Kodiak
• A long lens photo club booked the morning for a three hour mentoring class. Theme: how to successfully use all the reach of big guns! It is not difficult to operate but compression, reach, move- ment control & stability, and the shallow DoF need be well taken care of. Task: Don't try to impress waiting for flying dragons or surfacing submarines… just shoot anything from BiF to landscapes (yes, possible with long lenses!) as the subject is, in this exercise, not important but the quality of the take should be impeccable in terms of framing, panning and fo- cusing. Shortly, before Christmas, we will meet again and look for the best takes of the day! Here is my contribution… 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Quote www.kodiakmedia.at bureau@kodiakmedia.at TeamViewer: 668 015 544 Skype: kodiakonline If personal taste is involved, Light is free, Mother Nature provides the light discussion is pointless. capturing it is NOT. but talent renders the image. Kodiak
• Em@il question: — "I see you are posting only birds… why do you say you're not a birder?" I post birds (or else!) because I don't post my professional work. When I am assigned a job, though I make the pictures, the com- missionner has to unique right to use them for ever given the takes are clearly identifiable to a brand … it is in all contracts. As a passionate photographer, I even take pictures in my free time. These pictures are mine to use as I will. Some years ago, I was living close to a nature park where 4 legged creatures were the main subject. Nowadays, I am close to a marsh. Kodiak
Number six really impressed me! This is the first time anyone ever says that a Muscovy duck might be impressing! …but then, you are from Mexico… I think the Muscovy duck is far underrated. Very different and some (like #6) with magnificent iridescence, they are the less noisy, less aggressive and the most "I mind my own business" attitude I observed at the marsh. In that sense, the Muscovy and the Geese have the cooler personalities. See below… How about you post pictures about a wise photographer named Kodiak taking shots? Best regards! Ok, I'll see what I can do… but why? ————————————————————————————— I do think they have a charm of their own… Quote www.kodiakmedia.at bureau@kodiakmedia.at TeamViewer: 668 015 544 Skype: kodiakonline If personal taste is involved, Light is free, Mother Nature provides the light discussion is pointless. capturing it is NOT. but talent renders the image. Ok, I'll see what I can do… but why? I think it's good to see a great photographer at work. I, for example, like to see my favourite artists drawing. Best regards! Mithferion
The turkey is. And the head is similar (the red thing) but this duck, nope, never seen it before myself. :P Quote AMD FX 8350 :: Radeon HD 5670 :: Windows 10 :: http://mithferion.deviantart.com/ Oxygen Icons :: GCP Icons :: iOS 11 Design Resources :: iOS App Icon Template :: Free Quality Fonts (Commercial Use) :: Public Domain Images How to do High Quality Art :: Mesh Warp / Distort Tool Considerations :: Select Same / Object - Suggestions :: Live Glassmorphism Effect
Kodiak
The turkey is. And the head is similar (the red thing) but this duck, nope, never seen it before myself. :P Well, maybe this is your invitation to visit Mexico!   Muscovy duck From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Muscovy duck (Cairina moschata) is a large duck native to Mexico, Central, and South America. Small wild and feral breeding populations have established themselves in the United States, par- ticularly in Florida and the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas as well as in many other parts of North America, including southern Canada. Feral Muscovy ducks are found in New Zealand, Australia, and in parts of Europe. They are large ducks, with the males about 76 cm (30 in) long, and weighing up to 7 kg (15 lb). Females are considerably smaller, and only grow to 3 kg (6.6 lb), roughly half the males' size. The bird is predominantly black and white, with the back feathers being iridescent and glossy in males, while the females are more drab. The amount of white on the neck and head is variable, as well as the bill, which can be yellow, pink, black, or any mixture of these. They may have white patches or bars on the wings, which become more noticeable during flight. Both sexes have pink or red wattles around the bill, those of the male being larger and more brightly colored. Although the Muscovy duck is a tropical bird, it adapts well to cooler climates, thriving in weather as cold as −12 °C (10 °F) and able to sur- vive even colder conditions.[3][4] In general, Barbary duck is the term used for C. moschata in a culinary context. The domestic breed, Cairina moschata domestica, is commonly known in Spanish as the pato criollo ("creole duck"). They have been bred since pre-Columbian times by Native Americans and are heavier and less able to fly long distances than the wild subspecies. Their plumage color is also more variable. Other names for the domestic breed in Spanish are pato casero ("backyard duck") and pato mudo ("mute duck"). Mithferion
Ohhh, I see, it's supposed to live in both coasts of Mexico. Truth be told, I'm not a tropical kind of guy. I prefer mountains and the like. But I promise I'll put attention when I visit the coast. :P P. S.: You are welcome anytime! LilleG
I like the composition of the bird on a branch with the ducks surrounding it. Nice feather detail on the anhinga.
Kodiak
• Thanks LilleG! :) These bit of fallen branches have very good features that make them a favourite and frequent motive in my shootings. Here, it is more the perfect light to show what is other- wise quite difficult to render Hooded Crow… and the protesting duck to its too close chosen landing spot. As for the Cormorant, catching their feathers irides- cence is a challenge! Kodiak
• UPDATE — PRE XMAS MEETING So, the long lens photo club who booked that morning for a three hour session and I met on last Thursday. That first session with the club has resulted in a collection of photographs reflecting their "no permission granted" decision to post them here. Understanding that a millimetre movement of the lens will trans- late, even with fast SS, to a softer take at longer range. A simple technique called damping was ignored by all. They agreed to another session in early February 2017. GMPhotography
Not sure if this is open for others to post photo's or not, the description is kind of vague. But thought, "Hey, why not show a landscape taken with a long lens" Seeing as long lenses are usually used for wildlife or for portraits that require that extra punch. Anyway, this was taken at 300mm using a tripod.
