Hi Guys, can I make a suggestion.

More and more photos are now appearing with the ext AVIF, but this does not work with the Affinity suite of programs, the only way I have got round this is to open the pictures in  Gimp, and export as PNG. Feel if possible that this ext really needs to be able to open in our suite, as the popularity of this ext is really growing now.

This has been requested in the past. We have a Feedback and Suggestions forum, where you can post your support for this. A simple search would reveal this, instead of starting a new post.

You contradict yourself, Wim. the OP actually asks for something new, not for a fix.

I do not currently have a copy of Affinity Photo (I have photoshop but was thinking of switching) so if someone could test this, that'd be awesome.

There is a terrific FREE photoshop plugin here that lets photoshop export in AVIF.  If anyone can try it in Affinity at see if it works, that'd be really good to know.

Plugin (and info):  https://avif.io/blog/tutorials/photoshop/

The plugin link is at the bottom of the article.   In photoshop, the plugin enables AVIF as a "Save As" option.

The difference vs JPEG is just unbelievable.   The only popular browser that seems to have a problem with AVIF is versions of Safari that are more than a year or so old (which is a LOT of phones).   Fortunately, IOS people get Safari updated when they update their OS, so that should improve.

According to the "can I use this" site, other than webp (which sucks), it's the only modern image format with broad browser support.

That kind of plugin is not supported in Photo. It only supports plugins for editing image layer content.

Thanks for the info!  Though ... a bummer.   I've been hoping Affinity could replace photoshop, but two features I use all the time are AVIF export and automatic perspective & lens correction in camera raw (for real estate photos for the web).  I could get the DXO plugin to get auto perspective but ... alas no AVIF.  Plus recently I've been using AI Denoise in camera raw and it is just awesome (though requires a potent GPU).  So I guess I'm Adobe bound for a while longer.   I could buy the Topaz AI Denoise plugin in their AI suite (also amazing!), but that's another $200... so affinity+ needed plugins is starting to cost 4 years of Photoshop/lightroom.     I know Affinity has nice tools for manual perspective correction.  That's what I used to use in photoshop, but now I'm addicted to that one button and done thing.
