Gaps in menus - help please

Recommended Posts

Rebooted machine. Holes still in menus.

Cross-posting this.

Affinity Publisher 2.4.0. Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2, build 22631.3155

RAM at 25%.

I'm getting a bit bothered about this since rebooting hasn't made any difference!

Holes - you mean disabled menu items?

P.S. You have a Text Frame selected, so most of the items in the Table menu are inactive - they don't make sense for the Text Frame.

Yes. Have there been gaps in my menus for the last few years when the menu options don't apply and I've never noticed?

They aren't gaps as such, they're just greyed out, but they're very low contrast in your screenshot. @Pšenda has highlighted a couple of 'Evenly Distribute' options where I really have to strain to read the text.

Edit > Settings > User Interface

Check your Text Contrast slider

Apparently yes. Below an example in V1 on mac for instance:

I would have thought that the UI Contrast control would do the needful here, but the 'High' setting just makes the background darker. That's OK for the dark UI style, but for the light UI style the contrast is reduced rather than increased.

I bet that's it ... yes, reset UI Contrast to Default and all well.

Phew. Thanks. Err ... should my problem be actually possible, though???

There have been numerous comments about the UI ever since the Affinity Range appeared on the scene nearly a decade ago with the launch of Affinity Designer in October 2014. Poor contrast is particularly notable as a recurring theme.
