Can't load some brushes (.abr) in Affinity Designer

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I loaded some brushes on Affinity, it works. Nevertheless, I have some brushes that don't load in the app. It just shows a message saying it's downloading and then, nothing. I tried to load them directly into the app, or from the files folder just clicking on open in Affinity. Nothing works. I tried to divide the brushes in two sections, as I thought the file was too big. Nothing works.
I don't know what to do.
I don't think I'm allowed to put the file here, in public, because I paid for it on a site from a particular.
Thank you

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

I'm a bit confused by your description.

You mention .abr brushes, which are Photoshop brush packs. Some .abr files are (for the most part) usable in the Affinity applications, but not all. But the confusing aspect of your description is this:

The Affinity applications do not download brushes, except via the Account dialog. And with the Account dialog you would not be downloading .abr files. For brushes from the Affinity Store you would be using Affinity brush files, .afbrushes rather than .abr.

So, what is saying it's downloading, and what are you downloading, and from where?

Hi,

Sorry for my message a bit confusing.

My .abr brushes are from Photoshop. I wanted them on Affinity on my iPad.

When I open the brushes menu, and tap on import brushes, I select my .abr file (from my files app on iPad). Then a message appears saying "Downloading" (as my app is in French, in reality it's "Téléchargement"), Then nothing. With my other .abr brushes, after the message "Downloading", there was a message saying like 4 brushes were imported. And I could use them. For this specific file, this message doesn't appear and my brushes don't appear.

Thank you.

UPDATE: I tried to drop the file into affinity designer and affinity photo on Mac OS. It says "Unknown brush format", Impossible to load the file "......."

It's an abr file and all my other files were imported perfectly.

Can you give us the link to those brushes on that website so we can see what they say about them

Thanks, not much information re the bruses on that page

I assume you have V2, did you have V1 previously or have access to Photoshop to test the brush pack on?

I have V2

I never used V1 but I used this brush pack multiple times on photoshop. It works perfectly. I tried them again today on photoshop and they still work

I also tried to export them from Photoshop (in another .abr) and they still can’t get imported on Affinity

That's was what I was going to suggest

Affinity are back to work sometime this week. I suggest you send them the brush pack privately so they can test them, since you can't upload them here

Hi,

I sent an email to affinity (affinity@serif.com) and I was wondering if I sent to the right email address because I didn't receive any email back. I was wondering that maybe I should send the brush pack to administrators of the forum ? I don't know, I'm new to affinity and all these features.

Our sincerest apologies for the delayed response - both here and to your email, we are exceptionally busy following our V2 launch and our team are working hard to respond to all users ASAP. Many thanks for your continued patience and understanding.

I can confirm that I have your email and brushes file, and I'm seeing the same behaviour in being unable to import these, both to V1 & V2 Affinity apps currently.

I will be further testing these files internally and will respond to your email shortly with any additional information I have regarding these brushes.

I hope this helps :)

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

If you're importing .ABR brushes into Affinity Designer, these will be imported into the Pixel Persona - so please check the Brushes Studio here for your imported brushes.

If you're still having trouble, please create a new thread with a copy of the .ABR brush file you're importing and our team can investigate further :)

I also am having issue with importing brushes. It states it does import, but they do NOT show up in any lists.

I sent them an e-mail with the .ABR file and they told me they tried and some brushes just can't be imported. However, they're still working on it for the further updates.

I just tried loading some brushes and they did not show up. Tried the different personnas (should have shown up under Pixel Persona) and NOTHING was showing - including other brushes I've loaded in the past. I came here searching and couldn't find answer. I RESET both personas and then tried again - no luck. I closed out completely, came back in, switched to Pixel Persona and there were the brushes I loaded - in fact multiple sets because I had tried to load multiple times. I'm not sure what was going on but they are visible now and I'm happy - albeit frustrated and confused and wish I understood WHAT was happening. Now I just have to figure out how to delete the multiple sets. Good luck all!

Try right-clicking on a set, and you should have a Delete option, if I remember correctly.
