After starting AD V2.5.0, clicking on "New" ... selecting "Recent" and choosing the last file I worked on the program stalls. Startup Dialog is not reacting any more. AD can only be partially shut down by closing the main window (Right click on Taskbar and shutdown app). Parts of AD remain in the Tastmanager (background process) and need to be closed via Task Manager. Opening the file by double clicking on it works fine. Selecting it from the "Open Recent ..." in the menu works as well. Reproducable on my computer.
Cheers, Timo

I'm on Windows and obviously not using the Mac App Store 🙂
And AD is not generally crashing .... only with the described procedure.

@kylemj6977 @ciorekis Welcome to the forum!

It seems we are dealing with 3 different issues here - on thing they have in common: eventually the programm crashes ...

Maybe you can provide some more information on the system you are working on, if the error is reproducable, when exactly it happens and @kylemj6977 if it also freezes when you start a new drawing from scratch.

It does not freeze when I open a new document, but it does so when I open any previously created V2 AFPUB file.  Luckily, I could download and re-install the previous version to resume work on my projects. I'll hold off until Affinity resolves issues with this updated version before updating again.

The issue "2.5 Publisher users experiencing freezing, crashing, or text not displaying" (REF: AF-3191) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.5.2.2478".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Affinity Info Bot to notify us.

@Affinity Info Bot

Problem persists. Slight change: the dialog for "recent documents" closes now before the program decides to fade into Affinitys Nirwana ...

But I'm getting slightly upset now ...

And since I installed the Beta update my Task Manager doesn't start any more .... this is getting serious now!

Not funny!

Same here on Windows 11 but the freeze (thankfully -- and so far) only affects one document which I created just a few weeks ago. As soon as I try to move an element or change to another page, it locks up. When I go to reopen the document, I am offered the recovery file. Really annoying.

I don't get the Error window I posted earlier any more and the TaskManager issue is solved as well - wasn't related to Affinity.
Still AD crashed after main window opens with the "Recent Files" dialog open. No chance to even cancel the window

I did not install this via the microsoft store, but directly from serif (v 2.5.0 from the automatic updater) and receive a .NET application exception during the load of fonts, keeping the software from launching.   Where can I download 2.5.1 to give it a try?

In case it helps: my system is win 11 (23H2), i9-13900ks, 64G, RTX 4080 (552.44)

The exception thrown is:

Application: Photo.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: System.Runtime.InteropServices.SEHException
   at <Module>.PersonaController.LoadFontsAndPropertyCollections(PersonaController*)
   at Serif.Interop.Persona.Services.InteropService.LoadFontsAndPropertyCollections()
   at Serif.Affinity.Application+<>c__DisplayClass100_0.<OnServicesInitialised>b__1()
   at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object, Boolean)
   at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object, Boolean)
   at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object)
   at System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()

This affects all three pieces of software, Photo, Designer and Publisher.

Hi @SkunkMyrddyn and welcome to the forums.

2.5.1 is only for those who installed from the App Store. It fixed bug specific to that channel.

2.5.2 is in beta and should fix the bug with loading fonts. You can either wait for it, revert to 2.4.2 (uninstall 2.5.0 and reinstall 2.4.2), or you can download the 2.5.2 beta and use it until the updater is released.

I've just reopened a V2 file (call it Doc 3) to add new material to it and once again have the problem of the app crashing when I try to do something with any item on the page. I tried several other old files (Doc 1 and Doc 2), originally created in V1 a couple of years ago, but was getting nowhere. When I started working on Doc 3, I thought I was getting somewhere. I could change from one page to another, edit the master, edit some text, resize an image and its caption, and had started to copy and paste new text into the text frames already on the page when it crashed again. I am using V2.5.3 on a laptop with a AMD Ryzen 5 5600H processor running Windows 11. I looked for a crash report but there was nothing recorded. I'm also working on several other files without any issues. Could there be something inherited from V1?

I've been working on another document which, until this morning, was perfectly well behaved. I then started to add text frames and my earlier problem of microscopic (1.6 pt) text recurred. When I selected the text it had "No Style" and, as soon as I tried to apply the correct style, the app crashed!
