pyxelles got a reaction from DesignerMim by Miriam in Thin white line when placing seamless patterns
This is a frustrating problem a lot of us who create repeat patterns have been experiencing and complaining about for a few years now. Those white lines emerge as soon as I create a clipping mask on my pattern swatch. When the pattern is repeated in a preview you can see the lines
I've search the internet and forums for a solution and can't find one that works. I've followed "the rules" and still even when I export the file as a PNG, the lines still show! It's beginning to look like an Affinity Designer bug which needs to be fixed ASAP.

I'm afraid the lines don't disappear. I always export my pattern designs as a PNG.  Recently saw the lines looking so visible on a few of my mockups I've had to delete them. I create my patterns with precision using only the transform tool to move anything, making sure everything is perfectly aligned so for the life of me can't understand why any gaps should exist between each repeated pattern swatch.
They're especially bad on designs with very dark or black backgrounds. I've tried all the suggestions and no joy. I'm also not the only one complaining about it.

pyxelles reacted to sophie123 in Thumbnails not appearing in Windows Explorer, only icons
In Windows 10 Explorer, any .AFPHOTO or .AFDESIGN files are showing as application icons, rather than thumbnails.
My .PSD files which open in Affinity Photo show correctly as thumbnails.
    Example below:

I have followed instructions from various threads including:
    1. "Save thumbnails with documents"

    2. Unticking "Always show icons, never thumbnails"

    3. Preview Pane shows a blank window

You can see that these files are stored on OneDrive which I understand is a known issue. If I move these files into a non-OneDrive folder then the thumbnails appear correctly and are retained when I move them back to OneDrive. However, two interesting things:
    1. The .PSD thumbnails now appear as icons and not thumbnails after the move
    2. The thumbnails do not update if the .AFPHOTO or .AFDESIGN files are updated
However, if I now refresh the folder, all of the .AFPHOTO and .AFDESIFN files go back to icons and .PSDs are shown as thumbnails.
Why doesn't Affinity like OneDrive... or vice versa?

    Platform:
    1. Windows 10 Home
    2. Affinity Designer 1.10.1.1142
    3. Affinity Photo  1.10.1.1142
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

I've noticed that affinity photo is slowing down a lot, and I've downloaded lots of fonts from google and I want to remove the ones I no longer use, but I can't. I can't find any information on this at all and simply deleting the file doesn't do anything. Can anyone help me please?

Honestly there isn't any argument or issues, just wanted to clarify what I meant. It's possible I had edited "Adobe can only claim to be...." to "Adobe can only be..." as I realised that Serif have never claimed to be an Adobe replacement and they needn't as it's an excellent app on its own. However, the label has been imposed on Affinity products, that's all.
As much as I love Affinity-I own all three apps, doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement or those who offer criticism should get verbally attacked with patronising or sarcastic comments. That user's frustration is genuine to them and for someone to just come along and dismissively ask them to create their own app is frankly rude and unhelpful.
I think if users' issues were at least acknowledged that would be better - letting people know if its a consideration or not, where in the road map etc rather than just ignoring them. People are just frustrated by the absence of features they consider to be basic necessities which make their workflow more tedious and have been requesting for years. No arguments here just people voicing their opinions. Nice to see a moderator btw 🤓

My sentiments exactly, I don't see the point in selling it cheap and leaving out so many basic features people desperately need and have been requesting for years. Most of us are tired of using "work-around" to complete certain tasks. I still think Affinity is a great product and appreciate the absence of the subscription pricing model. However, I'd rather have all the requested features for a higher price (as long as it remains subscription free). I'd happily pay a higher price- one off of course!😄
Affinity can only become an Adobe replacement when it includes basic tools like: live trace (even Inkscape has this), warp effect, eraser, knife tool, pattern maker tool, vectorization tool (like in Inkscape, Gravit Designer) etc. I really hope Affinity 2.0 delivers.
I say an Adobe replacement because whether we like it or not, Adobe is still established as the "industry standard" in the creative industry hence, in order for Affinity to compete to the point of being recognised as an "industry standard" alternative, it needs to match the missing highly requested and essential features found in Adobe. There are professionals who complain about having to still return to Adobe to complete certain tasks! Nobody is asking them to change their pricing model or ethics. I can still be an Affinity fan and offer constructive criticism- nothing wrong with that.

pyxelles reacted to DM1 in WHAT IS THE DEVELOPMENT TEAM DOING?
I think it’s a fair question. What are the developers doing? Do they not have a team dedicated to the iOS apps?
We have many bugs being reported again and again. Often the same bug reported multiple times because there is no user accessible concise numbered list of reported bugs. Many reports are 'bumped' by Mods to try and get some action going with developers. Again no feedback to indicate bumping has actually resulted in the bug getting some attention.
There does not 'appear' to be a 'process' for prioritising action to fix reported bugs. I’m guessing that there must be some sort of process, but if so it lacks communication of progress to end users and, I suspect mods are just as in the dark as us when it comes to what is being fixed.
Updates and releases don’t provide a full list of fixes either. Worse still, some updates reintroduce previously 'fixed' bugs.
From a users perspective, many basic feature requests made over the past few years continue to be completely ignored.
I’d say 'all in all, development for iOS has always appeared to be a bit of a dogs breakfast', and yes, that might indeed be considered ranting 😂.

Actually Affinity Designer does have free form gradient.  It was added at the beginning of 2020 to Affinity Designer with the new Appearances tab which allows you to add multiple fills and strokes to a layer.  If you add a gradient either circle or ellipse to the fill and then set the right sides opacity to 0% so its completely transparent and the left side to the desired colour and set the blend mode to average (or you can play around with it) it will become a free form gradient point and function just like free form gradient in Adobe Illustrator.  Duplicate the fills and adjust the color on the left and you will have multiple gradient points that will interact with one another.  Use the handles on the gradient to stretch and shrink the area of coverage of the gradient and how much it overlaps with the gradient fill point next to it.  I miss spoke it's actually more flexible than AI's freeform gradient as you can modify more options such as the shape of the gradient around the point, the size and area of coverage, the way it blends, add additional colors at various points with their own opacity levels, etc.  There is a lot more control.
As far as the others we definitely do need a Shape Builder tool.  I have searched and fiddled around with the boolean geometry xor and node tools join and close curve buttons to varying degrees of success but this only works with simple shapes having no real line overlap.  There is also a great need for a vector deform tool like Adobe Illustrators Envelope Distort Mesh Warp and to Warp to Shape tools as well as a Live Trace tool.  A curve smoothing and simplification tool to cut down on the number of nodes would also be nice.  As far as 3D text this can be somewhat achieved with the fx 3d and bevel tools.

Well, sure, but in my case I like to do freeform cutting, painting, and erasing because I use vectors as a base for silhouette painting and colouring in my drawings. If they can make something like the Pencil Tool that works as a cutter with the option to create straight lines for jagged edges then I will be at least satisfied.

I'm using the current 1.9 versions of Designer and Photo, on a WIndows 10 laptop with 8GB of RAM and plenty of spare disk space. I was creating some assets -- I'd got up to nine subcategories each with sixteen assets -- when Photo froze. After a long wait with nothing happening, I restarted my computer and opened Photo again. The new category I'd created had disappeared, and so had several others that I created months ago. I opened Designer, which had some different asset categories, and tried to rename a subcategory, only to have Designer freeze too. Eventually Windows closed it, and once again I found several asset categories, including the one whose subcat. I was trying to rename, had disappeared when I reloaded Designer.
Can anyone suggest where the assets have gone and if they're recoverable?

I don't get it either, it's ridiculous. I thought the knife tool was a basic necessity for any graphic design software. The boolean operations can't be used in every situation where the knife tool would just do. Besides, I feel the boolean operations must have functionality issues as there times when I select the desired objects to either add or subtract etc and the boolean buttons are simply greyed out!

pyxelles reacted to macchinario in Replace Pixel persona with Photo
Affinity Publisher came with the greatest feature of all graphic editors I've ever seen: the ability to switch between Publisher, Designer and Photo inside the same app. This is delightful and came with a collateral effect: I tried to use Publisher for most of my work thanks to this.  Now the issue here is that Publisher is very much focused on print. Of course, that's the whole point of it; so working with anything else, like single illustrations, gets kinda of janky.
So, here's my request: please bring StudioLink to Designer, allowing me to replace the Pixel persona with Photo. I do most of my work as vector, but I still need to add photos and other kind of images to it, and I often go to Photo to do edits and adjustments. Being able to quickly switch between Designer and Photo inside the same window, on the same document, would be incredible.
