Move tool keeps transforming

Recommended Posts

I made an account on this forum specifically to look and see if there was anything about this issue. It's driving me a little bit nuts - the only way I can move an object (ANY object, or text, curves or not) is by zooming in ridiculously far or by using my finger. The Apple Pencil just keeps transforming the objects instead of moving them, no matter where I touch. I'd be overjoyed for an option to lock the transformations to the corner nodes only, at this point, or anything else that would make the transform option LESS responsive.

Any workarounds are much appreciated!

About the only thing that works is to zoom right in. I agree, it is a pain in the proverbial....

Any updates on this? It really drives me crazy :( Any workarounds are much appreciated!

Use the official Serif technique ;)

a/ select the shape

b/ resize the shape

c/ press undo

d/ zoom in

e/ stretch the shape

f/ undo

g/ zoom in some more

h/ eureka, it moves

i/ now what? The shape has filled the whole screen so I can’t see where to move it to. Bummer :(

What I do is add a larger rectangle or similar shape, select both the rectangle and the smaller object and use the rectangle as a handle.

If I was rating this app I would only give it one star due to this ridiculous design flaw and the dark grey on black interface. Which is a shame because the desktop app is definitely a four or five star app.

Every time I need to select a Studio I have to press the question mark. I even printed a couple of labels to stick on the edge of the iPad to help me ‘see’ the icons. I did get laughed at a couple of times, which was embarrassing :$

I don¡t seem to have as much of a problem if I pause briefly before attempting the move. The black rectangle is an icon. The other rectangle is just an empty shape. This is a very small rectangle. Notice how the touch gesture shrinks slightly after the pause.

Same rectangle shown at actual size. As you can see it is so small it is hard to select but with a slight pause it moves and no transforming.

Here, I fixed it. Now it’s even easier to move really small objects, and accidental resizing is a thing of the past.

We need a second handle outside of the object (like for rotation), so that even smallest shapes (like dots) can be moved without zooming way in. And handle being outside of the shape can help better position moving shape, as it won’t be occluded by Pencil.

I am pretty I have found the solution, which works on both Photo and Designer but I don't have a Pencil, so need someone who has to try.

I have the same problem but in Aff. Photo. This tip will not work in Photo, I have to zoom in and tip the object with the pencil, than I can move it.

I am pretty sure I have figured out the solution to this, but don't have a pencil, perhaps you could try ?

It works on both Photo and Designer.

@toltec I have responded to your original post. Your solution works well on both Designer and Photo. Thanks.

Using Afinity Designer on the iPad Pro, I’ll select an object and try to move it, but often it will distort (scale up the width or height out of proportion) when all I want to do is move it to a new position. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Is this a bug? Or is there some trick to preventing it from scaling up (I just want to move it)? Thanks...

Seems fine to me. I created two intersecting lines with pen tool and moved them together (similar to yours?). Then used Move tool to move (without resizing or transforming.

Maybe it effects different hardware 'differently '. Mine is 10.5 iPad Pro and seems ok. Phil K has 9.7 Pro has still has issues. What hardware do you have?
