Affinity-Inspiration Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Is it possible to add Editing of Folders to the menu? The existing option allows me to locate and add folders to the list, but not remove them. The little icon on the bottom left is all there is. Locate folders, but not remove them from the list displayed. Quote iPad Mini 6. 256GB. My GoTo design platform. M2 Mac Mini. 24GB. LG 4K Monitor. + Samsung Monitor 2. Windows 10 Toshiba. The online help tells you ... https://affinity.help/photo2/English.lproj/index.html?page=pages/GetStarted/templates.html?title=Document templates Quote To remove a template folder: From the New Document dialog, with Templates selected, select a folder, then click Remove template folder. The Remove template folder option won't be visible if the folder is a sub-folder of the top level folder that was added and therefore cannot be removed. It is very hard to see in the Dark UI but if you look closely to the far right of the Add Template Folder icon there is another icon that looks like a dash. Hover the pointer over it & it will pop up a tooltip identifying as the "Remove template folder" button. It is easier to see in the Light UI but given the developers apparent obsession with low contrast icons & buttons you pretty much have to already know its there in the Dark UI to find it. Thanks for pointing that out. I’d never have found it! Quote iPad Mini 6. 256GB. My GoTo design platform. M2 Mac Mini. 24GB. LG 4K Monitor. + Samsung Monitor 2. Windows 10 Toshiba. Sid J Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 Just something to add here. I accidentally added a template folder that contained other non affinity items. So I wanted to remove the link to the folder. When hovering over the minus icon I am prompted with "Remove template folder". The next dialogue offers Cancel or Delete as options. This implies that the folder will be deleted, not a good option. FYI if you select Delete, the link to the folder is removed, the folder and its contents are not deleted. A better choice of wording IMO would be "Cancel or Remove". Old Bruce, R C-R and markw 3 Quote
Old Bruce Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 When I first came across this I was fortunate in that I had only just made the folder so I wasn't worried about having it deleted from the Mac OS Finder. I "Deleted" it and checked in the Finder if it was still there, which it was. I wholeheartedly support this little change in wording. Dan C Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Thanks for your feedback @Sid J! Just to confirm, I have logged the following with our development team: For Windows - The 'Add Folder' and 'Remove Folder' icons do not match macOS. I have suggested that an icon showing a Folder with a plus symbol and a Folder with a minus symbol for 'Add'/'Remove' template folders respectively would be best. The hover tooltip on the Bin icon shows 'Remove Folder'. I have suggested this should match macOS's 'Remove Template Folder' wording. When removing a template folder, no confirmation dialog is shown. I have suggested that a confirm dialog should be shown, matching the behaviour on macOS - including the below suggested improvement to the macOS button wording. For macOS - The 'Add Folder' and 'Remove Folder' icons do not match Windows. I have suggested that both OS's should use the same icons, with the above recommendation of a 'Folder +/-' icon used, respectively. When removing a template folder, the confirmation dialog button uses the incorrect wording. I have suggested that the confirmation dialog shown uses 'Remove' correctly in the wording, but 'Delete' incorrectly for the button itself. This should be 'Remove' consistently throughout. I hope this helps Oufti 1 Quote
Sid J Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 Thanks @Dan C very helpful. I think the new wording will scare less people. Quote
