When you apply a brushstroke to an object it’s impossible to find the corresponding brush in the brush panel . This is soo annoying when you can’t remember which brush you used , this happens when you have hundreds of brushes . This should be so that when you select an object and you go to brush panel the applied brush would be highlighted in the corresponding category. Also when exporting a document the used brushes have to go with the document

Affinity Designer on iPad already shows which brush was used per vector layer, but it requires one more click:

  • select the layer in layer stack
  •  Click again on the move tool on the left side in tools panel

I don’t know if this is by design or a bug. It seems the last used brush stays active even if you select another layer where a different brush was used, but only the tool re-selection finally reveals the layers brush.

As you can see this doesn’t work .

it seems you need to switch to move tool specifically, as i showed in my video.

I have to correct myself. This did work only for pencil tool, not for vector brush tool.

It is because this are in fact not brushes, but brush presets. If you use a brush and change it's settings, the highlighting of the brush preset will disappear. It is logical behavior, because it is no longer the preset you chose. But I agree, it's annoying and that should be fixed in the future. Maybe at least in form of a tool history. This topic has been discussed here on the forum many times in the past.

These are brushes and not presets

OK, Sorry, it seems that I confused it with AfPhoto. In AfPhoto, if you change the settings of a brush - even if you only click e.G. the brush size or the flow function in the context bar - the highlighting of the brush/brush preset disappears - because it is no longer the initial brush preset. Brushes and Brush Presets are not clearly separated from each other in Photo - there is no separate access to brushes and brush presets. But in Photo v2 each layer has a memory function that remembers what brushes were used - in one session (if you reopen the document, even this memory will be lost).

Designer doesn't seem to have such a memory function anyway, but at least the brush/preset keeps being highlighted if you change the brush size. Could be a case for the "Feedback & Suggestions" section. Would of course be a helpful function.

No, they are Brush presets, in Affinity V1 and 2.0. And when you change any characteristics, the highlighting disappears because you are no longer using that preset with all its characteristics.

In 2.1 (currently available for beta testing), the highlight is retained, but changed to indicate that you are no longer using that exact preset. Note that for the Designer Persona, once you switch to a different brush or (possibly) a different tool, you won't be able to find the prior brush any more.
