How to Add Text Shapes?

Recommended Posts

I'm still trying to work out the mechanics/logic of Affinity Suite.

I'm creating a poster in Affinity Photo, and I want to do a bit more with my text. I'm also moving from PC to Mac and for the life of me I cannot get the pen/node tools to do what they're supposed to with text.

Also, I want to add shape to text rather than just have the letters climbing up whatever lines or shape tool I add the text to.

I'm horrible at wording literally anything, so I hope you can understand my question.

What specifically is it that you want to do with text? For most text-related things you would use one of the text tools (Frame Text or Artistic Text) but if you want to do something to the text using the Pen or Node tools, you would first have to convert the text to shapes.

I've recently started working with Affinity Designer and I'm also struggling to combine text to shapes. I know how to place text in a path, but I would also like to know how to form the text in the actual shape. So instead of the text following the path of a circle, how do I shape the text in an actual circle as in the image below?

Thanks in advance!

I believe there are functions in Photo that would help give that appearance (though possibly with rasterized, not editable text), but not in Designer.

There aren't any vector based envelope distortion/warp features in Affinity Designer, you would have to use as a workaround other tools like Illustrator, CorelDraw, Inkscape, VectorStyler ... etc. which do support such vector distortions/warpings.

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.6 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.6 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.6 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2 apps still not installed and thus momentary not in use under MacOS

In addition to the others' replies, I'd like to add that it's very, very unlikely, that the example you've shown is done by some kind of (automatic) warping. It's an illustration of a font, which might not even have had an actual font as a base. To me, that looks like manually (e. g. manually tracing an—analog or digital—sketch) done as you won't get such a perfect result with warping only.

Thank you all for clearing that up!

I am totally new to grapic designing and I saw a short tutorial of text warping in Illustrator. I wondered if that was possible in Affinity as well, so I grabbed an image of the internet that looked like it to quickly illustrate what I ment. I obviously still have a lot to learn and I'm definitely going to try to do it manually. Thanks!
