Data Merge in Publisher
h_d replied to Giaco's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
If this is the video you're referring to, @giaco51 it's not about the new data merge feature in Affinity Publisher beta: it's specifically about merging separate Publisher documents. As far as I'm aware there are no official tutorials yet about how to use data merge - people are picking it up as they go along... -
Data Merge – can't link to 2nd source
h_d replied to thomaso's topic in [ARCHIVE] Publisher beta on macOS threads
Back in the day publishers used AppleScript to connect QuarkXPress with FileMaker databases and automagically produce TV listings mags, classified ad supplements, sales brochures and more. My feeling is that unless Serif build some sort of cross-application automation into their apps, the data would need to be manually exported -
can't find pantone pallet
h_d replied to rll's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
The Pantone colour palettes should be installed by default. The pull-down you need to click is not the 'Hamburger Menu' at the top right of the panel, but the list of colours that defaults to "Greys". The Pantones should be at the bottom: Cheers, H -
Font Family
h_d replied to blackstone's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Yes, but as far as I'm aware you can't edit the "No Style" styles which are used by default when you create a new text frame. So you'll need to edit your paragraph and character styles with the font you need, then in the Text Styles panel click the "Hamburger" menu and choose Save Styles as Default: I then drew a random text frame, set the paragraph and text styles to my edited "Body" and "Body text" styles, and then from the Edit menu chose Defaults - Save: Now, every time I draw a new text frame in a new document, its default font is American Typewriter. Hope this helps, H -
Alternatively, run Geometry - Smooth Curves click the Node tool and then click Smooth Curve in the context menu bar on both the 'flower' and the 'cloud', then the subtraction operation will work correctly. Presumably this also rectifies the fill issues identified by @anon2 EDIT: Please disregard my answer - posted in error. H

Hi @Troy Deckert and welcome! I've tried copying and pasting Affinity Publisher index markers in a variety of ways into a variety of applications, including Pages, with no success whatsoever. Not saying it can't be done, but so far it's beaten me... If you haven't already done so, you can evaluate Publisher and the other Affinity apps for 10 days - click the Buy Now button at the Affinity Store and you'll get a Free Trial option.

If by you mean add adjustment layers, live filters, masks, non-destructive crops etc, then you what you have created is an unsaved .afphoto document. Your original .jpg is unmodified, and what you have open on screen cannot be saved directly as a .jpg because the .jpg file format does not support the Affinity layers. You have two options: 1) Flatten the image (Document - Flatten). You can then either Save (the original .jpg will be updated) or Save As (a new copy will be created). 2) Save the .afphoto document. Then Export and use the options to create a new .jpg from the .afphoto document. Your original .jpg will be unmodified. The latter option is called non-destructive editing and it's pretty much how Affinity Photo is intended to work. EDIT: "Export" in this context does indeed mean "Send out from". You're sending a file out from Affinity Photo in a new format. Apple's own Pages app (and many others) use the same metaphor:

Make sure you have a transparent background: Then use the Flood Select tool. Click in each bus window to create a selection, then press delete/backspace: Cheers, H
