EoghanMag Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I have just downloaded the latest updates for Designer, Photo and Publisher (version 2). I was expecting some sort of explaination somewhere, as to what the new updates do, but cannot find them with an internet search engine. This forum is incredibly poorly laided out as well. Who knows if I am even putting this question in the right place? I don't know where to find the update news on the Affinity site. For the record I am still on Win 10 and update is 2.5.7. I have never worked with Adobe Photoshop which most here seem to have learned, somehow. I did however work with sound and edit with Adobe Audition and found that I could only master slightly above the basics. That work was good enough for radio broadcast and to produce radio drama. Add to the fact that I suffer from short term memory loss and will forget everything in six months if I don't practise it enough, and you can see how hard this is for me. I wish Affinity would make a very light basic app: No layers, no masks, just pure basic editing, clone, erase, recolour, brighten, and etc. The program layout is too difficult for beginners and the terminology is like waking up in chemistry class with no study done and having to do an exam. I urge the makers of Affinity to look at an old basic editing program such as ArcSoft Photoimpression 2000 and use that as a basis for their beginner software. Obviously this old program is not powerful enough by today's standards. You cannot believe how incredibly frustrating and time consumming your programs are. Your 'how to' guides are impossible to follow, they need to be step by step with graphics otherwise you lose me. I tried one or two of your online tutor expert videos and they are incredibly boring and lack that inspiration that makes the difference between an average teacher and a great teacher. In all honesty I would not recommend anyone without a university degree (which I don't have, and could never achieve due to my memory) to even try your program suites. Is there anyway please you can develop and produce a simpler program for beginners, and stop with all your over-complicted new stuff and win me back to your products? I have had your software for over three years now and I am banging my head against a brick wall. It hurts. Quote

You put it in the section for "Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)", so if you're using one of those OSes, and asking a question, you've put it in the right place. 47 minutes ago, EoghanMag said: I don't know where to find the update news on the Affinity site. Here in the forums, the release notes for the individual "point" releases such as 2.5.7 can be found in the News and Information section, and specifically in the pinned topic Latest Affinity V2 release versions on each platform by store. For 2.5.7, the current last post in that topic has pointers to the Release Notes with as much detail as Serif has provided. For the major releases within V2, such as 2.5.7 you can find information on the Affinity Store site, at https://affinity.serif.com/en-us/whats-new/ EoghanMag and R C-R 2 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. KarinC Posted January 26 Posted January 26 If you are doing just simple things use Windows Photos in Windows 10. It will crop, adjust brightness and quite a few other simple adjustments including most of what you need. I use it regularly if I just want to crop or resize or adjust an image and don't want to wait for an application to load. If you want to do more complicated things in Affinity there are very good tutorials on how to get started. I tend to forget how to do things too if I don't do them very often. I do a search on YouTube for how to do that thing in Affinity. Quote

So the real question is: If you're looking for a very light basic app, why do you stick with Affinity? You're clearly using the wrong app for your requirements. EoghanMag Posted January 28 Author Posted January 28 walt.farrell Thank you for your reply. Also, thank you for the direction to the update notes. I see now why I originally skipped that post, and it goes back to forum layout, that post under the main heading is dated 2022. I think directly under this date should be a 'last post date', in other words who posted here last and on what date. I see that is done however to the side on this site. kaffeeundsalz Thank you for replying. It took me a long while to learn Adobe Audition, but I spent a longer frequency at it. Other distractions have kept me from using Affinity Photo as much. I think I can learn it to suit my needs eventually, but need to use a differnt learning technique, with open notes stickered to a wall for quick reference. I actually bought Affinity not for photography but for publishing a book. That book was published and yes Affinity Publisher and Photo helped greatly with that but not without mistakes on my part. Affinity was well priced and it can handle some elements that others make even hardrer to grasp. I tried a lot of other apps and programs before Affinity, and I would describe it as the easiest of the high end ones that I've seen. KarinC Thank you for your reply. Windows Photo is only average, does not always suit my needs, and usually I have to use a combination of windows programs to get basics done. Last I checked you could only find eyedropper in PowerPoint. walt.farrell 1 Quote

There are several types of eyedroppers in Affinity, called pickers. https://affinity.help/photo2/English.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_clrpicker.html https://affinity.help/photo2/English.lproj/pages/Tools/tools_stylePicker.html Quote Affinity Store (MSI/EXE): Affinity Suite (ADe, APh, APu) 2.5.7.2948 (Retail) Dell OptiPlex 7060, i5-8500 3.00 GHz, 16 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630, Dell P2417H 1920 x 1080, Windows 11 Pro, Version 24H2, Build 26100.2605.
