very slow

Recommended Posts

I'm finding that the loading time for a JPEG image varies enormously. I've seen a 12MP or 13MP image load in about five seconds, but an 8MP image can take as much as a minute and a half. :(

The slowness is quite likely to be hardware related (?).

I can load a 390MB 4 layer .psd file into AP in 6 secs (from File/Open). That same image opens in its native Photoshop just half a sec quicker. (Timed with a smartphone stopwatch app).

I'm on an Asus ROG G750JS i7 laptop (2014 model).

I've only had a couple of hours play with AP so far ...it rocks! :)

Then that's why... The major benefit in real life use of an SSD tends to be loading files.   :)

And way even more with your settings. Plus, RAM in a generous quantity, so, your file opening and handling times are expected to be quite shorter.

Also, all the other components, I bet is way above the average machine of many hobbyists ;)

But imo, in this very case is mostly the SSDs.

Same experience as PedroOfOz. 16.5 MB ARW-files (from Sony a580) open in under 5 secs from my NAS. AP is installed on an SSD though. For comparison: DxO Optics pro 11 only takes about two seconds less.

Running Win10 Pro on a 6600k @4.2 GHz, 16 GB ram.

Would be interesting to know the machines of the OP and anyone experiencing slow loading. Still, not to address the issue, as if they load fast in other applications, there might be an issue. But I mean, for curiosity's sake... IMO, RAM and SSDs help a lot (a NAS can be quite faster than an old simple mechanical HD). But also, both machines have quite powerful CPUs. I know quite some photography hobbyists not having the latest technology in their pc/laptop (but amazing cameras). From what i read in general on internet, is kind of frequent. People into gaming instead, have way more powerful and up to date machines. Speaking very generally, of course...

I'm not sure as yet due to my very limited experience with AP but it does seem to be driving the GPU harder than my other graphic apps. That is the fans are running fast for even low intensity burning and dodging, all things being equal that's not happening with PS for example.

I don't game btw. I decided back in 2014 to replace my i3 laptop after realising watching spinning balls was not a healthy way to experience life  ;)
