Robert22
I'm getting a strange bug. When I use the ALT key and drag an object to duplicate it, it works fine using the LEFT ALT key with the Move tool. When I use the RIGHT ALT key it does not work, but just moves the object. In addition right after attempting to duplicate, using the RIGHT ALT key, some (maybe more) of the short cut keys no longer work (or at least the ones I tried: Undo, Redo, Cut, Paste, Duplicate). However these commands still work from the menu system. Affinity Designer 1.5.0.5 I don't know if this occurred in previous versions. Staff Chris B Posted July 8, 2016 Staff Share Posted July 8, 2016 Yes, I could. However dev believe Alt + Drag shouldn't duplicate as it's normally a job for the Ctrl button. Perhaps this is why it's breaking the other shortcuts  How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials
Robert22
Thanks Chris. Just tried it with CTRL and it works great. The reason I was using ALT was I saw it in a video awhile back, don't remember which one. Thanks again for your help, maybe ALT should be removed so it can be used for something else. Staff Chris B Posted July 11, 2016 Staff Share Posted July 11, 2016 I think it will get removed. It's ALT on the Mac so I assume that's where it has come from. Thanks for reporting this. Robert22
There is some other action / sequence of events, that is causing the shortcut keys to stop working. It's happened several times now but I don't know what's causing it. Maybe you can take a look. Mark Ingram
The right Alt is actually Alt-Gr, which is actually CTRL+ALT, which may be why the behaviour is a little odd. Alt-Gr is used for inputting foreign characters.
Robert22
Sorry I was not clear enough. The issue I'm having is that the shortcut keys stop working. This has happened several times, but I don't know why. Before when this happened, it was the Right Alt key and Drag action. Now something else is also causing them to stop working. I'm not doing anything with text at all, so that is not the problem. I'll be working for a while, use a shortcut key and none of them work, until I restart AD. Staff Chris B Posted July 15, 2016 Staff Share Posted July 15, 2016 I believe we have fixed the bug that breaks the shortcuts. This is a result of Alt Gr. Left Alt will still duplicate like the Ctrl key. How to format a bug report | Learning Resources | List of V2 FAQs | YouTube Tutorials
Robert22
Hi Chris, thanks for responding. That is what caused the problem originally. I'm no longer using those key combo and something else is also causing the shortcut keys to stop working. I just don't know what. Staff Chris B Posted July 15, 2016 Staff Share Posted July 15, 2016 Oh really? If you find out what it is please reply to this post as it's a pretty serious issue. Robert22
I tried to reproduce it and will keep at it when it occurs again. I do have a bunch of custom shortcuts, but when it happens all the shortcuts I tried, custom or standard fail. Staff Chris B Posted July 15, 2016 Staff Share Posted July 15, 2016 It could be a combination of shortcuts is causing this to happen. Alt Gr is a combination of Ctrl & Alt so I wonder if you've setup something similar, somehow. Staff Chris B Posted July 15, 2016 Staff Share Posted July 15, 2016 Can you save your keyboard shortcut preferences and send them to me in a PM? If you can recall roughly what shortcuts you use often I'll see if I can replicate it with your shortcuts on my PC. Staff Chris B Posted July 15, 2016 Staff Share Posted July 15, 2016 I've just added those to my own shortcut profile however after 30 mins of editing a personal file, everything is OK.If you go to the Preferences >Keyboard Shortcuts, on the right it says Load and Save. If you click Save and save it locally, you can send me the file which I can then load into my PC. Mark Ingram
Can you have a look in %APPDATA%\Serif\Affinity Designer\1.0 (Beta)\Workspaces\Vector\ and see if there is a Shortcuts.xml file there? If so, attach it to this post so we can take a look. Edit: Chris beat me to it :).
Robert22
Here they are. I could be wrong but I don't think it's my shortcut keys, I certainly didn't do anything exotic. Other people also had the shortcut keys turned off when they did the Right Alt drag and they did not have my shortcut key file. There is just some other process(es) that turn them off. Anyway good luck, let me know how it goes. Robert22
Chris and Mark, I found another instance that will disable the shortcut keys (all, not just my customized ones). Create 2 shapes, one overlapping the other, and select them both. If you do a boolean subtract or add, holding the Right Alt key (to create a compound object) it blows away the shortcut keys. The Left Alt key works fine. So there is that Right Alt key combination again, this time on a toolbar command, not an object (clue???). However, I'm sure this was not what caused my other reported incident.
