I already own V1; will upgrading to V2 via the 25% upgrade offer allow me to continue using V1 when needed or would I have to buy the full V2 license instead?

Hello and welcome to the forums.

You can install and using V1 and V2 side by side. And the 25% upgrade offer for the universal licence is the full V2!

It should be noted, however, that documents created with the V2 programs are not backward compatible!

Yes, you can use both if you also purchase v2.

BUT if you create documents in v2 and use your right of withdrawal, they cannot be opened in v1 at all or saved in v1 format.

In that scenario, you will have to do various copy-paste tricks between v1 and v2 or export to PDF.

Just so you know. 🙂

In that scenario it is good that you do have a copy of v1 because otherwise you wouldn't be able to send file your clients at all.

v1 is not for sale anymore so keep it safe!

If you have already purchased v1 you can always re-download it from the store where you bought it, so there is no problem if you don’t currently have a copy. 😉

Obviously yes, but I'm illustrating the scenario where a person gets a client that has v1. If you as a company do not have v1 yourself already, there is no way to export to this client in an older Affinity format, as Affinity cannot export to older versions of its own format.

It's a classic business scenario that I think people should be aware of.

It was just that you said “keep it safe”, so I assumed you were saying that there would be a problem if someone hadn’t kept their original copy of v1. Sorry for my misunderstanding!

Ah, we just misunderstood each other. It happens! No harm done! 🙂

I think the question is centered around legal use of V2, not technical.
I have the same question.
Do we have the "right" to use V1 alongside V2 if we choose the upgrade-to-V2-from-V1 offer? This would result in having two copies of Affinity, one V1 and one V2, which is good deal if allowed.
And since the offer states: "Upgrade discount for V1 users", the question remains because, usually, when you upgrade to a new version, you only have one copy at the end, here your V1 would transform into a V2 and that's it. Only one copy at the end.

It would be nice if an Affinity representative could give a clear cut answer.
Thank you.

To my understanding, the upgrade to V2 is only at lower cost, but otherwise a full new V2 license, leaving your V1 license valid. There is nothing in the license terms removing the v1 license.
