ygoe Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 Can I have undo and redo buttons in the toolbar, please?
Bhikkhu Pesala Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 It won't happen yet as the Mac version doesn't have them either and it's not needed. The history panel at bottom right is a much better method for multiple undos. Drag the slider . There's also an option to save the undo history with the drawing, and a setting in Preferences, Performance, to change the number of undo operations saved from the default of 1024. Bhikkhu Pesala Posted July 2, 2016 Posted July 2, 2016 The shortcut for Redo is not Ctrl Y — which is used for View mode, Outline — but Ctrl Shift Z. If you wish, you can edit shortcuts in Edit, Preferences, to match those in other Serif Windows applications. It would be useful to ship Affinity Designer with a keyboard shortcut file for DrawPlus users. The attached is work in progress, but you can extract it, and load it from the Preferences dialogue. MaryLou Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Could we maybe have an undo button added to the custom buttons? Those of us that have used it for many uears rely heavily on that button and really miss it. However, I will investigate the History panel. :) Windows 10 Home Affinity Designer 1.6.4.104 Affinity Photo 1.6.4.104
ygoe Posted July 3, 2016 Author Posted July 3, 2016 I know the keyboard shortcuts and the history panel (the slider is cool, BTW). Sometimes I'm just using the mouse only to play around and missed that button in the usual location. So I was opening the toolbar customisation dialog and looked for that, but it seems all buttons are already added so toolbar customisation is only really about removing buttons which is probably never needed. So what's the use of toolbar customisation anyway? Change button order to confuse everybody? ;-)
MaryLou Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 After trying that History thing, I won't miss the Undo at all! It lets you go all the way back to the beginning of your document! I was just playing with my new brushes and it was so easy to "erase" the screen by just sliding back the bar a bit. I do wish I could permanently delete some of the things though - that file size can get pretty big! But.. I do like it! Windows 10 Home Affinity Designer 1.6.4.104 Affinity Photo 1.6.4.104
Dave Harris Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Using Save As instead of Save will often reduce file sizes. You can clear a portion of the undo history by changing the limit in Preferences > Performance to the number you want to keep, then changing it back again.

I too would like to have an undo button on the toolbar and I'm sure it would be minimal effort to include it in the toolbar customization options. If I'm working at the top of the screen, which happens quite often, it's far more convenient to click the undo button than run the related shortcuts or go to the history sidebar. I don't usually find myself reverting a document to the initial state. Affinity is a fine product, and for the most part it meets my needs, but the absence of convenience features such as the undo button have me considering paying a lot more for another software.
