SolihullRog Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I am using Affinity Photo 2.5.7 and want a 'straightforward' method of sharpening. I often read that I should use the Detail Refinement Tool in the Develop Persona but I can't find it. Does it really exist? Quote
Brian_J Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 Detail Refinement is a checkbox in the Details panel. https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Raw/raw_panelDetails.html Quote Windows 10 22H2, 32GB RAM | Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher 2 (MSI/EXE)

SolihullRog Posted December 24, 2024 Author Posted December 24, 2024 Thanks all. I've found it now. I realised that it was supposed to be in the Develop Persona. It's amazing that a product like this depends on a forum to discover how to access a feature that is mentioned in the write-ups. But I'm not surprised. Basic principle of software documentation. If you describe a feature, describe where to find it. Not so in Affinity. Quote

SolihullRog Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 Thankyou very much, Carl. So I'm a newbie in the product and I press the Help button. I receive the screen as in the attachment. I see a list of more than 30 topics, and a magnifying glass in to top right-hand corner. I want "sharpness" or "blur" or, after an hour's searching, even "Detail Refinement". Which of the 30+ topics will hold those clues? On my 23 inch monitor the entries are less than 2 mm. high. I struggle to read them. I need help to use the Help page! I appear to have 3 options. (1) Click a subject from the unreadable list in random sequence. But I can't see a relevant choice, (2) Click the magnifying glass. No reaction. (3) There are some arrows in the bottom corner, but the window is already full-screen, so I don't need to expand the screen. After further puzzlement I notice a small purple blur in the top LH corner. Further investigation reveals a minute cursor flashing! I click it. Wow! There's an enterable field preceded by a purple blur which might be a word!! (I still can't read it). It's a shame that the field's title is in very dark puple on a black background, and the enterable field is black on black without a border! Amazingly poor design! Well done, Carl. Your clues have led me to a solution! I should have said "If you describe a feature, describe where to find it, in terms which are obvious to a newbie". Merry Christmas! Quote

The ‘purple blur’ is actually a pair of left/right navigation arrows. The input control (grey with slightly lighter grey text in it, no purple in sight) says ‘Click Here to Search’. You may find it easier to use the online version of the Help, since you can readily adjust the text size and you could even add a user stylesheet for more extensive customization. SolihullRog Posted December 25, 2024 Author Posted December 25, 2024 Thanks for your help. The appearance of the online help shows great promise. Alfred 1 Quote
