Seems to be a local issue since we both use macOS 10.14.6. – To me this test.svg now shows content icons in both list views: Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1

PixelPest
Couldn't you just upload a simple SVG exported from Affinity Designer (maybe incl the AD file accordingly) which doesn't preview on your system for us to check?

Old Bruce
I first exported using the first preset and an SVG file with preview was made. The SVG you included is not showing a preview. This is on Mac OS 10.12.6. I have to question why I would use SVG for a file with no vector graphics at all in it. In my opinion this is an odd choice for exporting what is only pixel data. thomaso
No preview in the icon to me with Paolo's AfDes.svg. And strange, now I don't even get a content icon for v_kyr's svg either, though it did show up 2 hours ago in small List View. v_kyr
Well the whole can have a bunch of different reasons, like older caches, different Quicklook & Thumbnailing frameworks on different MacOS versions, some app assciated custom icons for SVGs, Dropbox syncing issues, external storage devices ... etc. Quick Look (wikipedia) How to Clear Quick Look Cache in Mac OS Mac OS X QuickLook Thumbcache Parser Quick Look showing only thumbnails for most images Q: Thumbnails and Quicklook not showing up (only of files opened by Preview app) View thumbnail cache in OS X Create custom icons for files or folders on Mac Previews or Thumbnail Images for macOS 10.14 or Earlier (mostly depricated & outdated) QuickLook Thumbnailing What’s New in File Management and Quick Look (WWDC 2019) ... and so on ... I see the same thing if the Finder window is set to show icon previews & that window is in gallery view. In Icon view, I only see the top red stoked rectangle; in Column view, the entire file is shown in the preview in the last pane. I am running Catalina on my Mac.
