There's a Mesh Warp deformation tool in Affinity Designer's roadmap. Others may also come later.

Would this include fractalizing a path so it looks hand-drawn?  That would be the most useful for my work.

Would the mesh warp be usable on text? Like envelope warp in other programs?

A text warp or distort tool so we can give text some perspective would be invaluable for designers. I love the programme but find it surprising this is not already in there.

A Mesh Warp Distortion Tool is already on Affinity Designer's roadmap (which covers all 1.x cycle) and yes you should be able to use it on text.

I understand from your example that you are looking for a different type of deformation. Like twirling or rippling a line? I'm with you there. That's good to make a smooth object look more furry or pointy.
