rfq_krniawan Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Hello. I think i just found a bug in the latest affinity designer (1.10.5), that the transparency tool is unable to use for picture file like png, jpg, jpeg, etc. This thing is so annoying cuz before i installed the latest affinity designer, i still can do that. Please help me with this. Thank you. Quote
Komatös Posted June 9, 2022 Posted June 9, 2022 Hello @rfq_krniawanand welcome to the forums. What do you want to achieve? Remove the background and thus cut out the person? You don't do that with the transparency tool. iconoclast Posted June 9, 2022 Posted June 9, 2022 Hi rfq_krniawan! As it seems it doesn't work with rasterized images ("Pixel"), only with embedded ("Image"). I'm not sure if this is intended behavior. So, is your image rasterized? Quote

From the help file: "The Transparency Tool allows you to apply and edit transparency gradients to vector and text objects." (You can also use it on an image layer, which is, effectively, a vector object. Which is probably why you've been able to use it in the past.) You can get a similar effect on pixel layers by using a mask. However, as Komatos says, it doesn't look like this is the right tool to use for what you are trying to do. If you could tell us what you want to achieve, we might be able to give more help. The interface can be misleading with a cursor indicating the ability to create a transparency gradient with this tool on a pixel layer. In particular since the cursor changes interactively it feels some action would be possible. (... even though the cursor switch is actually caused by snapping only) . The confusion could be reduced if the Transparency Tool would not display its default cursor if hovering over any selected object (+ hiding the object's bounding box handles, too) but would show instead a cursor which makes more clear if the desired action is not possible, for instance . Good point, too. – Instead requesting an additional cursor informing me about inconsistency, I would be happy already if it would work consistent. To avoid unintentional stretching I use the available app preference to scale in ratio by default (and need shift for stretching). Works perfect – unless I have more than 1 object selected: Then I have to switch my mind and need shift to avoid stretching. Quite weird "by design", as if the concept tries to annoy users in purpose. Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
