Let's just keep this thread for what is is and was.

Simple basic feature that should be present since the very first alpha / beta version
Below here is just an example, dropdown list with multiple options would not be much more work.

    Default Export-as folder followup:
I've come up with an idea that if it, or some variation of it, is implemented, it might be very helpful to a lot of people.  I mocked up a screen shot (in Affinity Photo of course) of the Export-as dialog window (attached) with a new drop-down menu that has 2 choices:
Use source folder (which means the folder either the background image file is in or the folder the .afphoto file is in if re-opening it) Use previous folder (which means use whichever folder was last exported to (for those who want to export repeatedly to this folder regardless of where source is located) An alternative would be for one of those to be the default Export-as location, and there be a radio button or check box to override that to the other option.

Show stopper for me. I was willing to give it a run, but this is so basic that I don't see spending any more time on Affinity. Craigleeus et al. have had some good suggestions pending since 2016. 'Nuf said.

We're pretty much on the same page.  I wouldn't characterize Photoshop as necessarily a simpler way to edit digital images, but Photoshop does make some things easier to use -- like what we're discussing, or like re-centering the image when zooming back in, more and easier to use presets, easier to create, import and use Actions, more options in Refine Mask, and much better handling of crop ratios, to name a few that frustrate me.  But AP has good features too.  I'm getting off track....
Of all those differences, the Export As control is my top request right now.

I wrote the original post and also uploaded the mockup screen shot.  I want the change as much as every other person who's posted here.
However, I imagine there are a vast number of posts on this forum on many different issues, and as such, it's hard for Affinity's product development team to monitor these posts. What I mean, is we might be just 'preaching to the choir'.  It does not seem like a very difficult enhancement to make.  There's clearly a lot of support.  So I can only presume it Affinity isn't even aware of the request.

Nicely done, especially the idea of having the default be the prior setting. Perfect for those of us who want to save back to the Source folder 95 % of the time, but on occasion would like a different folder destination. Very nicely done.
If only Affinity would pay attention and implement it. They had an opportunity with the last update, but FAILED to implement it. What a shame, since this type of thing is not at all difficult. No AI needed, no Rocket Science.
Affinity used to really pay attention to feedback so I'm wondering what happened.

Much of the RAW development in the Serif Labs RAW Engine is done by the LibRAW Open Source library that Serif makes use of. There are aspects of it that are implemented around the invocations of that library, but much of the core processing is in the library which means that Serif can't support some functions and new cameras until the LibRAW developers support it.
However, in 1.8, given the long delay in LibRAW supporting CR3-format files, Serif contacted Canon and implemented the support themselves, if I've understood various Serif comments in the forums correctly.

Affinity photo should make the default export folder be the same folder the source file was in that was used to open the editing session.
Right now, AP exports to whatever folder was last exported to.
I edited an image file today located in folder A and exported it (I had to navigate to folder A to do the export).  Later today, I edited an image from folder B (in this case, it was a .afphoto file).  When I exported a JPG file, it went to folder A (because i didn't pay attention or, for that matter, even expect that).  That's not good.
This is a no-brainer request..  I completely agree with everyone else on this topic.

A_B_C, perhaps you can compress it further outside the app (like in WinRAR, or with backup software).  That won't significantly compress it, but could help.
I would be comfortable with WinRAR, but Serif would have the tools to determine what data can be safely removed (for compression) and later completely recovered if needed.  (Not an easy design task)  More than likely, though, if they added some compression option, it would be at least partially destructive.

A small request. This option exists in Photoshop, but could also be enabled in settings to be automatic. Basically, it set it so that when you are zooming in and out, the document window auto-resizes to the current image size. I wouldn't mind either if it were just a shortcut key I had to hit to do the auto-resize. Unless there is another way to achieve this with just shortcuts? That would be awesome.

craigleeus got a reaction from im140.6 in Crop Tool defaults to "Custom Ratio"
Moderator:   I want to see a moderator's reply be: "here's how to do that", "it's not available now, but here's how to add it to the feature request", or "here's a work-around".
It appears you are correct that Crop cannot default to the Mode 'Original Ratio';  however there may be a potentially helpful work-around.  If one selects a crop preset (gear icon in version 1.7), that selection will become the default until subsequently changed (selecting the modes Unconstrained and Original Ratio will release a preset as a default).  If im140.6 has a series of images that have a size that's in the presets, use that.  If they're not in the presets, a custom preset can be added.
As a feature request, I would like to see 'Original Ratio' added to the presets and behave like other presets by becoming the default until subsequently changed.  How does that request get communicated?

after I posted the above, I learned that crop preset apparently (per other posts) can only be created for "standard ratios", whatever that is...ugh

I would seriously love to see this too.

To be able to apply Nik filters, and then come back the next day, and do minor tweaks. That is really something I miss from PS.
    Please!!!

I'm sure this has been requested before.. but +1 for enabling plugins to be used as Live Filter layers please.  I love Nik Collection but I do not love using it destructively in Affinity Photo where adjustments cannot be made subsequently.  Live Filter seems to be the best way to achieve similar functionality as Smart Filter/Smart Object in PS.

Oh... and sort out the colour render in Viveza please as well

    Thank you, Serif!
