Patti Painter
I'm obviously very new to this…and have watched many tutorials but for the life of me…I can't get the Band-aid removal to work. It appears I have to press + (something) but I have no idea what that is… All I want to do is start by axing that kid in the water! lol Plus why are all those steps beside the tools? All tutorials do not show them there. Can I move them? Please advise.
walt.farrell
Welcome to the Affinity forums! I'm not sure what you mean by "steps beside the Tools". Do you mean your Library studio panel? If so, you can close it (View > Studio > and uncheck Library) or you can drag it someplace else. carl123 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Staff stokerg Posted January 30, 2019 Staff Share Posted January 30, 2019 Hi Patti Painter and Welcome to the Forums, The key you need press for the Healing Brush tool to work should be the ALT or Option key, depending on your keyboard layout
walt.farrell
Also, on Windows you would Alt+Click to set a source for the pixels to copy. That symbol is the Mac equivalent of the Alt key, I think. You can find more information about the tool in the Help. Online version here. Patti Painter
Thanks All…..I think I got it. Just in all the tutorials I watched it showed the object being erased by a RED Circle.
carl123
That pop-up warning message is wrong It says click+alt to set a source it should say alt+click click+alt does nothing In comparison the same pop-up message for the clone tool correctly says alt+click (Tested on Windows version) Patti Painter 1 Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. Staff MEB Posted January 30, 2019 Staff Share Posted January 30, 2019 Hi Patti Painter, Not sure I understood you correctly but maybe you have enabled Monochromatic Iconography in the Preferences, User Interface section? Untick it and the icons on the left toolbar should be rendered in colour again. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

Patti Painter
I seriously can't get that red Brush Tool to remove things…..I HOLD ALT or I HOLD OPTION and click my tool and NOTHING! Man do I feel stupid! This must be the easiest task of this entire program! I have watched numerous Videos and how to but they just show pressing the healing bandaid and poof they red out the unwanted part and done. At this part I'm not interested in cloning, just erasing. Feel free to Message me @ painters(at)mymts.net and maybe we can chat with snap shots etc,

Staff MEB Posted January 31, 2019 Staff Share Posted January 31, 2019 In your screenshot you have the Healing Brush Tool selected, NOT the Inpainting Brush Tool. Click the small arrow in the Healing Brush Tool button to display a pop-up with additional tools then pick the Inpainting Brush Tool there (highlighted in the screenshot below). R C-R
14 hours ago, Patti Painter said: I've watched this one at the very least 5 times and it is EXACTLY what I am trying to do. It is easy to miss selecting the Inpainting Brush Tool in the video because that essential step is done very quickly, in less than one second or so near the beginning. However there are some clues about that in your screenshot you should be aware of, some much more subtle than others: In the tool panel, the Healing Brush Tool icon is displayed, not the Inpainting Brush Tool one. It is easy to miss that among the clutter of all the other tools, & because the background highlight of the selected tool icon is not much darker than surrounding background in the tool panel, making the selected tool not very obvious at a glance. (I & a few others have whined about that for years, but it hasn't done much good.) The Status Bar at the bottom of the window is telling you that you need to select a source for the Healing Brush Tool: The Inpainting Brush Tool does not require that. Again, an easy thing to overlook. The first item on the opened Layer menu is "Fade Healing Brush Tool ..." That is probably the most obvious clue but it just says "Fade..." until you actually have applied the selected brush tool to a layer, so it isn't very helpful until you manage to do that. So there is no reason you should feel stupid about missing any of these things. None of them are obvious until you are aware of them, & even then they are easy to overlook. I also suspect that most users new to the app have missed them as well -- I know I did.
