Publisher locks on opening a book if you open a file too early

Probably this is also present in the production version, I remember I often noted it.

When you open a rather complex book, you have to wait that everything "settles" before trying to open a chapter. If you do, almost every time it starts trying to renumber pages and there locks. You need to kill APub.

Yes, sorry. I forgot to say something important. The problem is somehow connected to the TOC. I will do some tests so that I can be more precise.

Here are two videos of the problem. If I don't open the files and wait 20-30 seconds, no problem.

When APub starts, it does some housekeeping chores for 10...20 seconds. The problem arises if I do something before it finishes. You can monitor this from the little box on top of the window.

It is absolutely repetitive; maybe that it happens only when you, like me, have big and complex files.

Exactly the same on Intel and Apple Silicon.

It's totally unrelated but for me, your file crashes when attempting to open 7KS 00.afbook...

The crash is caused by Pages 9 and 10 in the Chapter 7KS 31 Plug-in Examples.afpub but even substituting a blank spread in place of Pages 9 and 10 doesn't overcome the problem...

There was discussion in this thread about book chapters being greyed out until fully loaded, even if loading asynchronously, the idea being to prevent a chapter from being opened until fully loaded which sounds as though it would perhaps be a good idea...

I'm seeing the exact same issue with your file even after substituting 7KS 31 Plug-in Examples.afpub  with 7KS 31a Plug-in Examples.afpub (attached) which replaces Pages 9 and 10 with a blank spread to prevent the crash I'm experiencing when opening the .afbook file.
