  1. Interesting. I think it must be that. I have been using Superscript but I'd turned it off .... must have crept back in. Thanks, something else to check in future!
  2. Sorry, I've moved on since then and completed that page. I had to copy-paste correctly-sized words from another page and paste in the text after it to get the right settings. When all is well on this dummy page the Character panel looks OK, if that's any help. Sadly I didn't check it when I was having problems. I have noticed this happening before though, and I've had to do the copy-paste thing.
  3. Affinity Publisher doesn't seem to be able to get the size right. This claims to be 14pt but the text is just the same size as this which is supposed to be 8pt. What's happening here please? The top 'Sue Hughes' changes size as you'd expect when I run up and down the sizes in the drop-down but as you see 8pt with this line is far smaller! David
  4. Am I right in thinking that I can only have drop shadows with text, where the background isn't coloured? Certainly that's the way it seems to work here (Version 2.4.2). I can add a shadow to text with the default transparent background - but if I then change to a coloured background the shadow transfers to the layer - - which is pretty annoying, and has just wasted an hour of my time! Or am I, as usual, wrong?? David
  5. Sorry, I never even noticed there was anything there in Pšenda's response. Now I take the point! Thanks, guys.
  6. I bet that's it ... yes, reset UI Contrast to Default and all well. Phew. Thanks. Err ... should my problem be actually possible, though???
  7. Yes. Have there been gaps in my menus for the last few years when the menu options don't apply and I've never noticed?
  8. Rebooted machine. Holes still in menus. Cross-posting this. Affinity Publisher 2.4.0. Windows 11 Pro, Version 23H2, build 22631.3155 RAM at 25%. I'm getting a bit bothered about this since rebooting hasn't made any difference!
  9. Rebooted machine. No change: holes still in menus.
  10. Thus - Affinity Publisher 2.4.0, Windows 11 Pro 64-bit, build 22631.3155. I didn't notice this yesterday, not that that means much. I haven't rebooted or anything but I will. David
  11. Thanks Debra and all. Since my last, I've installed the up to date graphics driver (I usually do this with Driver Booster, which takes a while, but this time it took much longer). Since then Photo has crashed just once, and failed to load a 75MB file once. This is an improvement. However, don't worry too much on my account now, because I decided to get a new, better, machine, and I'm sure it will take more than Photo to crash that! Publisher, incidentally, seems much more robust.
  12. Thanks - no problem installing drivers, and Photo opens and accepts a file. I'll keep you posted! However, I now see that my graphics card is not well regarded. Might have to do something about that...
  13. Thanks for your help. English (UK) drivers finish in 2018 - I wonder if that's why I'm being told there's nothing better available! I'm trying the US version.
