How to remove a single color from image & make it transparent

Recommended Posts

I want to remove the white from this image, I've adjusted the Levels so the whites are completely white & blacks are completely black. I've gone to the selection tab & tried the 'Select sample colour' but i can't find a way to make it work. I've spent the last 3 hours looking at youtube tutorials, FAQ's & forums yet i have no idea what i'm doing right or wrong, please help.

If this is to overlay an image you could use Blend mode: Multiply this effectively makes white transparent.

Blend mode: Screen does the opposite, that knocks out the black.

don't worry, i figured it out. I went to filters, then colours, then erase white paper.

i hope this helps someone

This is great.

But what if the color we want to remove isn't white? Is there a simple way to select a color from an image and just remove a specific color (other than white)?

"Select > Mark Selected Color", adjust the color tolerance and afterwards hit the "delete" key.

FWIW, in the US English version it is Selection > Select Sampled Color...
