to distorted pictures where this macro is applied to. All photos this macro is applied to receive the correct DPI setting but the pixel dimensions of the recording photo are applied as well. This is where the distortion happens.
    Macro was recorded like this:
On loaded image select "Document" -> "Resize document"  Uncheck "Resample" option -> pixel values become disabled (800x600px) Change DPI -> in my case to "300" Click "Resize" Stop recording and save the macro Applying this macro to a 72dpi photo with 1200x600px, the values become 300dpi with 800x600px. Looks like the unchecked "resample" setting is ignored on recording.
I also tried to record the "uncheck resample" as a single step but it didn't work either, as well as deleting meta data.
The 1 step macro is attached to this post.
I am running the following setup:
    OSX 10.14.6 Mojave
    Affinity Photo 1.7.2 (desktop trail)
Please have a look to this possible bug.
Or if the problem is in front of the computer, just let me know how to record this macro correctly ;-)

Best regards and thanks for building these awesome apps!

I understand how this can be useful in those cases you mentioned, but even if this behavior is kept, it would be great to have a way to permanently reset the bounding box without having to do work-arounds with add/subtract shape or converting to curves. I would prefer to not have the extra step of resetting the bounding box evey time I need to change the object; I find it very disruptive to a visual composition workflow.

While I whole heartily appreciate a current accessibility of the bounding box to easily be able to go back and edit the shape (fantastic feature), a permanent reset or an actual toggle mode is a huge request. Please and Thank you.

Put me down as one more that wants at least the option to make the reset permanent.

    Status: Beta Release
    Purpose: New features, fixes
    Requirements: Purchased Affinity Photo
    Mac App Store: Not Submitted
    Download: Here

This is the first beta of a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.

To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.

    Fixes/Improvements:
First and foremost, the 1.6 version is mainly about: Light UI! (go to Preferences->User Interface) Improved view pan/zoom performance and new pixel-differencing pixel shader Improved performance with large documents New font chooser dropdown with recents, used fonts and favourites New Glyph browser Stroke stabiliser for all pencil and brush tools Align to key items (first/last selected) Text frame vertical alignment options Fit frame to text (double-click on bottom centre handle). Transform panel uses the rotation centre Scale/shear can now be performed about rotation centre Double-click now resets shape handles and rotate/shear handles Many PDF export improvements including vector export of multi-stop gradients Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements

I'm probably in the minority here, but I use the Info Panel on the desktop app a LOT.  I'd love to see this added to the iPad app, as well.  Or am I just missing where it is?  Hopefully?  Wishing?  :D

    Hi tleparskas,
    Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
Both plugins are already working with Affinity Photo (with a few issues/exceptions). Please check this page for more details.
Here's a video tutorial on how to install plugins in Affinity Photo (Nick Collection): Mac, Windows.
