jimh12345 Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 I don't see a way to save Export settings. After I edit a photo, I always export a small version for the web. My dimensions for this are always the same (1600 on long side). And with AP this becomes one of those irritating "every... single... time..." things. I'm still new to AP - is there a way, within its labyrinthine forest of capabilities, to set up some sort of templates for common exports? Quote
Old Bruce Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Use Photo's Export Persona. Set up a Slice with the format you want. In this case it is 1600w or 1600h for the dimensions and either PNG or JPEG (or both). Then use the "hamburger" menu to make an export setup preset. Name these two presets something descriptive like 1600 Portrait and 1600 Landscape. and you'll be able to choose it in the Export Preset in the Slices panel. jimh12345 Posted February 13, 2023 Author Posted February 13, 2023 Thanks OB. "Export Persona" seems to be where I should be looking, and I got this all to work. Gven the number of clicks required to choose and use an Export Preset, it may be easier to just keep pounding in the numbers as I have been. But I'll no doubt find other uses for Export Persona and presets. Quote

jimh12345 Posted February 15, 2023 Author Posted February 15, 2023 I counted 5 clicks plus a scroll-down, but you're right it's not too terrible. What I don't get is the "path". In the export preset I've entered the path where I want exports to go. But it isn't used; when I click the "export" icon, output defaults t o the source image folder, not the path I entered. Can't I set an export path? Quote
Staff Lee D Posted February 28, 2023 Staff Posted February 28, 2023 The Path section defines the folder name, this is only used for when JSON files are also going to be written to see here for some more information. Quote
jimh12345 Posted February 28, 2023 Author Posted February 28, 2023 Well that's disappointing. 😡 Quote

Not necessarily needing the JSON builder. I can set a path and the folder I choose to save the exported file(s) into will create those paths with folders (if necessary) and the files will be within them. I created a preset. I define a path where I want exports to go. I see that path: I click the little "export" icon to the right of the file name. And up pops File Explorer, asking me where I want the export to go, and defaulting to the folder I last used (the one from which I opened the file). The path I entered in Export Persona is ignored. It doesn't seem to be used for anything. Quote

jimh12345 Posted March 1, 2023 Author Posted March 1, 2023 I don't get it at all. If I click on the path, I see this dialog: If I mouse over it, a tooltip says its "a common path for items exported from this slice". But it's ignored when I actually export. Quote
Old Bruce Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 I choose the basic folder I want to export to then I add in the names of folders that exist or that I wanted to be created. If I choose to export to the Desktop then these will be made Create this folder and the two different named ones inside it. If there is already a Create this folder on the desktop then just the two different new folders will be created inside that one. I chose a folder on my external hard drive. The folder Create this folder was made then the folders A different Folder and A different Place were made. The files were placed there. I expect your path will be ignored because it is invalid for a Windows absolute path - it should have a colon after the drive letter, like "C:" Quote

So, if the user wants to export to "C:\Users\lando\OneDrive\FB" They would specify Users\lando\OneDrive\FB for the path component and on the export screen just navigate to the root of the "C:" drive and select that for the output folder R C-R, Old Bruce and lepr 1 2 Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. I just tried it, no matter what I put in that field, AP ignores it and creates the file in whatever folder I pick with File Explorer. I'm giving up on Export Persona, it is at minimum a huge overkill for just exporting JPGs of processed photos. Photographers don't need the "slice" stuff, that's for "designers". Affinity should improve File/Export to fit photographers' workflows, and model it on Capture One's excellent Export. Quote
jimh12345 Posted March 1, 2023 Author Posted March 1, 2023 Haven't used AP macros, but hey, here's a repetitious task that seems like a natural. So I enabled the Macro panel, clicked "start recording", clicked File/Export.... and got a popup saying "can't record Export Item". Well, that sure ended quickly. Quote
