Patrick Bell Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 I have opened a photo in Photo and duplicated the background layer. I want to "flip" a jetty to point right instead of left. I have the top layer only selected and the bottom one locked . Document -> flip horizontal flips BOTH layers. How do I "unlink" them. Quote
David in Яuislip Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Try Arrange/Flip horizontal Quote Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/10
Patrick Bell Posted November 12, 2021 Author Posted November 12, 2021 its greyed out. ftm if I crop an upper layer, the underlying one(s) are also cropped. Why are they linked? Quote
GarryP Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 It might help us a lot if we can see what you can see. A full-screen screenshot, with the Layers Panel visible and showing the ‘suspect layer’ selected, may be very useful. Quote

Make sure you have the layer selected in the Layers panel, it's not locked, and you have the Move Tool selected Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. Patrick Bell Posted November 12, 2021 Author Posted November 12, 2021 It does the same if I use arrange - flip Quote

GarryP Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Looking at the Layers Panel thumbnails, it looks like the top layer is different to the bottom layer, to me, so I don’t understand what the problem is. Quote

Patrick Bell Posted November 12, 2021 Author Posted November 12, 2021 Here is the same layer after arrange - flip and also the base layer with child layer not selected - same fwiw Quote
Patrick Bell Posted November 12, 2021 Author Posted November 12, 2021 Yep, the bottom layer still flips when I flip the top layer. So NOT FIXED Quote
GarryP Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 I really don’t see what the problems is. Your earlier screenshot showed two differently-oriented images, which is what it sounded like you wanted to do, and your next two screenshots seem to show the same thing as each other so I don’t know what you are trying to show us. Is there something I’m not seeing? Quote
RichardMH Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 It works fine for me. Flipping the document does it for the document, i.e. all layers. Using the Move Tool and arrange just does the active layer. Not sure what you are doing. If I have both layers selected they both flip with the Move Tool, even the locked one. Maybe there is a problem there. Quote

It shows the original Background layer (which is selected but locked) and a copy of that layer which is unselected and hidden.
