Affinity Publisher - Export as PDF issue

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I've been working on a project within publisher (1.7.1 - Mac client) and I went to export the project as a PDF and got a issue saying there was "Overflowing Text" within the project, I clicked "Ignore and continue" to continue with the export.

When I continued with the export, selected PDF and a DPI of 192 and selected a location for it to save I then got a error message, saying "An error occurred while exporting to (location)"

I've tried saving to different locations, closing and opening the app, resetting the settings and restarting the computer with no luck.

I then tried exporting a single page as a PDF and that worked fine, so I started to delete pages to see if any where causing a issue with the export.

I then came across "page 13" in the project, removing this page removed the "Overflowing Text" error and the profile exported perfectly. So the issue seems to be with this page, tho this page haves no "overflowing text" even if it did I don't understand how this would cause the project not the export correctly.

Has any one else had this issue? For me this is the second time this has happened (within different projects)

P.S Here is the working file with the issue.

I'm also having export to PDF problems.

You can debug the export to find the problem by following the steps outlined at:

When you look at the last few lines of the .log file generated, then it might give you some help on what's causing the problem.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for posting the file, it always helps speed up the process of finding out what's wrong.  The problem as you found is on Page 13 and where you have the page number in the bottom left corner, there is a text box, if you look at the bottom of the Layers panel, just before Master B you'll see a text frame with the name (1<G+33>2)  If you delete that frame, you'll be able to export the PDF without issue.

I've no idea what that frame is, it's very odd as it only has a height and won't let me set a width but deleting it resolve the issue.  I'll get this logged with the Dev team and hopefully they will know where its come from.

For help in locating overflowing text frames, someone posted this suggestion a few days ago:

  1. Ensure that View > Show Text Flow is enabled.
  2. Zoom out to see the entire document (View > Zoom > Zoom to Document, or Ctrl+Alt+Shift+0).
  3. Look for the red dots.

That shows that the file you attached here has overflowing text on page 12 and on page 14.

That is weird.

I can't say for sure what its content is, as I don't have the Lucida Grande font. But from the Layers panel the text content is 1<G+33>2 which I think is 1, plus glyph #33 from Lucida Grande, plus a 2.

From a search in the Glyphs Browser on "G+33" in the Lucida Grande & many other fonts, glyph #33 is the greater than sign. But in Roboto it is the equal sign, in Optima the colon, in Skia the exclamation mark, etc.

Thanks. It was > in the Lucida font I do have, but that was no guarantee about Lucida Grande :)

Edit: Also, if it was a "standard" character it shouldn't have shown up as G+33 in the Layers panel. I don't get that when I insert a Lucida Sans Unicode glyph #33 into a Text Frame. My Layers panel shows it as > just like the Text Frame does.
